On arrival at the UNESCO-listed temple, marvel at a sea of bells and Buddha statues as you clamber to Borobudur’s summit and enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding nature. Then, proceed to the Pawon and Mendut temples, important pilgrimage sites that attract thousands of Buddhists every year. Hear of their rich history before arriving at Mt Merapi, the most active volcano in Indonesia. Here, you’ll board a 4x4 vehicle and conquer the rugged terrain of Mt. Merapi’s lower slopes. Marvel at its smoking summit. Please note, the jeep ride is at your own expense. When hunger strikes, you’ll have the option to revitalize with lunch before your final stop — Prambanan. As you stroll among spectacular Hindu temples, witness an enchanting sunset that enhances the beauty of the UNESCO-listed site. The tour concludes with a drop-off back at your Yogyakarta hotel.

Borobudur is certainly worth visiting. The view was majestic and awesome. Recommended to be there early as it gets really hot towards mid-day.

Historical places of worship
Sep 2019
First start with waiting for the Rising Sun, so many keen and interested visitors. Early start 3.30am.
Set up for vantage point and eat my breakfast packaged by the hotel.
First peep of sunrise at 5.30am.
Then slowly down the steps to proceed to Borobudur Temple.
So many trips to Indonesia, at last to one of the wonders of the world.
First worry "Will I be able to climb the steps, which varies in height and no railing".
We take our time after two levels, rest my legs and walk to the other cardinal directions.
At last, the top and good view of the surrounding areas.
Descending is another problem for me, step by step. Extreme care and take your time.
Next stop, Prambanan Temple.
It's hot and dusty.
The surrounding areas are laid with granite gravel and with a strong breeze the dust is churned.
Interesting Umbrella Exibition and Display at that time.
Again climbing up and descending, problem but slowly. (71 years young and overweight)
Rest for a coconut water and back to Yogyakarta

Worth the price!

I highly recommend this trip! Once we book the trip, the guide (his name is Bang Bang) contact us by email and WhatsApp. We wanted to see the sunrise at Borobudur temple, therefore our guide gladly accepted to pick us at 3 am in our hotel instead of the normal 6am time that is described in the trip. Bang Bang was amazing! Very friendly and with knowledge to explain to us the history of the temples. The Borobudur temple is gonna blow your mind! The sunrise at Borobudur is something that I will never forget. After that we had a breakfast that is included when you pay the ticket entrance to the temple. Bang bang also took us to another small temples. The tour to Merapi volcano is ok, but the top of the cherry of this trip is the Borobudu and Prambanan temples. At the end of the day we saw an amazing sunset and Prambanan temple and then Bang Bang took us to our hotel. One of the best experience of our trip to Indonesia.

Borobudur & Prambanan are excellent
Jul 2019 • Couples
First to say that our driver, who we then hired as a guide Ardi was fantastic and made the difference between "another b***** temple tour" and a very enjoyable day.
Both Borobudur and Pranbatan are excellent temples to see but, if like us you have seen Ankor Wat and temples ad-infinitum in Thailand and Sri Lanka it can get a bit of - you have to do it but .... If you haven't then you must go see them.

Within the tour you pay for an English speaking driver. Ardi clarified this on the way to Borobudur however he is available for hire.
This guy knows so much! I said to him before we started - 90 minutes here will be all we need. However he took us around the 1st level and told us the story of several of the panels and related it back to both Hindu and Buddhist beliefs AND today's issues. He is a Muslim so enlightened us a lot about common Islamic beliefs also.
We spent 3 hours there and I am sure that if I asked him, he could have spent 8 hours telling us interesting stuff.
We then went to Pawon Temple. This is not interesting but the civet cat and coffee was really interesting.
Final call for us was Prambanan Temple. Again a really spectacular temple and again Ardi knew so much.
Unfortunately we went in the last week of the Java school holiday so the place was absolutely packed with Indonesian families. The crowds were fine and the people amazingly friendly. The traffic however was a big problem.
The clouds cover meant that a trip to Merepi Volcano would have been a waste of time, and anyway we had spent so much time at the temples that it was irrelevant anyway.

Beware - we bought combination tickets for both temples at IDR1,250,000 for 2 people. With the price of everything else in Java so cheap this is a bit of a shock but when you convert it into £, Euro or $ it is not too expensive and extremely good value actually.

Final words - Ardi is incredibly knowledgeable and very interesting. Nice guy with a great attitude. Worth every penny.

Worth the cost and the early start!
When I first booked this tour I didn't realise that, despite it bring very clear on the listing, the cost doesn't include entrance fees for the attraction. Most of my tours in Indonesia have been ~£15 cheaper, so I started to wonder if I had made the right choice, but there was nothing to worry about!

Although I'd booked at 6:30am start, driver Dani messaged me the night before to ask if I wanted to go for sunrise (a 3:30am departure from my hotel in central Yogya). I mulled it over for an hour or so but, with ten hours' notice, decided to go for it. So off we set at 3:30.

We didn't return home until close to 7. During that long day we visited an astonishing five temples, the Buddhist monastery, and Mount Merapi. Dani was very easy company, full of energy despite the long day, and with excellent English skills. We chatted all day about various things, and his driving was always safe and comfortable. I ended up tipping even more at the end of the day because I was so grateful for his willingness to manage the early start and long day. I'm consequently very happy to recommend this trip. It was worth every rupiah and every second of sleeplessness.

Gorgeous Yogyakarta with excellent tour guide and driver
Apr 2019 • Couples
The wonders of Yogyakarta have impressed us a lot. This tour is incredibly nice and very well organized. Specially if you have the driver Ardi, which is also an excellent guide. He made the car trips very interesting at all moments with lots of interesting data, and was flexible and patient with our needs of taking more photos, eating, etc. You don't fail with this tour of javabali.

Yogyakarta tour in a day
Mar 2019 • Couples
Due to limited time, I opted to look for the best way to tour Yogyakarta's major tourist attractions in the most convenient way. The tour lasted for a day and I was able to visit Borobudur, Prambanan and Merapi volcano. Our tour guide can speak some English and very friendly though he was a bit late. Make sure you get things straight with your guide especially the meeting place after touring each attraction to make sure you clearly understand each other and avoid unnecessary waiting times. The sun was scorching hot during our tour so make sure you have sunblock or umbrella with you to avoid sun burn. There were lots of local tourists in Borobudur temple so taking nice pictures will require some patience. The Merapi volcano tour is quite nice but nothing much to see there. The only thrill for me going there is to ride a 4x4 refurbished Toyota (vintage) land cruisers along some bumpy road. Prambanan temple is nice with lots of photo opportunities. The scenic spots and the nice temples are worth visiting. Make sure you buy the "combination ticket" for both Borobudur and Prambanan temples to save some money. The combined ticket price is at IDR560,000 (around USD40) each and if you buy the tickets separately, the cost is around IDR360,000 each.
