I generally do not go on group tours. My wife and I like to go out on our own or hire a private guide. On this trip, the group helped make it fun and when I fell, many came to my aid with bandages, gauze, and a bit of sympathy.

Our tour began at the Abraham Hostel in Jerusalem where we boarded a very nice bus. Exiting Israel was a bit confusing, but we made it and were welcomed by our Jordanian courteous and capable driver. Our tour guide, Abdullah, warmly greeted us at the Jordanian border and with our passports in hand did everything to make the process painless.

We made two stops. One was at Mt. Nebo where the Lord gave Moses a view of the Promised Land and where Moses might be buried. The Franciscans are caretakers of the site and have proven to be wonderful custodians of the site and chapel. Standing on the mountain and looking at the green of the River Jordan valley with Dead Sea on the left and Jericho on the right was very moving.

When we arrived at Petra it was already dark. Some of the group wanted to see Petra by night and Abdullah graciously accommodated them. My wife and I were tired and instead chose sleep in one of the comfortable tents at the Bedouin Camp. It is in a stunning setting and our tent was what we expected, rustic yet comfortable (well except for the mattress.)

Walking in Petra with all the carved sandstone buildings makes you grateful that the Nabateans took the time and patience to shape the building facades, had the expertise to bring in water, and build such a magnificent place in which to live. Abdullah walked with us to the treasury then set us free to explore on our own.

I can’t say enough good things about the tour. I wanted Petra to live up to my high expectations. It did, in part, because of this tour and our guide.

Lovely tour, our guide was very friendly and we had the opportunity to explore petra by ourselves. We got to stay in the desert, we went in march and it was freezing in our cabins but there was a lot of blankets in the bed. I had one of the best meals ever in the bedouin camp.

one thing that I was sad about was not having time to visit amman as described in the itinerary and on the border to get our visa was a bit confusing/took extra time.
A bit expensive but I would recommend (this was before pandemic hit hard)

I would have given the tour an "Excellent" rating. The transfer to Jordan, the tour guide and our bus driver in Jordan were amazing - as were the buses that transported us. The Bedouin camp was very nice, the food at the restaurants - all acceptable. The return to Jerusalem from Jordan, however, was unacceptable. We were placed on a bus that was in terrible condition - including paper stuffed into the overhead vents (I am assuming this was due to leaks). We were told not to sit in certain seats due to leaks and the smell of mold clearly indicated that the leaks were an ongoing problem that had not been fixed. Abraham tours should fix this issue as it leaves a last bad impression of the tour.

What an amazing experience this trip was! I have been wanting to do this for a while and a work trip to Jerusalem gave me that kick to finally do it. Me being a planner (both professionally and as part of my OCD-ness) researched a lot of tour companies and Abraham Tours received overwhelming positive feedback. Everything was very thoughtfully planned, from pick-up time and what to expect through the border crossing, to sleeping accommodations, dining, etc. Our tour guide while in Jordan, Yazan, was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and was very patient with our group and the hundreds of questions that were asked. During the tours he gave us plenty of time to explore on our own, which was greatly appreciated. From a scale of 1 to 10, the trip itself was a 10, but Yazan made it a 15! Would definitely recommend Abraham Tours, and thank you, Yazan, for sharing your amazing country with us!

The Petra tour, was amazing!! It helped a lot to have Mahdi as our tour guide, very knowledgeable person, helpful, always explaining and pointing the sites, the meaning, talking about the customs, and history. The Bedouin camp, dinner and breakfast was incredible, cold, but it was an experience, also like to mention the person that runs the camp and the staff were great! Petra breathtaking, no words for it “Amazing place”, explanation from Mahdi fulfilled our expectations. We were there for 5 1/2 hours not enough, as Mahdi pointed out you need at least couple of days to see everything. The lunch after Petra had great falafel! The rest of the way back to Jerusalem Mahdi, gave us a great explanation of what to expect at the border. Also like to mention the “Captain “, the bus driver who did a wonderful job!😃
Thank you Mahdi for a great tour!

We had a blast with this tour of Jordan! Not only do you get plenty of time to explore Petra, you also get to see and meet a lot of friendly Jordanian people as you eat at local spots and visit some important archeological sites in the country. You definitely get more than what you pay for. Also, our tour guide Mahdi was great! He paced everything perfectly, shared lots of valuable facts about Jordan, and had an answer for every question :)

The guide, the meals, the overnight camping were all top notch....was glad I went with the main tour Abraham. Was good value for money I thought.

I personally think if you have time do 3 days so you get to have a fuller day in Petra and try to do the night lights at Petra too .... hiking up to the Monastery is something you want to get to do for sure!!

Our tour guide Wally was absolutely amazing!!!!! These places really will take your breath away

Booked a Tour to see Perta with an association through Abraham Hostel website. The Jordanian Tour Guide Mah-ti and transportation Captain were excellent. What I enjoyed was how informed they were about the said areas: Dead Sea, Lots cave, Bedouin Camp site etc. It was astounding and I’d highly recommended this Tour.

Overall this is absolutely amazing trip, if your guide on Jordanian side is Mehdi then you are in total luck because Mehdi is fantastic, he will make your trip unforgettable, great personality and amazing guide!

Now, for those of you electing to stay in beduin camp - few things we wish we knew before the trip (March 2019):
- Get warm clothes. it's getting cold at night, really cold. and WINDY!!!
- Get pajamas!. although beds have sheets and pillow covers they haven't been washed since probably the New Years eve. we found lot of hair from previous tenant(s) all over the bed.. we ended up sleeping in our clothes and hoodies on.
- Get flashlight!! electricity goes off at midnight. restrooms are outside and you'll need flashlight to get there. there are very few lights on premises. luckily for us it was full moon. we found candle under our bed, so candles might be a good idea too!
- Get power strip: there' only ONE power outlet in the tent, and you can only change SINGLE device. there is a 'charging station' in the main tent where you can hang out after dinner, get free tea (delicious, but very sweet). there's also WiFi access point in the main tent. however WiFi goes OFF at midnight as well.
- Get thermos with hot water if you want to have some tea after midnight.
- Get external battery pack. you leave the camp right after breakfast, and there's nowhere else to charge your phones. Buses don't have charging ports!
- Bring your own towels!! you get free towels (if you ask for) from the guys but I wish I had brought our own. you can understand why..
- Bring shower slippers!!! showers and toilets are in a same building in the middle of the camp. the water is hot but not 'VERY' like someone mentioned here. the hangers are inside the shower booth and too close so I had to cover my clothes with one of the towels to prevent them to get wet.
- No morning shower: electricity comes back around 5:50am, right before the breakfast, but is not enough time to get hot water running, so don't expect to have hot shower in the morning. even cold water is barely there because there's no water pressure (generator is off till 5:50am). BTW, if you need to have #2 try to get up early, as like I mentioned, due to lack of water pressure you can't really flush the toilet properly.

However, there's no regrets and we absolutely enjoyed the stay at the camp! good luck!

Hi "kalevthedog" Thanks for writing your recommendations for the Petra Tour. Its great to hear that overall you had an amazing trip and found Mahdi to be an fantastic guide. The Bedouin Campsite is indeed a "camping" experience and does not have the comforts of a hotel. The campsite is simple and the electricity is run mostly by generator meaning that there are hot showers in the evenings but not in the early mornings. Regarding some of your other comments, we are always looking for ways to make improvements and we really appreciate your feedback. Kind Regards, Tay

I took the two day tour of Petra in Mid May 2018.
The Good:

1. We saw very interesting Roman Ruins, downtown Amman Jordan and Petra.
2. Our Jordanian guide was knowledgable and interested in showing us his country
3. The busses we traveled in were late model and reasonably comfortable.

The Bad:

1. The pace was rushed. I cannot imagine how hectic a one day tour of Petra would be.
2. The web site for booking needs work. I tried to book a single tent in the Bedouin camp but was unable to. In the confusion of departure I lost a custom made nightshirt which will be expensive to replace. Abraham Tours was unable to locate the nightshirt.
3. The meals were buffet style in hotels which were in the "industrial tourism" category: Service was rushed, tables crowded, food mediocre.
4. We were given an alarming full page hand out describing what could happen if the Israeli immigration officials decided to subject anyone to extended questioning after visiting Jordan. The rest of the group would leave forcing you to take a shared taxi for the several hours ride back to Jerusalem. This could potentially mean waiting over night for the taxi to fill with passengers.
5. Our guide told us before we arrived at Petra that we might be approached by locals offering to let us see their homes. To quote him: "If they ask me if it is ok, I will say yes because otherwise they would kill me but I am telling you now not not to go."
