About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- johnsU1183VA0 contributionsPanama City Tour.Jose was awesome. We were a little crowded in the car, but we made it work. The actual tour was great, saw a great deal of the city and surrounding area. The canal exhibit and show was first class. And Jose took us to an authentic Panamanian restaurant for an incredible lunch. I would do this tour with them again. Well done, punctual and very hospitable. Thank you.Written January 19, 2025
- Livelife76780 contributionsPanama Canal locksExcellent trip on the Panama Canal where we got to see how the locks work. The entire trip is 6 hrs long but it could be shaved off by 2 hrs. However, I don’t think that would be possible because of the disembarkation point. Would recommend it to allWritten January 16, 2025
- Keith P0 contributionsGreat tour! Great Guide! We loved it! We were a group of 5 and the tour fit perfectly into our short stay in Panama. Seeing the canal ticked one more thing off our bucket list. Thank you so much.Written January 16, 2025
- Matty3480 contributionsSnorkeling Tour- very unprofessional.A long way for a short time at the snorkeling place. No water, No snacks, lunch and beach chairs extra. It was a lot of money for a driver. Very unprofessional.Written January 15, 2025
- ilovelawrence0 contributionsGonzo Was the Best!We were looking for a short day tour of Panama City before our trip to Bocas del Tory and Barefoot Panama was recommended to us by our hotel in Bocas. Kevin was helpful in making sure the tour length could be accommodated in our schedule, and then happily moved our tour to a different day when our airline travel from the States changed unexpectedly. Gonzo was our tour guide and we couldn't have been happier. He provided so much history and background context for the sights we visited, starting with the Panama Canal. When the van unexpectedly broke down, he was so mortified, but quickly a second driver was arranged to take us to the Smithsonian Center, and then Gonzo met back up with us in Casco to lead us on, again, a very informative walking tour of the area. I definitely recommend Barefoot Panama and ask if you can get Gonzo as your guide - he was great!!!!Written January 15, 2025
- 292KristenA0 contributionsGreat City Tour! This is an excellent tour of some of the key sites in Panama City. Gonzo was a wonderful guide - he speaks perfect English and has so much information and knowledge to share about the canal, Panamanian history, wildlife and nature. While you can visit the Canal visitor center on your own, we appreciated having Gonzo with us to explain more in depth about the locks and history. The visit to Punta Culebra was great for our kids -- the highlight was seeing so many sloths! Gonzo's knowledge of Casco Viejo was also incredible and doing this tour with him on our first day was helpful to orient us to the neighborhood we were staying in. Great communication all around during the booking process, timely pick-up, and very professional company. I highly recommend this tour and Barefoot Panama!Written January 12, 2025
- jsschneider0 contributionsGreat guide. Highly recommend tours by this company.Gonzo was a great guide. Perfect English and so knowledgeable. We went to the Monkey Islands and an Indian Village. Despite crummy weather he did his best to point out and attract monkeys and other animals. At the village, he showed such respect for the Indigenous people and their culture and they for him. Told great stories. We would’ve gone on another tour with him had one been available.Written January 9, 2025
- 252divyak0 contributionsExcellent ExperienceIt was the most smooth part of our trip. Timely pick up, easy communication with quick responses. The best part: they were flexible. We had couple of elderly members and some vegan in our party and Jorge and Kevin were able to accommodate our specific needs without any hesitation and even gave us tips of where to go etc. Next time we travel to Panama I will be calling them again.Written December 22, 2024
- sarahjdh820 contributionsMorning Indian Village & Monkey Island TourI would recommend this tour if you have the time. Jorge was a great guide and it was nice to get out of the city, see a bit of the national park and have some time on the water to see the container ships heading into the canal. We got lucky and ended up with a private tour since it was a slower time of year. We njoyed seeing 3 different types on monkeys on the monkey islands who will jump right on the boat and learning a bit more about the indigenous tribes of Panama. The booking process with Kevin was easy and he also helped us book the Central Hotel in Panama City which we enjoyed. (great pool on the roof and location) We got dropped off around 12 at the Miraflores Lock and made the 12:15 movie and had brought a sandwich lunch to have there. Unfortunately the next boat didn't come through til 3:30pm so we didn't wait around for that and just ended up taking an uber back to Casco Viejo.Written December 14, 2024
- Free_ob0 contributionsGreat trip to PanamaKevin set us up with a great custom golf tour. The hotels and golf courses he chose for us were excellent. The food, city/canal and El Valle tours were excellent as well! His communication skills and attention to detail were amazing. - A6752MNnancya0 contributionsThe hospitality & personal attention from Barefoot Panama set the tone for a perfect day in Panama City! The personal attention was fantastic. Jorge picked us up at the airport and drove us around town while he kept track of the schedule for ships to go through the Panama Canal. There was some type of traffic jam at the Canal. He took us to a place at the mall called El Trapiche for lunch and I was very hesitant because I asked for authentic Panamanian food. He said "trust me" and I'm so glad I did! Everyone dining was a local and the food was delicious! He walked with us around Casco Viejo, including a fabulous coffee shop called Unido. We finally made our way to the Panama Canal just as a huge cargo ship was making its way through the channels. Perfect timing by Jorge! He then dropped us off at our hotel. The price included airport pickup, Panama Canel & iMax movie, plus a personal tour guide. We only spent 1 day in Panama City, and it was perfect. Highly recommend!!Written December 8, 2024
- Meredith C0 contributionsExcellent overview of the cityThis was extremely well rounded. We got to see a little bit of everything. It was a fabulous introduction and a good way to spend your first day in Panama, so you can see where you want to spend more concentrated time. Guide was excellent! Due to a national holiday, we were unable to go to the nature park, but they tried to show us sloths in the wild anyway, and we saw some!Written November 30, 2024
- X4395JTjudyl0 contributionsA bit of ColonJorge did a great job of driving us around the Canal areas, to the visitor center and the ruins of the Fort. We had a nice lunch at the Marina. A good way to spend 4+ hours. Colon is not full of fascinating places, and we were pleased to see what we did. The van was pleasantly comfortable - and there were monkeys in the trees above the road to the Fort -- a bonus!Written November 26, 2024
- waynebZ4577FH0 contributionsMore than I bargained for (in a good way)! The views were all awesome. It was a treat to see Panama City, the Panama Canal and Casco Antiguo! The experience was so much more than a tour-it was like a crash course in Panama history! I have been on multiple tours with Barefoot Panama and all of them were excellent. The locations are beautiful and the vast kinowlege of the tour guides make a tremendous difference on the tours. The next time I visit Panama I will tour with them again.Written October 24, 2024

We had booked a day trip in San Blas that was unfortunately canceled because of the health situation going on around the globe. I had to quickly book another activity to replace the day trip and found the monkey island excursion interesting. The whole day was incredible. Ou guide, Nico, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He allowed us to learn more about the different animal species, culture and way of living from the village and even drove us around the city on our way back to recommend some good restaurants.
We were very happy and grateful for this opportunity and would recommend Nico to everyone booking with Barefoot.

Such a great tour. After an early pickup, we arrived at the Chagres River Marina before 9 am. Leaving the marina, we continued along the river for Monkey Islands, while looking for wildlife, primarily caimans, turtles and any wildlife in the area.
Arriving at Monkey Islands, we were circling around looking for spider, howler and capuchin monkeys. We were not disappointed. They appeared like clockwork, jumping around our boat, every nanosecond moving to somewhere else. The howler monkeys could be heard before spotting them in treetops. They are rather shy and were moving around in the treetops using their prehensile tails. After many photo ops, we continued to Embera Village.
After following a few steps up a small hill, we arrived at the village of the Embera people. Living like they always have, there are a few changes of course. The first missionaries were pentecostal, and for some reason the indigenous tribe connected with them and decided to convert. The tours started with Anne Gordon de Barrigon from Seattle. Married to an Embera man, she wanted to share their culture with the public, while also generating an income for the tribe.Their artwork is beautiful, and all material is organic, including the different colors used. The colors will not fade.
Meeting the Shaman and the tribe, watching them play music and dance was a memorable experience, not to be forgotten. After purchasing a few items and interacting with the kind and gentle locals, we left for a late lunch.

This tour was absolutely spectacular from start to finish. Our guide, Gonzo, was a walking encyclopedia - we learned SO much about Panama’s history and culture. The boat ride was beautiful, cruising along massive shipping boats on the Canal, and the wildlife was incredible - we saw three species of monkeys, all kinds of birds, an iguana, and a crocodile! The visit to the indigenous village was a definite highlight. Gonzo went out of his way when driving back and forth to take different routes so we could see as much as possible. Highly, highly recommend this experience.

We did 4 days of activities. The tour guide on the first two days was super nice but I call it the Instagram tour. It was superficial. If we asked about the naturaleza or a more in-depth question about the history or tour, his answer was “I don’t know.” Or, my favorite was “That’s something French.” The snorkeling trip was our favorite part. The lunch place was pretty expensive but the tour guide was extremely informative and well-versed in the history and the interests of tourists. The last day was Isla Taboga. Barefoot didn’t provide transportation to the ferry and barely any information about how to get there. Recommendations would have been helpful. A friendly guide met us and got us set up on the beach, but then disappeared. He recommended we put our stuff in the bar area for safe keeping because it would be watched but when we returned from lunch it was not being watched. The beach wasn’t luxurious by any means. I would skip it - not the tour company’s fault at all. Lunch was only okay. Our order was taken at the port and we did not receive the correct order. Not worth the value. In general there was a lack of helpful information and communication. I asked about covid info and tips on what to bring. The answers I received were kind of flippant and not very helpful. So, not geared to tourists? My family called it Barebones Panama. We appreciated the adjusted price for a package deal and the restaurant recommendations. The tour guides we always prompt. The vehicle was clean. They were good drivers and wore their masks consistently. Be forewarned that as of May 2022 the Canal museum wasn’t open. Just the viewing area.

No one knows everything.. would you rather have thr guide lie.. silly review.
We favilitate the Taboga trip and pinpoint the location of thr marina and since all you need to do is say Taboga ferry, the line about barely giving you thenlocation is a but silly..
I sware, the power trip some people get when reviewing is shocking.. ask about Covid, like anyone can keep up to date with that, look it up online.. my revire of you isnt a good one, but i have to respond to crap like this so there you go

My husband and I had a blast with our guide Diego and all the activities on this tour. We met several monkeys up close, then enjoyed a unique presentation in a nearby Indigenous Village. The boat ride on Gatun Lake in part of the Panama Canal was a thrill. The day was full of energy and fun! I would definitely book another tour with Barefoot Panama.

I had a group of 50 come to Panma City for a conference. The leaders in town a day early did the Monkey Island Tour and Indian Village, Barefoot Panama handled all of our airport transfers (to and from) and then gave us a full group tour of the city (Miraflores locks and Casco Viejo) as well.
Can't say enough about the prompt communication which made planning a breeze for the many moving parts of our group. All tour guides were right on time for every pick-up. Payment and invoicing was very clear.
Tour guides are knowledgeable and gave great information even while we were just driving to and from the different sites.

At the risk of repeating some of the other reviews, definitely sign up for this tour and have Gonzo be your guide. The tour itself was amazing. The howlers were fun to watch; the Capuchins come right onto the boat and take food from your hand. The village was very interesting and the short rainforest tour was very educational. Gonzo grew up in Colon with American kids from the military bases and speaks just like us. He's extremely knowledgeable on everything Panama. I can't say enough GREAT things about him. You will have an awesome adventure.

Barefoot Panama provided an amazing experience from start to finish! Kevin was so quick to respond to any questions I had and arranged for a timely pick up and drop off from our hotel, hassle free!
Our tour guide Gonzo was absolutely delightful! He was so informative and educated on Panama, wildlife, indigenous culture, and nature. He was funny, and personable. Gonzo was also so patient with making sure we all got to see the monkeys from each island, he knew so much about each species of monkey and told us funny stories about the different types. We really enjoyed our tour, and had a great time! 10/10 recommend booking a tour with Barefoot Panama and requesting Gonzo as your tour guide!! You will not regret it!

Best day in Panama! Our guide Nico had us out to the monkeys early befall the other boats arrived. He came prepared with small amounts of food that the monkeys love. He was very conservation conscious and truly cares about all the monkeys snd other wildlife.
He took us to the village and went on a nature walk where he explained about local plants and trees that can provide life-saving if you were stuck in the forest. She was willing to take us to some markets to pick up some souvenirs. We had a wonderful lunch at his favorite restaurant and took his recommendation on the food which was absolutely delicious. He also took us to do a few personal errands before he dropped us back off. We could not be more grateful

I had the luxury of indulging in the Barefoot experience with Gonzo and Jorge on two different excursions! The first only teased my appetite for more adventure. Both tour guides are wells of knowledge and information that will take you as deep as you wish into the history and tales of these attractions. Gonzo was great at getting me comfortable to embrace the love from the monkeys extended. I had never been that close to wild monkeys. The history of the Indian Village was remarkable to say the least, and every inquiry about the canal was addressed. They are both great at spotting camouflaged wildlife for photo ops!
Jorge navigated expertly to Valle de Anton for one of the most serene experiences of my life. This special place is beyond photos and words. We warmed up with a short hike to the waterfalls before visiting this extraordinary rock telling its own story. An incredible site you have to see for yourself. I learned about the most unique frogs, and then found myself immersed in a majestic butterfly haven. Much of the Barefoot experience felt like it materialized from a fantastical world and I was touring a wonderland!

Hi, sorry I missed you. They could probably pick you up at the Gatun ferry dock (they did this with a couple of people), but they wouldn't drop you off in Colon...you would have to take a taxi or Uber. The tour finished after lunch about 2 PM.
