Overview
Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple are two of Sri Lanka’s top sights, but impossible to visit in one day by public transport. This private tour from Colombo, Negombo, Mount Lavinia, Kandy, or Kalutara takes you to both in a day by private air-conditioned vehicle. Explore Sigiriya’s fifth-century rocktop ruins and visit Dambulla’s Buddha-filled caves, all with insights from your driver-guide, and with lunch and admission included.
What to Expect
Book your required tour option and after early-morning pickup from your Colombo, Negombo, Mount Lavinia, Kandy, or Kalutara hotel, make the roughly 4-hour journey to Sigiriya by private air-conditioned vehicle.

Marvel at Sigiriya Rock, a granite outcrop rising from scrubland areas that transform into water gardens during the rainy season. Then, climb the metal steps to the rocktop: home to a ruined fifth-century fortress. View the frescoes en route and explore the relics on the summit, the remnants of a royal citadel built by King Kasyapa.

After lunch at the Oakray Restaurant in Inamaluwa, visit the UNESCO-listed Rock Temple of Dambulla: five hill caves converted into a temple in the first century BC and filled with Buddha statues. Inspect the caves with their stunning wall and ceiling murals as your guide shares Dambulla's history.

Your trip finishes at the original departure point.

Nice views

The place is spectacular, but the queue is people to go up removes the desire, also sweating up having paid 30 dollars, gives you the feeling of better not having gone. The only thing that is worthwhile are the views from the top.

Don't need a guide, just show up!

We arranged a driver through our hotel to take us to the rock, but from the gates we managed ourselves. We bought the entrance tickets, had breakfast in the very shabby cafeteria at the base (would not recommend it, better to have breakfast before you...More

Well worth the effort!

Wear good walking shoes. I was comfortable in hiking boots. Toilet at base of rock and at tourist's car park (finish point). Take at least 1 litre of water or more, hat and sunscreen. Yes there are lots of steps and stairs but also plenty...More

Enjoyed visiting Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The garden at the bottom are really pretty. The metal stairs we had to climb were pretty impressive. Great view from the top. Warning: do not feed the monkeys and beware of the wasp nests! Yes the ecosystem is preserved...More
