With the snow-capped Cotopaxi Volcano (the second highest active volcano in the world) at its heart, Cotopaxi National Park provides a playground for outdoor adventure south of Quito. With this day trip, explore the park’s forests, mountains, lakes, and other ecosystems and your own pace with expertise from your own private naturalist guide.

What to Expect

Cotopaxi, the second most popular adventure destination in Ecuador is just one and a half hours away from Quito. If you find being in nature an uplifting experience, then take a visit to the second highest active volcano in the world that will leave its mark on you! We will start at 08h00 from your hotel, and around 10h00 in the encounter with Cotopaxi Volcano (5.897 meters above sea level), you will be surrounded by pristine forests, mountains, lakes, wild horses and ecosystems which change amazingly as you go to the highest point. You will also observe the exotic fauna as you take part of the numerous activities offered by this unforgettable adventure!

Cotopaxi National Park was created in 1975 as a protected area for the volcanoes and lakes within it. You will be fascinated by the most extraordinary nature in the second most visited national park in Ecuador. An impressive variety of animals live within the 33.300-hectare park such as: condors, pumas, spectacled bears, andean foxes, carunculated caracaras (an endemic specie of the region), llamas, frogs, paramo hummingbirds and many others.

This park also has an important collection of lakes and mountain peaks. One the most outstanding of these is Limpiopungo Lake, which reflects in its waters the majestic Rumiñahui, 4.757 meters above sea level. With no doubt, when you visit Cotopaxi National Park, and leave behind the noise and stress of the big city, you will experience a feeling of spirituality and love for nature. You will be back in the hotel at 16h30.
