What to expect
  • Your tour begins with morning pickup from your Cusco hotel. Traveling either by private vehicle or by minibus with up to 15 other participants, set out on the scenic journey to the Inca city of Tipon. Jump out to explore the vast archaeological site, renowned for its elaborate agricultural terraces and water channels, which offer insight into the engineering marvels of the Incas. Make a quick stop in the modern town of Tipon, where you might get chance to see the local delicacy—guinea pig—being cooked up on a spit, then carry on to nearby Oropesa, a small town famed as the ‘bread capital of Peru’. After enjoying a glimpse of local life in the valleys, continue the short distance to Pikillacta, home to the only pre-Inca archeological site in the Cusco region. Listen as your guide explains its origins, dating back to the ancient Wari culture, and discover their influence on the Incas as you admire the adobe structures and other ruins. Finally, pay a visit to Andahuaylillas, a magnificent Baroque church renowned for its interior artworks; many sourced from the prestigious the Cusco Religious Art School. As you marvel at the grand interiors, you will understand why it’s been dubbed the ‘Sistine Chapel of the Americas’. After a busy morning of sightseeing, return to Cusco, making a quick stop in the traditional village of Saylla along the way, where you can grab lunch (own expense)—the local specialty is Cusco fried pork (chicharrones). On return to Cusco, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Brilliant!
A really enjoyable tour. Our driver, Jordi and guide Gary, were excellent. Picked us up at our hotel right on time. Explained where we were going throughout the tour. Gary is a very knowledgeable guy, able to answer all our questions. Gave us plenty of time at each location to view on our own and take pictures. They even stopped at a popular bakery on the way back and bought some bread for us to try. There were only two of us so the trip was a very personal tour and got dropped off back at our hotel. Wonderful and great value for money.

Great tour to a trio of sites
Sep 2019 • Couples
We wanted to explore the Cusco area outside of the Sacred Valley so this tour was perfect. Fabrizio our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and made the different sites come alive! It was interesting to learn about the pre-Inca sites that inspired the Inca; Pikillacta. Tipon was a marvel of construction with its complex irrigation and the church at Andahuaylillas was awe-inspiring. Thank you Fabrizio for the great tour. Thank you to our driver Martin. It was a memorable day and we would highly recommend the experience!

Great Sites - Really Knowlegable and friendly guide and driver
Jul 2019 • Couples
We booked this tour but my wife was unwell so it turned into a solo tour for just me. Andahuaylillas has a very interesting and beautiful catholic church but you can't take pictures inside. The guide explained to me how the church was really richly decorated by donations from the exploitation of the local people. (not the first example of this in Peru). Pikillacta is a fantastic and extensive pre-Inca(Wari) site with very good explanation from the guide. Tipon is pure Inca and reminiscent of Moray but agricultural rather than experimental. Again good explanations from the guide. I recommend this tour if you are staying in Cusco - the sites really are worth a visit and makes a very enjoyable half day.

Great guide
Jun 2019 • Couples
Knowledgeable guide took us to the amazing church. Alone that would have been worth the trip. The guide’s deep knowledge of the man behind the creation of this sanctuary and the artists who painted the ceiling and the beautiful gold-leafed altar was truly incredible.
In addition, we were taken to pre-inka and inka sites that were spectacular.
Again, the tour guide arrived on time, drove safely, answered all our questions and brought us back to the hotel with a new understanding of the local culture and its heritage.

Our favorite tour!
Jun 2019 • Family
Our hotel arranged a private tour with this company so it was just the 6 of us and our amazing guide. I can't remember his name but we did the tour on Monday, June 3. Anyhow, the Southern Valley is a quiet, more authentic experience in Peru and much more relaxed than the frantic hustle of Cusco. We were pretty much the only people there at the church and at Pikillacta, and Tipon had few visitors as well. We loved all 3 places but I think Tipon was our favorite. This tour really added to our trip to Peru and we highly recommend it!

The BEST tour of our stay in Cusco!
Apr 2019 • Couples
WOW - our guide Gary & driver Jordy picked us up and we spent the next 5 - 6 hours with them. Very fortunate to have a private tour & Gary's knowledgeable & interesting facts along the way were great! Jordy's ability to maneuver the car was ..... amazing! We visited a spectacular church and two ruin sites, Gary (who wasn't feeling well with a cold) took his time & after the first stop my husband (who also had a cold & stayed in the car) it was just the two of us. Extra special memories and so much knowledge! We finished off with a spectacular lunch, a short distance from our hotel. If you are looking for a 1/2 day tour from Cusco, MachuPicchu Latin American tours (and specifically Gary & Jordy) are exceptional! Thanks for a great day guys!

Great history tour
Mar 2019 • Couples
This tour covered the pre-Inca, Inca and Spanish history. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting on all of these. The sites visited were all fascinating and we came away amazed by the history and the scale and state of preservation and maintenance of the sites. An enjoyable trip and full of surprises as to the scale and sophistication of the sites visited.

Great Sites and Information
I really enjoyed my tour of the South side of the Sacred Valley. My tour guide was full of knowledge and I didn’t feel rushed at any of the sites. Tipon was just breathtaking and I also enjoyed how our tour guide told us not only about the site but the different plants and animals of the area as well. The church is a special part of it too, providing more of a variety in the tour so you can experience the overall culture of the area. I highly recommend!

The perfect tour to end our stay in Cusco
Aug 2018 • Friends
We were looking for one last tour to do around Cusco after having done the typical rounds through Sacred Valley. This was perfect. Matteo was a great and friendly guide who was entertaining and clear when telling us about the history of the ruins we visited. Tipon and Pikillacta were some of the last of the ruins that we hadn't seen on the Tourist Ticket and we were glad we went! We were given the time and leisure to explore the ruins as we pleased and finished on time! One of the best tours of our entire trip!

Great Tour
Apr 2018
Great tour to explore the areas south of Cusco. The church is modest on the outside and over the top on the inside, really beautiful. No pictures are allowed but they give you either a disc or calendar with images from the church's interior. Lots of vendors around the outside if you "need" to do some shopping. Tipon is beautiful, be prepared for many, many stairs to explore the entire area both at Tipon and Pikillaqta.
