- terrymU1619NR00Great variety and plenty of chicken and beer!Had great time sampling a variety of chicken and beer. We were only ones on tour with our guide Ron. Made for good conversation over more beer and chicken than we could eat. Definitely a great tour delivering on what was promised
- tim2018000Incredible food and atmosphere on an amazing tour.An amazing night out! Excellent food, drink and company. The evening was hosted by Hannah. I went with my 20y old son and others we met in the group included 2 Kiwi sisters and 2 Aussies. We’d all booked the 3 stop tour; BBQ then fried food in the market then chicken in a pub. Go hungry as the beautiful food just keeps coming, and if you have your drinking hat on be prepared as the beer and Soju was flowing all night. After the tour ended and Hannah left, the 6 of us went on for a 4th stop until 2am. We were the only foreigners in all stops so we were certainly off the beaten track. Hannah was the perfect host, telling/showing us Korean food and drink customs, plus a few drinking games… A Seoul highlight for us.
- 233darrieng00Highly recommend, even if you're using an old phone! On it's own, a fascinating tour through Seoul's hidden streets. Our tour guide Steve has a contagious enthusiasm for the location and for photography. Steve shared his wisdom on framing and using reflections to enhance our amatuer phone photographs and we had a blast. Highly recommend and if it happens to rain the night of your tour it is all the more reason to attend. Safely of course! High praise to Steve and Zenkimchi it was a wonderful night.
- kevinmN1351UA00Amazing food and drink, educational and a ton of fun! This is a must do! Joe was a wonderful guide. At first we were a little disappointed that we met someone who looked like an American as our guide. Yes, our group was American and Korean/American, but we really wanted the inside scoop on the food and culture. We quickly realized that Joe has the inside scoop and knows the language, the locals and the food scene. He has lived there for 19 years and Korea is really his home. We learned so much about the different foods and alcohol and had a ton of fun. It was educational, delicious and one of the highlights of our trip. I can't recommend this tour enough. I imagine the other guides are great too, but I am glad we got Joe.
- Kate W00Great way to kick start a trip to SeoulWell what a great introduction to the food scene of Seoul. We were met by our guide Joe at the train station and he took us around as we tried great food! You will not go home hungry. I’d highly recommend this tour, you’ll get to learn about the cuisine, eating etiquette and culture. We did this tour the day after we arrived and it was a great way to start our trip. Thanks to our knowledgeable guide Joe for going above and beyond. You’ll not be disappointed on this tour.
- TinaMacHop00Best Night in Seoul!Food Tour, you've got it! We had a total BLAST with Joe on this tour, he was so fun and brought us to some epicly delicious restaurants. We were hootin' and hollerin' all night, what a trip! The food, was absolutely delicious. From the amazing pork belly, to the tempura everything, to the fried chicken, we can't stop talking about our experience. Our family of 10 was so incredibly happy, we would do it all again if we could! Must go! Joe was the BEST!!
- kipa7400Off the beaten track in KoreaIf you want to eat at a tourist restaurant with menus in English and poor food in a sterile environment then DO NOT DO THIS TOUR! If you want a real Korean Experience, with a superb English speaking guide who has lived in Korean for numerous years then sign up now. What a great night (even with jetlag). Hannah provided us with great insight into her experience living in South Korea, as well as a great BBQ chef, she really had us all engaged throughout the evening. I can't recommend it highly enough. Thank you Hannah! awesome
- V7907QMtomt00Great guide, great food!Ron was a sympathetic and entertaining guide, food was also very tasty. We enjoyed ourselves a lot, had great conversations about culture, food and history. Be aware that this tour mainly consists of meat-dishes!
- Christiancc100Fun introduction to city and Korean food! What a blast! Hannah was the hostess with the mostest, and took us to some awesome bbq, fried foot and fried chicken places. Lots of food, lots of drinks and lots of laughs! We also learned a lot about Korean culture, and doing this on my first day in Seoul was the perfect introduction to the city, highly recommend!
- BobbyK31200not to be missed!omg, what an amazing night. First of all, our guide (Hannah) was a fantastic host, fun to hang out with and gave us tons of interesting cultural tidbits about Korea. Every one of the three food stops was incredible. The port BBQ, the night market and the fried chicken place were all exceptional. I'd return to any one of them. Hannah made everyone feel so comfortable from the first moment we met. And the ever-flowing soju and beer helped too lol Highly recommended. So good that next time I'm in Seoul (hopefully in two months) I'll do this tour again!
- evelynmW7928ZR00Happy Belly, Happy Lifewe tried korean bbq mapo style for the 1st time and it was delicious! our great guide hannah explained the rules that you should follow with the drinking culture, so you don‘t mess up. second station with the makgeolli and delicious fritters was also great. and last but not least chicken and beer! YUM! happy belly, happy life😎 would recommend for everyone, who wants to start experience seoul with food and alcohol! especially when you‘re not sure if it suits you. it‘s best to come with the subway and on with an empty stomach.
- tatianasoe00Wonderful food and great peopleI decided to book this tour because I was travelling alone and read that going out for fried chicken and beer is usually done as a group. I had a fantastic time! It felt more like I was going out with friends than being on a tour. We were a small group (4 total) and ate so much good chicken, several different types. I am not a big beer drinker but I ended up liking the beer as well. I would absolutely recommend this tour, it was one of the highlights of my trip.
- familykcircle00Fun and delicious outingWe had a fantastic tour with Joe! Restaurant selection was educational, delicious, and tons of fun. This tour is a must do if you are interested in Seoul food tours. Joe is an outstanding host in a fascinating part of the city.
- abbyw58200Excellent graveyard and folklore tourI had a fantastic time on this tour! Shawn was a great tour guide and had so much knowledge about the burial practices, folklore, and information about the area and Korea in general. I loved the stories and the great range of graves seen in age, size, and importance. It was hot our day and a bit of a hike, but Shawn made sure we were all good and made sure we had water and such before we left. You can really tell they worked hard on making this a great tour to add.
- jessicavJ5636YX00Book this tour! No regrets!Fantastic tour! Prepare for a small hike, potentially through some over grown areas and some rocky/sandy inclines. Shawn is a wonderful storyteller and has no shortage of information! Definitely book this tour if you want to get out of the city, see some trees and learn about burial practices in Korea! Also highly recommend adding the chicken and beer to the end of your tour!

You get the best story telling experience on this dark stories tour. Shawn is expressive and very interesting, he tells stories of old and new Korean folklore/mythology. A final bonus is strolling through Seoul at night is extremely pleasant in August.

After hearing so many good things about the Dark Side of Seoul Tours I decided to finally get up to Seoul and take one with Shawn. The tour was wonderful. Jam packed with lots of really interesting information and of course tons of creepy stories along the way. Shawn is very knowledgeable and is a great storyteller so it made for an extra fun experience. Luckily no ghosts on our tour (at least that I could see). I would highly recommend the tour to anyone either visiting Korea or living in Korea who want to learn more about Korean history and of course folklore. Also the podcast is really great so after hearing so many different ones it was nice to take a walk in some of the places mentioned.

This tour hit the spot in making the most of a very brief stay in Seoul. Shawn did a great job of storytelling, explaining Korean folklore and reconciling the past with the present will all that is Korean. Tour was very well paced, he kept us on our toes, particularly on the front side of tour where he set the tone very clearly for what was to come (iLe. keeping the sensory on overload for potential sightings and experiences. For a grown man like me, I made sure i was NOT on the back end of that walking tour. , it was a lunar eclipse night afterall :) There were a couple of moments like the very first stop where I was on pins and needles waiting to be spooked. Very notable experience- Shawn was well versed, well engaged host for the night. If i did not have to catch a flight in the AM, i would have joined the extended portion of the tour. Im going to check my bags to ensure I dont leave with anything extra for sure! Thanks for fun time Shawn

I've been wanting to do this tour for some time now and I finally got the chance this week. The Dark Side of Seoul was great and Shawn is an excellent storyteller! The tour was impressionable for someone like me, who has been living in Korea for years as I got to know things I never knew before but it was also a great experience for my aunt, who as a traveller, was exploring Seoul for the first time! The tips on how to avoid some ghosts also came in handy. I would definitely recommend the tour to everyone who wants to get a taste of Korean folklore and see traditional, historic sights at night!

Shawn was a lovely tour guide, really enjoyed learning about Korean folk legends and mythology while travelling around Seoul. It is definitely a fun tour and interesting, and I am more intrigued about Korean history as well. I would say the tour is quite expensive and maybe could improve by making it more affordable. A lot of the customers were in pairs so maybe making a 2 for 1 deal would be helpful. Other than that, really had a good time and Shawn is helpful in providing advice on where to visit and what to do in Seoul and outside Seoul.

This tour is worth the time and money you invest in. Joe sets up a mood in the beginning and keeps you engaged and interested until the disappointing "well, that's it for today." And even then, he has an extra chilling story to share.
I can't come up with a type of person who will not be interested in this tour. You should book it once in Seoul and (I found it out during a tour) listen to the guys' podcast if you are not in the city yet.

This tour was already very interesting but our tour guide Shawn made it even better. We were originally booked for the shorter version of the tour but ended up extending it to the longer version because we were enjoying ourselves so much. He answered any and all questions that were asked, was very fun and easy to converse with. This took the tour from great to amazing. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone but especially those who have interest in ghosts, Korean folklore, or both. Thanks for an amazing time!

We had so much fun on this tour the other night. I've lived in Seoul for 13 years and have done most of the tours. I put this tour at the top of 'must do tours', along with the DMZ. Our tour guide, Shawn, took us down some streets and alleys I never knew were there. I was even able to impress my mother-in-law (Korean) with what I learned about the history of parts of the city and the Korean ghost stories. I found out my daughter's great-grandmother believes in the toilet ghost and still does the ritual before entering any restroom.
If you take this tour, I recommend the extended tour and even buying the comic. I plan to take the tour again with the other tour guide, Joe, in the near future. I'll try to report back on that tour as well.
I'm posting a picture I took from the tour. I'm not saying it's a ghost, maybe just a trick of the lighting. I was the first down there though. My friend thinks it's his shadow, but he was lagging behind at that point. I just found it odd and didn't see it in the other photos I took.

Highly recommend the Dark Side of Seoul tour. I thoroughly enjoyed our tour guide Shawn's approach to storytelling. It was refreshing to hear from a folklorist perspective as opposed to a theatrical perspective.
You could tell Shawn had a deep connection with the city beyond just the spooky.
I mentioned this tour to a local friend and they were curious to join, they had a wonderful time as well and even recognised some of the folk lore Shawn was sharing.
After the tour Shawn sent a detailed list of everything mentioned for future reference which I appreciated.
Highly recommend!

Hi, we'd really like to take the ghost tour this month, but there seems to be no available dates after the 8th of December. Are you taking a break/booked out, or is it a mistake?
Cheers.

I'm surprised they don't have availability. My only guess is that it is a small company of only 3 employees, mainly expats. Perhaps they are out of the country during the holidays?
