We hired Huseyin who was extremely professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He was on time and communicated directly with us when we arrived at the port. We were running a bit behind because we were traveling with our 18 month old but he waited patiently and adjusted our itinerary based on the crowds and the time. Our first stop was a Populer, a lrather jacket factory where we were received with a fashion show (which I'll admit was very fun). The prices and quality of these knock offs was dubious. Next we went to Ephesus and the house of the Virgin Mary. Huseyin was not only our guide but our babysitter and photographer! He helped carry the stroller in the difficult areas to maneuver and he even helped stay with our 18 month old so we could walk thru the house of the Virgin Mary (does not allow strollers) or the theater. Huseyin and his driver showed us the real meaning of Turkish hospitality. My wife and I are very grateful for all of his help during our cruiseship stop at Kudasasi. We did the tour in Spanish but he speaks English as well. I can not recommend Huseyin enough.

Overall a great half day tour! Our guide was very nice, professional and knowledgeable and was waiting for us when we got off the ship. The van had great air conditioning (valuable on an extremely hot day!) and was very comfortable. We took a private tour and loved that we could customize the stops and how long we spent at each stop. Our guide also showed us where we could stop for washrooms, and later to buy water and then ice cream. The entrance fees were paid in advance which minimized the line ups - although everyone had to line up for the Virgin Mary’s house as it was quite busy the day we were there. Would definitely recommend!

I was very glad me and my wife invested in paying for this smaller tour. As I looked at the coaches of people going to these attractions I was grateful we only had 6 people on our tour (max 10) so we could hear all the interesting facts about the things we were visiting. The tour guide himself was really lovely and detailed and showed real passion for what he was talking about. Not sure if they change the guides, regardless it was a great tour.

Collected at Cruise terminal by tour guide Mrs Arzu, she was very knowledgeable in the area and Turkish culture in general.
Excellent very comfortable air conditioned mini bus that easily accommodated the party of 6.
Ephesus tour was taken at a very good pace with plenty of time to take it all in and Mrs Arzu readily answered any questions we had on the history of the place etc.
We were taken to a family owned pottery/ceramics village factory not far from Ephesus and were treated to the making of the beautiful goods...with no 'hard sell', it was a pleasant experience.
I would highly recommend this company without hesitation... well worth it!

Group Tour : Kusadasi – Ephesus – Terrace Houses - House of Virgin Mary- Artemis Temple
At 7.30 am our captain told us that we would be late because of strong winds. I called the tour company on WhatsApp an d they told me that they would wait.
They had a sign at the exit of the cruise terminal and they introduced themselves very politely.
There were two guides, one learning and one very expert. His name is Egre (I hope I spelled it right). Egre is extremely knowledgeable and I heard some information that I learned in high school but never revisited. i was very impressed by the level of knowledge and also by the presentation.
We drove 20 minutes towards the Ephesus area.
First however, we stopped at the Huse of Virgin Mary where we had a bathroom stop.
The House of Virgin Mary is located on the Aladag Mountains eight kilometres away from Ephesus.
We had been here in 2010 ad it was good to visit the place again.
We walked along marble streets lined with wonderful public buildings, among them the the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and The Grand Theater.
My wife visited Terrace Houses in Ephesus but I declined since I could not walk down steep stairs. The guide was very clear in what difficulty to expect and I made the right decision based on his information.
At the end we visited the Agora, the market.
After this visit we went to a pottery store that has been in business for over 600 years from the same family and we bought three pieces. Very good. Other tours went to a leather store and bought some clothes there.
We then stopped at Artemission Temple to take some photos, here used to be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world
Our last stop was at a bakery in the Kusadasi town center and then we walked to the port.
The ship left on time at 5 pm.
We were six people in the group ad the van was a luxurious Mercedes.

Yavuz was kind, patient, knowledgeable and thorough. He guided us through Ephesus, the Temple of Artemis and attempted House of the Virgin Mary but the queue was too long for us to wait due to religious holiday. Yavuz took us to a nice lunch spot and answered all of our questions throughout the day. He was respectful of our needs (shopping, dining, allergies, bathroom breaks, religions, handicaps, shade/heat etc), took our photos and made good use of our time together while ensuring we got back to port timely. Highly recommend this tour!

I am delighted to provide my highest endorsement of Curio Travel and our guide, Ozge. I went on a Mini Group Tour to the House of Virgin Mary, Ephesus, and the Artemis Temple. Since it was the end of the season (mid-November), there were only three of us. We had an incredible day.
It felt like a custom, private tour. Ozge laid out the day but she offered to move things around to suit our preferences. At Ephesus, there was a separate area that required another ticket. Even though it wasn’t included in our tour, she gave us the option to go, which we declined.
Ozge knew the sites well and provided detailed background. She connected the dots between the sites and gave commentary that showed her understanding of history, mythology, religious import, and the significance of this part of the world.
At each location, we were also given time to explore on our own.
She was patient and gracious and answered every question. We encountered some very rude tour guides and equally rude tourists who were loud, railroaded our small group, and acted as if we weren’t there. Ozge handled the situations with grace, asserting our space and standing up for us.
When she saw I didn’t have an umbrella, she offered me hers.
Since we were a curious group, our tour lasted longer than expected. We never felt rushed, even when we were buying souvenirs.
We had lovely conversations in our small van. What a gift she gave us! We felt like very welcome and appreciated visitors. I felt an open-hearted thread between our countries. I could tell that Ozge is very proud of and loves her Turkey. It made me want to return for a longer visit (and I will contact her!).
I also want to thank Fevzi who owns this tour company. She helped me resolve an issue that I had (unrelated to the tourist sites).
This company operates with integrity. You can trust your precious vacation time with them.

Our tour guide, Devrim, was amazing. Really knowledgeable and really entertaining! The AC van was comfortable and necessary in the extreme heat. The Virgin House of Mary was a nice site and it was good that we didn’t have to wait long, otherwise it wouldn’t have been worth the stop. Ephesus was expansive and it was cool to see, but the extreme heat without much shade or food/drink or bathrooms made it a less pleasant experience. The museum was really cool. The pottery house was a nice stop, but it felt a little like you should buy something after they put on a show and offer you a drink. The House of Artemis was a quick stop that wasn’t much to see but at least you could say you’ve done it.
All that said, I recommend the tour, but count on it being more like 6-7 hours if your group likes to meander and shop. Apparently some groups can zip through Ephesus in 20 mins, in which case the tour would be much shorter.
Good luck and enjoy!

Great tour for our family of 17 as part of a 3.5 hour excursion from our cruise. We went to the Virgin Mary house and Ephesus with our guide Mr. Melih. He was very knowledgeable and approachable providing great context and insight to the sites we visited. At the end he gave us an option to see local crafts and we chose pottery/ceramics where we went and observed a master ceramic maker and tour the shop.
Would recommend this tour, especially for those on tight cruiseship schedules stopping at Kusadasi and wanting to experience the local craft scene.

The perfect way to see Ephesus. We only had 4 people on our tour so our guide Arzu was able to give a very personalized tour. When we were in Ephesus we had a chance to visit the Terrace homes. Highly recommend seeing these homes, they are so beautiful and give you a special glimpse into the lives of the ancient Ephesians.
After Ephesus we did a little shopping in the market just outside the gates. Then we headed to a ceramic shop to see a live demonstration. The family that makes the ceramics and runs the shop are just lovely and welcoming. Beautiful gifts to bring home for your loved ones.
Then we went to Mary’s house. The line was long but it is worth the wait. A nice quiet and sacred place to take a moment to reflect and reset. Leaving a prayer in the wall is the perfect way to end your day no matter your religious affiliation.
Our guide Arzu was born and raised in Kusadasi and was brilliant. She knew all the historical facts and could answer questions about current events. She was thoughtful & accommodating. You could tell that she loves being a guide.

Will we have a time to eat lunch in the middle of the tour? Thanks!
Written July 22, 2022
We stopped for coffee before the tour and I would say no about stopping in the middle of the tour.
It didn't seem possible for what we had as stops on our tour.
Our tour guide dropped us off close to the port at the end where there was a ton of shopping and restaurants. We had plenty of time to sit and eat and walk around and shop.

1. One place says maximum number of 10 people and another place says maximum of 16 people. Which is correct?
2. Can the tour stops be altered? We are not interested in Mary's house but in the Basilica of St. John.
Thanks.
