Outstanding day, highly recommended.
Sep 2019
We were a group of 24 who booked a private tour from Zagreb to Split via Plitvice Lakes. We could hardly believe the coach that arrived for us in Zagreb! It was most luxurious and huge. We could each have had two seats with more to spare. Our guide Andrej was superb, both professional and enthusiastic. Thanks to his answering our many questions, we learnt a lot about Croatian history. He also did an outstanding job of guiding us through Plitvice Lakes. Though our chosen route was long, at times tricky to navigate, and crowded, it was 100% worth it. One of the must-see sights of Croatia. Andrej also suggested a lunch stop which proved excellent: great Croatian food and served up with little delay. We arrived in Split after a long but outstanding day. I should also note the coach's driver was exemplary.
The next day we had a short tour of Diocletian's Palace in Split. This was also organised by Portal Day Tours, who wisely suggested two groups of 12 rather than one of 24. This made perfect sense, given the crowds and the confined spaces. I'm happy to report that our guides, Nikolina and Kristina, were both excellent. While you can wander around the palace without a guide, we gained so much by having guides.
I have been taking groups on overseas tours now for about 30 years, so have some experience of tour companies, and I found Portal Day Tours to be thoroughly professional and a pleasure to deal with at all stages. The whole group also appreciated the enthusiasm and professionalism of the guides, all of whom showed a willingness to go the extra mile to make our time in Croatia special.

I thought this tour was fine: our bus transfer to the falls was fine. At the falls our tour guide did not carry the little flag which signified him as a tour leader and it was difficult to spot him. Our transfer from the falls to Zagreb was very comfortable and in a smaller van/bus. Everyone was very friendly.

Amazing experience!!!!
Had an absolutely fabulous day with Marko as our guide - our tour ended up being only 6 people due to a large group cancelation. Marko made us feel like it was a private tour, taking us through the lakes in a way that avoided crowds and made the experience even more special. Also took us to an amazing lunch spot (try the creme filled crepes) and easy transfer to another bus that took us from the lakes to Split. Couldn’t recommend this enough if you are trying to get from Zagreb to Split and want to see the lakes.

Amazing opportunity
Jul 2019
Our guide, Marco, was wonderful. He kept the pace reasonable and was fun, energetic, and took us on 'his own' path that allowed us to see the views without the lines. He told us the best places for photos and what to expect. The natural beauty of the area was amazing. I have never come across anything like it before. Be sure to wear clothes for hiking and comfy shoes. Also, have some water available. Once you get on the path there really is no stopping. The transfer from Zagreb to Split was amazing. The restaurant you visit at the end is also great. I will say the bus from Zagreb was much nicer than the bus to Split.

Great tour company, would use them again
We toured with Portal from Zagreb to Split via Plitvice Lakes. On the way to Plitvice we stopped at an incredibly cute village for a half hour walk. This was a long day but totally worth it. Plitvice is a must see in Croatia, it’s stunning. I would avoid August if you can, it’s busy and we had to queue twice to see the bigger waterfalls as the National Park does not seem to have any form of crowd control, our guide took charge though and helped with some crowd flow. The park allows 650 visitors an hour! Portal tour agency was very responsive and showed up at the meeting point ontime. The bus was comfortable and we had our first stop at Marche which had excellent fresh food incase you don’t have time for breakfast. There are plenty of rest stops. Our guide Marinko was excellent, knowledgeable with a good sense of humor and made the tour informative and engaging. He told us about the Croatian culture and history which was interesting as well as telling us about the sights. I would use this tour company again.

Superb service
Aug 2019 • Solo
The trip is very well organised. Punctual, great guide, comfortable bus, relaxed walk through Rastoke before the longer hike around the Plitvice Lakes, ending with a very nice meal & the best long cold beer I can remember. It was needed! I had arranged that they would drop me off before Split and the company had a car & driver ready at the intersection to take me right to the door of my friend’s apartment. Now that’s service.

Amazing natural beauty
Jul 2019 • Couples
Our guide,Marinko, (sp?) was knowledgeable and funny. The lakes and waterfalls were stunning. The walk is challenging, several hours with many hills. The restaurant after the lakes was great. The final part of the transfer was smooth and the assistant on the bus was kind to contact our lodging in Split to advise them of our time of arrival. A wonderful way to accomplish the transfer, much better than a straight bus trip.

Solid day out with all the sights
Jul 2019 • Friends
Marko was a great tour guide, giving us info of the area as well as some humour.
Plitvice is a lot less crowded these days because of restrictions they have out in place with people visiting per hour.
It took 4 hours to see all the lakes roughly so wear good shoes!
The stop after Plitvice just out of Leka for “lunch” which was around 6pm was absolutely amazing. I had what Marko recommended (lamb on the spit and pancakes/palacinke with Basa cheese) and highly recommend both! The tour also arranged for our accommodation to meet us at the drop off point and walk us to our accommodation which was good.
