- Quang T0 contributionsA must do to understand Cambodia’s historyThis was a well guided tour with loads of information. Sum Cheat was our guide and he did a great job of providing background information and historical facts. You can tell he was emotional involved as his own family members were affected by the regime. I came out of this having a profound understanding of Cambodia’s history and greatly appreciate that such tours exist so we never forget.Written December 3, 2024

- Quest228986832950 contributionsA must do tour with an excellent guideVisal was our Guide for this tour. This is one tour where the guide is front and centre, A knowledgeable guide is a must. Visal provided excellent commentary and very considered but balanced insights into the still Raw recent history of Cambodia. He stated the facts in relevant parts and gave us plenty of time to look at the 2 destinations in detail to consider and reflect. It was great to meet 4 survivors and to have the opportunity to buy their books. A must do tour, very sobering and made all the more worthwhile having a skilled guideWritten July 29, 2024

- Z5239JKowens0 contributionsGood tourOur tour guide Sum Cheath was great. He was very knowledgeable and the tour had a good pace to it for us. It was a really informative tour and we learnt a lot about the history of Cambodia. Hotel pickup and drop off was nice and the AC’d minibus with free water was needed in the heat. Shoutout to our driver too, Mr Tay. 100% recommend doing this tour when visiting Phnom Penh to understand the history of the country.Written May 2, 2024

- Barry C0 contributionsAn Extremely Important + Moving ExperienceOur Tour was led by BABOON - the PERFECT guide through this difficult and heart wrenching chapter in the history of humankind. The tour was: - INFORMATIVE. Baboon was an engaging and intelligent guide on the bus and during the visits of both the Killing Fields + S21. Full of knowledge, he was able to provide the necessary context and history around this dark period as well as deeper insights - perfect for both those without much background knowledge as well as those who are more across it. - BALANCED. Baboon sought to provide all this information in a balanced manner to allow the listeners to form their own opinions. At the right times (ie on the bus in between the heavy experiences), he provided insights and injected levity to the group as he shared information about Cambodian culture, daily life, attitudes, food + other things. - CONVENIENT. Very easy to organise through TripAdvisor (I booked it the night before in a handful of minutes). Hotel pick-up in the morning was available.Written April 10, 2024

It is a must visit while in Cambodia. Although it sent shivers down my spine to see the place and hear the harrowing experience of our ASEAN brothers and sisters that wiped out almost 3 million of their population, I think people especially the younger generation must hear these stories of atrocities and murder not to commit the same mistakes again. Our guide Visal Sem was very knowledgeable of history and a sincere story teller. The Killing fields and Tuol Sleng tour is one for the books. One of a kind.

We chose to do this tour as we were keen to find our more about what happened in Cambodia, we felt that a tour would give a more personal insight to the atrocities that happened in the not so long ago history of Cambodia. Mom was our private tour guide for the day and I could not recommened her enough! Mom is amazing, her English is fluent, we fully understood all the information she gave to us and it was clear that this was highly emotive and a personal subject for her. Throughout the tour Mom went above and beyond to share her knowledge with us and when the tour had finished she even got the driver to drop us to a lunch spot that she recommended as we told her we'd had some bad meals since being in Phnom Penh.
I highly recommened visiting as a tour, it is more expensive than doing the tour by headset but I personally felt you get more out of it. 10000% recommend Mom and this tour.

It's hard to find the right words to describe the subject of the tour - brutal and haunting don't begin to cover it. If you are visiting Cambodia it is essential and everyone should experience it.
The tour itself with Visal was excellent – one of the best tours I've ever experienced. The information was extremely well constructed and delivered, always engaging and easy to retain. It never lulled like a lot of tours can sometimes.
I'd recommend taking extra cash so you can purchase the survivor's books, and turn up well rested. Thank you for the incredible knowledge Visal!

Baboon was an excellent tour guide. As expected, this was an emotional experience, but Baboon made it even more memorable with his personal family experiences of the traumatic time. He was very knowledgeable with linguistic English skills.
He had a good communication during booking, arrived on time and the journey was comfortable in his AC van.

My partner and I enjoyed learning the sad history of Cambodia. Our tour guide Baboon was very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke good English and explained everything to us and allowed us to take ask questions. He also recommended good food places after the tour and dropped us off at the restaurant as we requested that instead of hotel drop off. He came to our hotel pick us up on time. Overall we both really liked it and would recommend doing this to anyone who is visiting Cambodia to do it at least once. He also shared his own family experience during those time and his mothers difficult time. We also got to meet 2 of the survivors from the prison and hear their stories.

I recently had the privilege of touring the Killing Fields and S21 Prison with an outstanding guide. From start to finish, their knowledge and empathy created a profound experience. Their storytelling brought history to life, and their ability to navigate these sensitive sites was remarkable. The insights provided were invaluable, making this tour both educational and emotionally impactful. I highly recommend this guide for anyone seeking a thoughtful and informative journey through Cambodia's history. 5/5 stars!

Baboon was an amazing tour guide. He was able to navigate emotions perfectly, enabling a light hearted enjoyable time on the bus but a serious and educational time at the locations. He made the tour feel very personal by relating stories about his mother to us. It was a very important and meaningful tour. He also helped me get tickets to my next city after the tour, a great guy!

The Killing Fields and S21 Prison tour is a painful but necessary experience when you are in Phnom Penh. It is a reminder of how fragile peace can be and a huge part of the Cambodian identity.
Granted the timing for the tour is pretty early (7:45am), my friend and I were grateful that the transport goes directly to your hotel to pick you up and the rest of the group, which is a manageable size of 8 - 10 people. The transport also brings you to wherever you want within the central area after the tour has ended.
Our tour guide, Baboon was engaging and informative during the tour as he recounted stories from his parents’ experiences during the Khmer Rouge regime which added a personal touch to the experience. My only gripe would be that the duration of the tour could be a little shorter as there were some repetitive information provided. I would also have preferred to roam around a little bit more on my own but that really boils down to personal preference.
Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this tour for a fuss free, easy going time as the basic requirements like transport and water are all settled and provided.

I was nervous about doing this tour as I knew it would be very upsetting, yet I knew whilst in Cambodia/Phonm penh I could not leave without gaining a greater understanding about what Cambodian people went through not so long ago.
Our tour guide mr baboon was truly exceptional, punctual, highly professional, warm, calm, passionate and very knowledgeable, with his own story about how the atrocities affected his own family, I was moved to tears listening to him speak.
At the end of the tour we were able to meet one of the seven remaining survivors who is now 93 and is there at the genocidal museum everyday, sharing his story in the hope that this will never happen again.
I would highly recommend this tour and mr baboon to everyone, it’s tough but important not to forget all the innocent people who tragically lost their lives here and all over Cambodia.

We booked this excursion through our hotel and the cost was $20 (plus entrance fees which totalled $6). The trip was very informative and an eye opener into the atrocities committed by the khmer rouge. The guides (Visal and Mr Cheath) engaged with our group, took the time to answer questions and explain the events that happened. They were genuinely very nice guys. The transfer to the killing fields and S21 prison was smooth and we were offered water throughout the journey. I struck up a friendship with Visal and he shared some great restaurant suggestions! Trip in total took about 4.5 hours and definitely worth it!
