What to expect
Depart central Zagreb by air-conditioned minivan, and travel south toward Plitvice. Then, break for a stroll and coffee (own expense) in Rastoke, a picture-perfect village dubbed the ‘Small Lakes of Plitvice.’ This historical town fringes the River Slunjčica near its junction with Plitvice’s River Korana, and is famed for its waterfalls. Admire the cascades along with the watermills and distinctive stone-and-wood architecture. Next, continue to UNESCO-listed Plitvice Lakes National Park. Composed of 16 lakes joined by waterfalls, the park is famed for its beauty and lakes’ changing hues, which shift from turquoise to emerald and gray depending on their mineral content and the angle of sunlight. Take a guided tour, following the wooden walkways over the lakes and enjoying the beauty of the rushing cascades. On route, take a boat and tram ride to absorb the scenery. After four hours at Plitvice, enjoy a classic Croatian lunch (own expense), with your guide recommending dishes and drinks (own expense). Finally, return to Zagreb, where your tour ends at the departure point. Breathtaking autumn colors at Plitvice lakes
Oct 2019
What a day to remember! Picked up on time by a mini bus we headed towards Plitvice lakes, on the way to the lakes we stopped for snacks and restroom and a beautiful picturesque village Rastoke. Our guide Marco was great, he talked about the areas we were driving through and i especially liked the explanation of the ecosystem we were about to see. The walk in the park is 3.5 hours, seeing the upper and the lower lakes, and Marco did an excellent job in explaining the ecosystem and showing to us in the park what he was talking about in the bus. After the tour program is lunch stop in a local restaurant where i did not feel going to because i wanted to stay longer at the park, Marco was very flexible with me leaving the group, the group went for lunch and i stayed an additional hour at the park and the bus just picked me up at the arranged bus stop on the way back to Zagreb. Excellent because i could enjoy additional time at the lakes enjoying the breathtaking colors that appear only in Autumn and take some more memorable photos.
Recommendation for all of you...GO IN OCTOBER!!!

Colorful heaven!!!
Oct 2019
We were really looking forward doing this tour and it completely lived up to our expectations. Probably the best time to come as our guide Marko told us that these colorful panoramic views appear for only 2 months during the autumn. Picked up on time we continued towards the lakes. We had two stops on the way, one for snacks and one walkthrough stop in Rasteko town which is an excellent preview before that wonder of nature called Plitvice. Marko explained at the beginning the program and during the tour gave an excellent explanation of the bio dynamic sistem and gave us some facts and history about the places that we where going through on our way to Plitvice and also gave some good food recs for the lunch stop in the restaurant after the park although we would have liked it better to have a picnic at the park and maybe spend some more time there. The only problem were the two ladies that did not speak English and of course did not understand anything Marko said. That did cause some minor problems cause they were falling behind every once and a while and although he even tried to speak to them in his bad Spanish and also Italian they could not understand and kept talking to him in Spanish, even got mad a little bit?? You dont take an English speaking tour if you dont speak English, summary excellent tour with excellent company service Portal day tours and Marko the guide that did an excellent job in guiding us and balancing the problematic guests in our tour. GOOD JOB!!

Nature at its best!!
We started the day at 8 am from Zagreb and though Plitvice is 3 hours away but it was a beautiful drive and we had good stop overs.

Our Guide Marko was very good, friendly and entertaining. We shared facts and history about the area.

Plitvice lakes is beautiful and thanks to Marko who took us through different routes to ensure we were not stuck in queue as we went in high season and too many people.

Then we went to a local restaurant in the area and food was excellent. The cheese pancake was best I ever had.

Overall a excellent day!

Great trip with Portal day tours to Plitvice lakes
Jul 2019 • Family
Our last day of vacation my family and i went to Plitvice lakes and although it was high season we had a wonderful day. I already visited this place on my own in high season and was afraid of the crowds and jams but we had the fortune of having Marko, a really attentive guy as our tour guide. Thanks to him we managed to skip all the queues and have a good time. This is something you have to be aware of when visiting Plitvice lakes in high season....A LOT OF PEOPLE...just 2 much...There were 2 really old people in our group and the walk is 4-5 miles and you have 4 hours to see all of it, which is not possible with people who can not walk 4-5 miles and he gave them an option which was suitable for them... and was great for the rest of us because the 1st part is 3 miles and it takes you 2-3h through the forest and along the lakes until you reach the 1st break. Also, there was a lady that spoke only spanish and Marko asked a member of our group who spoke spanish to translate...that lady was almost crying...After the break(20min) the group went on but i took the advice of staying at Kozjak lake and went lake rowing with my family. The bus picked us at the arranged spot and we went to the restaurant(4/5), got some good recommendations and on the way we got to try some Chawarak(sp?) & elder flower juice which are Croatian authentic home made food products...an excellent last day of vacay!

Great tour and great guide
Jun 2019 • Family
Our tour to Plitvice National park with onward drop to Split was just amazing. It is one of the best ways to visit the park from Zagreb and also for the onward journey to Split.

The tour is amazing just one caution! It involves a lot of walking and can be tough for people who are not fit to walk say for 3-4 hours.

I must mention our guide Marco who was really great and knowledgable when it came to history of Croatia as well as economy and had some lively and educating conversation with him.

I must also mention that he did help a old tourist from our group who could not walk further half way through the hike by calling the ranger and requesting him to take the tourist back.

The second part of the journey too had a great guide ‘Tony’ who was very helpful calling our host Silvija to inform her about our drop off point so that she could come to pick us up.

Absolutely Fantastic
Jun 2019 • Couples
The tour was fantastic. Marko, the tour guide, did a fantastic job of leading the tour. He did a great job of giving us information on places we traveled through, not just facts but background information, stories, and did it in a warm way. He went beyond when one of the people on board discovered they’d left something at a hotel. He called and discovered it had been found so made arrangements for it to be fetched and delivered to the bus upon its return. In addition, when someone discovered their wallet was missing, Marko, called the national park and a gas station to see if it had been returned. When we stopped at the restaurant, he gave recommendations for food including some for vegetarians. I would happily sign up for another tour with him as leader again and I highly recommend this tour as it is well worth the price.

Well run tour that's comfortably done in a day
We booked this tour prior to leaving Australia to ensure that we could fit it into our itinerary. The booking process was simple and confimation was received promptly. We located the meeting point easily and the coach arrived on time. We travelled on a 20 seater bus which, although cramped, made the tour group a manageable size.  The coach was comfortable and airconditioned, although it took the driver and guide some time to work out how to operate it! Although seatbelt signs were displayed on the windows, these did not seem to be accessible on our seats - an anchor point for clipping the belt but the belt itself was nowhere to be seen. Our guide was Marko, who gave a clear commentary about what we were seeing and organised the group well, with one exception. When we arrived at the lakes, we alighted on the main road outside a hotel with no lakes in sight, however he failed to clearly announce that we had actually arrived at the lakes. We found this out only after we had walked some distance from the drop off point, too late to retrieve jackets that we may have needed for rain protection during the walk. Fortunately it did not rain! Lunch was taken after we had toured the lakes at around 3pm.  Recommend that you take snacks with you to cover for this.  Overall, a well organised tour, the only negative aspect being inadequate coach safety.

Excellent tour with Ivan as our driver! Had lots of fun during long car rides and made six hours in a bus much more fun. Got to see all the sights and even made one or two additional stops to see some things slightly off the beaten path.
