Enlightening Tour With a Knowledgeable Guide
We haven’t stopped talking about this walking tour since it concluded. Focusing on the period of Hellenic history from the conclusion of the Greek War of Independence until today, this tour incorporated the cultural, political, geographical, and foreign influences which have effected the country’s evolution. We were aware of much of the history covered in this presentation, but we appreciated how our guide Isaac connected the events of the past to help us better understand how modern Greece came to be. He was informative, interesting, and entertaining. We enjoyed the mix of locations and his insight about the importance of the sights we visited was enlightening. We definitely want to learn more about what we saw and heard.

      Wallking the talk. Absolutely fascinating.
I thought I understood a bit about Greek politics before Issac walked us through it - literally. Absolutely fascinating and only something you can do on foot and in person. I urge you to do this tour. Plenty of opportunity to sit and just listen (not all walking) or engage in discission. There are bits of Athens and significant historical events you simply won't know without Issac. Five stars.

      Great Tour to understand Greece
Isaac opens your eyes to the challenges refugees face in Greece, significantly raising awareness on this critical issue. His deep knowledge imparted so much insight—I felt truly enlightened. This tour offers a unique perspective, one that I highly recommend experiencing. It's a valuable opportunity to explore a lesser-known side of Athens, away from the typical tourist attractions.

      Interesting tour
Maria was great. She has lots of experience and is out to make a difference in the world, in her case in Athens. This is a special quality. Thank you for being you!

A really unique and eye-opening experience!
This is one of the best experiences/ tours that I have ever done. Isaac is a wealth of knowledge on Greece’s complex political and social dynamics, both contemporary and historical, and weaves it all together in a fascinating way to really lift the lid on what makes Greece what it is today, demystifying its apparent contradictions with insightful explanations and perspectives. I really like how he tried to draw comparisons to the socio-political contexts other countries that the visitor may be familiar with – in my example, India and the UK – and also have dived in as deep as one wanted into specific topics. It really helped peel the onion for me and gave me a completely different perspective of the country, which I was visiting for the first time (though I can see how it could be equally eye-opening for someone who has visited before or even lives there). I also really appreciated that although I happened to be the only person booked on the particular tour (and which I could unfortunately not do much about because of my overall itinerary), Isaac was still happy to go ahead with the tour and did so with the same gusto and energy which I presume he would have with a larger group. Thank you Isaac for a great experience!

      Unique experience
Isaac is knowledgeable and personable with a good sense of humor which made the subject matter much easier to enjoy. As someone with a Greek heritage, it’s has inspired me to dig deeper and learn more on this topic. Definitely recommend!

      Excellent tour
This is an excellent tour that provides an important and thoughtful framework of modern Greece and how it exists today. Isaac is excellent in walking (literally and figuratively) you through the world of modern Greek politics and demonstrating the various competing forces that shape it. I highly recommend this very thoughtful tour.

A fascinating insight into what’s been happening in Greece
We took the tour with Isaac to find out a bit more about what we’ve seen in the news from Greece over the last few years. Isaac really brought this to life with humour, great story telling and really helpful ways of relating Greece to other countries. Of course people go to Athens for the Acropolis, but Isaac helped make the recent history a must see through this tour!

Great introduction to modern Greek history and politics!
Great overview of Athens' political history with Isaac. He took the time to walk through historical neighbourhoods and explain everything to us patiently, from Greek independence to modern Greek politics. Would love to hear about Greek history from a Greek in future, but this was a great introduction and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from Isaac!

      Best walking tour ever
If you are into political and social history, then you will love this tour. Isaac was able to answer all my questions about the Greek history and modern life, like: Is modern Greece into feminism post the me- too movement? Does it care about climate change? What are the anarchists actually fighting for? What is the state of racism? The history was absolutely fascinating. I recommend it to people who are into this kind of thing.

Get to the political heart of current Greek policy
The "Athens Social and Political Walk" hosted by Isaac is a fantastic tour. If you're interested in politics and you want to gain a deeper understanding of Greece (beyond of the standard touristic spots), I can definitely recommend Isaac's tour. He will explain to you: - the nation-building of the modern Greek state - the financial crisis in Greece since 2008 and its impact on the rise of populism and radical political groups - the history of the anarchic neighborhood "Exarcheia" and how it is jeopardize by gentrification and a very suppressive use of "Law and Order" by current Greek policy Isaac is an easy-going, interesting and very knowledgeable guide. I appreciated his sophisticated views on current Greece while also giving an international context. As mentioned above: I can absolutely recommend this tour.

Very good tour with a knowledgeable guide
The trip was well organized. Isaac is very knowledgeable in political science in general and specifically in Greek politics and social issues. We learned about Greece's recent history (did you know? All the neo-classical architecture in Athens was commissioned by a German politician), interesting fascets of local economics and even understood why the crisis with the EU was inevitable. Me and both of my friends (Canadian and Israeli) enjoyed a lot and were very much engaged throughout. We also walked through the so-called anarchist neighborhood and got a very good explanation of the intricacies in play there. I feel this tour gave me valuable social sensitivity and brought me a bit out of just sight-seeing ignorance for the rest of my stay in Athens. I would recommend this tour to any one who's likely minded.

      Illuminating and well-organised
I took this tour at the end of a two-month holiday in Greece and went home with a deeper and more accurate understanding of Greek politics. Isaac adapted the talk to make comparisons with the various countries represented on the tour. I feel like I learnt so much and am grateful to Isaac for all the work he does to illuminate the complex nature of Greece's political history and culture.

A richer understanding of Athens and Greece
Go to the Acropolis and wander around Plaka on day one for your ancient history fix. But save day two (or three) for this tour if you want to learn about the dynamic living history of Athens happening right before your eyes (and under your feet). I had read a lot about modern Athens before my trip and it was powerful to see my book learning reflected accurately in the streets. It was very illuminating and thought provoking. Isaac is knowledgeable and entertaining (in short, "a good guy"). If you're used to the complexities and grittiness of urban centers make sure to ask for the "extra spicy" option.
