Overview

Delve deep into the world of Japan’s tastiest rice-based spirit during this insider’s guided tour and tasting at a sake brewery. Get exclusive access inside the largest sake producer in Fushimi, a sake-rich region home to 36 other breweries. Sample dry, fruity, and sweet blends and learn about time-honored brewing techniques passed down over generations. You’ll even taste a sake brew that isn’t found outside of Japan.

What to Expect

Meet your guide at Fushimi Kan and set off on your three hour tour exploring the Fushimi District of Kyoto, one of Japan’s most famous sake producing areas, and home to over 30 breweries.

  • Insider Sake Brewery Tour

You’ll take a short walk to visit Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum the largest sake brewery in Fushimi, where you’ll deepen your knowledge of sake and witness traditional brewing processes which have been passed down from generation to generation.

At the end of your brewery tour you’ll have the chance to taste a few of the flavours produced there, and friendly staff from the brewery will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. After finishing up with your first sampling, you’ll move on to the full tasting session.

  • Sake Tasting with an Expert

You’ll get to try flavours of sake you may never have experienced before – as we’ll introduce you to bottles which have never been exported. Your expert guide will explain the differences in taste – dry, fruity, sweet – and how each of these are produced.

  • Food Pairing

You’ll also be served various otsumami – Japanese snacks which traditionally accompany alcohol – so you can see which types of food and flavour best accompany the different sake types.

Tasting and food pairing sessions last from one hour to one hour and 30 minutes, but you are more than welcome to stay on at the venue to continue your sake education as you please. Alternatively, our guide will be on hand to recommend bars and restaurants in the local area.
