Overview

Food makes the perfect introduction to any city—especially Penang. Slurp, sip, and snack as you discover the highlights of the city’s historic center, Georgetown, on a small-group foodie walking tour with a guide. Enjoy the sorts of insights you can only get from a local as you visit vendors and hawkers, and taste the fare of the generations of migrants who have made the island their home.

What to Expect
Discover the humble beginnings of George Town, as we meet and begin the hop from the "Little India" district. We travel backwards in time through colonization and the rise of Penang as a bustling port. We will peek briefly into how things came to be as they are, and why that is important.

Each step through the city streets also serves as a step through the story of it's people. We'll explore "harmony street" and its various places of worship, tracing a line back to how migrants from very different parts of the world made Penang their home. We'll uncover some secrets, and discover some truths, as we make our way from Harmony Street to our first meal.

We will circle the streets and side streets of the Core Heritage Zone and beyond, savoring dishes and stories as we visit vendors and hawkers and peer through different lenses and paths that have led to the present. Finally, we savor all we have learned from our exploration, as we relax to the final dessert of the evening.

By the end of the hop, we want you to feel like you aren't just visiting a city, but getting to know and old and storied friend called George Town. One that makes delicious, delicious food.

Knowledgeable and genuine guide

I took the dinner hop with Jeremy and he was really knowledgeable and down to earth. There was no concrete itinerary with rehearsed speeches - it was flexible and we went to places that excited both of us, often on the spur of the moment....More
