About
During the mid 18th century, with the Mughals at Delhi in decline, Lucknow gained prominence as the brightest star on the Indian cultural firmament – its rise fueled by the immense wealth of the Avadh and the matching extravagance of its Nawabs! This walk takes you through some of Old Lucknow’s most stupendous buildings, reveling in the stories of their makers. A short Tonga ride (horse-drawn carriage) will take you into the heart of this epicenter of culture. We explore across its bustling medieval markets, tasting sumptuous delicacies of its refined cuisine and interact with the carriers of the city’s suave mannerisms, whose friendly vibes will make you fall in love with this romantic city.

Transports you to a different Lucknow!
Dec 2020
We were looking for something other than familiar stores and restaurants that would help us connect with the city better. Samir ji did exactly that with his artful storytelling.

We were with him for over 3 hours and yet did not get bored even for a second. We did a walk of the Residency and he breathed life into our imagination about the mutiny. in the end, we had the best history immersion as he gave us the chronological chain of events that led to the city and its present culture.

Thanks to Roobaroo Walks for connecting us with a stellar storyteller!

Reliving history
Dec 2020
Samir Kher was our daastan-goh during our visit .His story telling with maps ,paintings and sketches made our trip memorable. The food trail through old city was delicious . The visit to residency and his narration of events of first war of Independence was riveting. I could actually visualize the events unfolding in my mind. The food served for lunch and dinner at old havelis during the trip was authentic Lucknow food and delicious. Worth every rupee we paid for.

A very informative virtual tour of old Lucknow
Oct 2020
I completed a virtual tour today (using Zoom) of Lucknow old city with Roobaroo walks. It was of 1.5 hours, along with a few simple quizzes, and they stayed online for an extra half hour to answer everyone's questions.

I found it quite informative and interesting, it covered mainly the history and architecture. It focused on the Chowk area, the oldest part of Lucknow, a few palaces by the nawabs of Lucknow, the British residency and Bada Imambara and Rumi Darwaza gate.

Even though it was a virtual tour, the organizers managed to fit even more useful information than a real tour, by adding google maps to show how the city expanded, historical paintings of old Lucknow, quotes from European visitors, rise of British power etc.

I found this really interesting and would love to repeat it. I have been on quite a few virtual tours in this Covid era, and this one I found more informative than the others, in the short time available. Would definitely recommend it.

A peak into the pages of history through a beautiful narrative walk by Roobaroo walks
Nov 2019
"Awadh" as Lucknow was known is a city of untold history and many fascinating cultural stories.
I was grateful that I could be part of the one day customised tour of Roobaroo walks which included the Residency, interesting lanes of Chowk - checking the chikankari, itar, the famous Tunde kebabs and ending it with La Martinere college. Interacting with Samir was an enthralling experience as he unfolded the history pages so creatively with his stories supported with maps and pictures.

A wonderful overview of lucknow!
Jan 2019 • Solo
I have lived in Lucknow for over 10 years and ashamed to admit that I havent explored the city. I believe visiting buildings nd monuments is pointless unless you can place some context to them. And Roobaroo does that beautifully. The Benares walks i had participated in were excellent and my expectations were high. Roobaroo didnot dissappoint. There were so many highlights - the war chronicles whilst walking through the Residency ( Sameer is an informative and pasionate storyteller - donot miss this!), walk through the bylanes of Chowk, Baradari area, Hazratganj, the visit to Bhatkhande and Naimat khana and of course the informal interation with Mr. Bajpai all so beautifully interspersed. Sameer and Aayush you provided such a comprehensive context (historical, political, economic and social context) of the city- its past and present, you made me appreciate and fall in love with city! Thank you.

Well curated. Guides were knowledgeable and had some fascinating stories to tell. We enjoyed the visits to local speciality shops that had been around for centuries. Also sampled the delicious local cuisine.
