You’ll depart from central Beijing in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan, where you’ll settle back to enjoy the views of the Chinese countryside as you make your way to Mutianyu. The group is limited to only 12 people, so you’ll be guaranteed an intimate and personalized experience.
Other sections of the wall are crowded with visitors and often in poor condition, but the quieter, under-the-radar Mutianyu Great Wall has been fully restored. Ascend watchtowers built during the Ming Dynasty for stunning panoramas of the surrounding countryside, covered by thick and fragrant chestnut orchards. You’ll be able to walk at your own pace, admiring the wall as it snakes through the green hills.
With an optional upgrade, you’ll have the chance to take a scenic cable car ride down the wall—or even slide down the ancient barricade by toboggan. Your guide will be on hand to give you background on the history of the wall, from its origins as a barrier to northern invaders to its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. End the day with an authentic local lunch before making your way back to Beijing.
