Yogyakarta Cultural Tour: Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple and Merapi Volcano
US$62.00
Overview

Yogyakarta is unanimously hailed as the cultural heart of Indonesia. This 10-hour tour, ideal for travellers with limited time in Java, gives you the chance to tick off three Yogyakarta highlights in only one day. Visit Borobudur, the largest Buddhist monument in the world; drive to the smoking summit of Mt Merapi in a 4x4; and witness a beautiful sunset at Prambanan, home to a collection of spectacular Hindu temples. On this small-group tour, limited to 5 people, round-trip transport from your Yogyakarta hotel is included.

What to Expect

Your tour begins with pickup at your Yogyakarta hotel, where you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle equipped with Wi-Fi. During the 1-hour journey to Borobudur, your guide provides a historical overview of the largest Buddhist monument in the world.

On arrival at the UNESCO-listed temple, marvel at a sea of bells and Buddha statues as you clamber to Borobudur’s summit and enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding nature.

Then, proceed to the Pawon and Mendut temples, important pilgrimage sites that attract thousands of Buddhists every year. Hear of their rich history before arriving at Mt Merapi, the most active volcano in Indonesia.

Here, you’ll board 4x4 vehicle and conquer the rugged terrain of Mt Merapi’s slopes. Marvel at its smoking summit and feel your adrenaline levels rise as you hurtle towards the top of the volcano. Please note, the jeep ride is at your own expense.

When hunger strikes, you’ll have the option to revitalize with lunch (own expense) before your final stop — Prambanan. As you stroll among spectacular Hindu temples, witness an enchanting sunset that enhances the beauty of the UNESCO-listed site.

The tour concludes with drop-off back at your Yogyakarta hotel.
