More than we expected and an experience we will remember.
The 10 Tastes Tour of Hanoi introduced our group of six to a different side of Hanoi to which most tourists are oblivious. We walked around the Old Quarter, slipping between many small family-run cafes, sitting on tiny chairs and amongst cooking pots. There was plenty to see. We felt a part of everything going on around us, and we had the confidence to explore and discuss our thoughts on other travels and experiences in Vietnam with tour guide, Brian The Vagabond. He shared with us little bits of information relating to religious, cultural, and practical aspects of Vietnamese life and food. It really was like the name of the company - A Taste Of Hanoi - as the tour extend beyond simple food experiences. . We sampled 10 super fresh hot and cold dishes, green tea, and local beer that are uniquely Hanoi in their flavours. Brian is a passionate foodie, and his history of being a qualified chef encouraged us to try flavours and things outside our comfort zone, and they were super tasty. We had a coeliac on the tour, a person who was mad about fresh Durian, and a few who needed the comfort of fans in the stifling heat. Brian accommodated all our needs and answered our questions expertly. Of course the benefits are with finding some places to return to on your own. He really helped us understand each venue had opening and closing times, and why they had been chosen for the tour. The bites he chooses are unique and d high quality. We finished in a local beer hall and after running over time we parted with MỘT – HAI – BA– DZÔ and finished our tour, well satisfied we had ‘tasted’ Hanoi’s best.

    Vietnam War Tour
This was a really great experience and I learned so much about the city and its history that I would not have been able to learn otherwise. My guide was Ha, and he was super knowledgeable and friendly. He took me to many less touristy parts of the city, including some of his favourite places to eat for snack and meal breaks.

Excellent private experience - knowledgeable and local.
Our guide, Vu, was incredible. He shared a rich cultural history of Vietnam with us, had a thorough knowledge of the coffee and was enthusiastic to share the city with us. He took us to places we would not have otherwise wondered into. He was excellent and a great highlight of our time! I recommend doing this earlier so you can visit some of the cafes again before you depart.

    Unforgettable Weekend
Spent the weekend with A Taste of Hanoi and had an amazing time. On my first day, Minh took me on a full-day trip to Ninh Binh, sharing the country and the region's history along the way. It made for some really compelling conversation and great company, as well some unreal vistas - one after another. The second day, a very cheerful Son took me out to a local knife-making village to make my own knife with a master artisan. It was a fascinating experience to craft my own knife and be a part of a local tradition. Both tours were truly unique and I'm very thankful for the amazing guides that made this weekend unforgettable.

Knife Making - A unique experience
It was amazing to see the quality of the knives that our smith could produce from such relatively simple tools and surroundings. After helping make our own knives, it also made us appreciate the amount of work and skill that the smith applied to produce her (and finish our) knives. A real education, and fun as well. My wife, my 16 year old daughter and I really enjoyed it. The guide from A Taste of Hanoi was very friendly and helpful and the whole trip from pickup to drop off went smoothly.

    Great introduction to Vietnam
We did the Hidden Gems and Highlights three hour tour and a day trip to Ninh Binh with our guide Mr Vu. Our first time in Vietnam and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Really informative and a good sense of history and humour! Would highly recommend this company.

There are so many coffee options in Hanoi, this tour is a great way to experience different types. The last stop was exceptional. Our guide, Son, was so lovely and knowledgeable, and also answered all our neverending questions. I highly recommend this tour :)

Private tour: Awesome time which did not disappoint
We just completed a 10 day northern Vietnam tour with a taste of Hanoi. We had an amazing time. I wrote to Brian n outlined our destinations n he was able to plan our itinerary with surprises tours which I had not think to go. The coffee tour about the history of coffee, food n snack tour to alleys n taste food which we would not have even think to go. The scooter ride was amazing I highly recommend this tour. I was a bit sceptical about this when I saw the itinerary but thought I do it n turn out to be fun n v educational. Ha is a great guide We did a 3 day trip to sapa n an overnight on Halong bay n Ninh Binh. All v well planned. Food n accommodation is good too. Guides were Knowledgeable n helpful. Highly recommend to contact a taste of Hanoi for private tours.

    Five Great Cups of Joe!
Ha did a wonderful job on the tour! I loved learning all about Hanoi’s one of a kind coffee scene, the history of the different beverages and who invented them and continued their culinary traditions. Would do the tour again:)

My husband and I had an awesome private tour with Brian. He picked us up in the the hotel lobby with his driver( comfortable, safe car). I had requested that he show us the main highlights of Hanoi ending with the Old Quarter and that’s exactly what he did. Brian is American but has lived in Hanoi for the last 10 years and is an extremely fun and knowledgeable and passionate about Hanoi. We explored hidden alleyways and passages and he had lots of stories to tell. We had a delicious egg coffee, went on the highest roof top bar in the old quarter and had numerous small bites at various stalls including a yummy catfish spring roll, a fish-pork cake, a banana fritter and a doughnut. Plus wine and craft beer. At the end he took us right back to the hotel. If we had more time I would have booked another of his tours as it was so good. Thank you Brian for a great day - we loved it! ( we communicated on what’s app which was very easy)

We had an evening street food walking tour with Phuong Anh. It was a great decision to have the tour on our second day in the country because Phuong Anh took us to places we would have never found on our own and we tried dishes we probably wouldnt have dared or knew to try (like pancakes with worms, for example). Phuong Anh was great fun to walk around with and she told us interesting things about the city and its people. Some of the dishes she showed us became our favorites of the whole trip.
There was a lot of food and it was delicious, so come hungry!

Highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our time walking through the busy old town of Hanoi sampling local cuisine. Hi, our guide, was very personable, professional, courteous and fun. He spoke excellent English. We will all remember his mantra of "sticky rice" when crossing the chaotic Hanoi streets!

We visited a selection of small food stalls that cooked their produce and specialised in one particular item. We was sampled freshly cooked Vietnamese doughnuts with a mung bean centre, Bahn Mi (my favourite!), a variety of different noodles and steamed rice pancakes, not to forget the worm pancakes. Plus we tried the delicious Vietnamese Egg Coffee and Coconut Coffee. Everything was delicious and a great introduction, not only to Vietnamese cuisine, but also their culture.

My in-laws and I had an amazing food tour with Dung!

I want to start this review by commending Brian, the organizer, and contact, for creating such a fantastic tour for us. The communication is prompt and fantastic!

When we met Dung he greeted us with some fried dumplings (banh bao chien) and we instantly knew we were off to a great start! The next few hours continued with good food after good food...until we rolled ourselves into a taxi with full bellies!

Taste of Hanoi is a fab company and provides a superior tour...so stop looking at the other providers and costs and just book with them. We have now used them twice and will book again without hesitation!

Amazing experience! We weren’t really sure what to expect but we were recommended to do a food tour. Rose was amazing! So informative and happy to answer all of our questions. She explained all the dishes and the history and traditions that went with them in a very lively and enthusiastic way. Not to mention the food was so good and some of it unlike we’ve ever tried. I am also a vegetarian and my dad is not and she catered well for the both of us. We are both very happy full. Thanks Rose! You’re the best!

This review is more than just the Hanoi Food tour. Brian and his team helped with several things whilst we were in Hanoi which was the standout part for recommending A Taste of Hanoi.

The morning tour itself with Rosie was great. We hit about 6 different foods all within east walking distance. Don’t have breakfast beforehand!

Brian and team also organised the following:
A high end restaurant tasting experience
Transport to and from airport
And not to mention numerous tips and immediate answers to questions I had over 5 days.
Thanks team….I highly appreciate your responsiveness and ability to help with many things.

An absolutely wonderful journey with Brian! An experienced chef and guide for more than 15 years, over 10 in Vietnam, Brian knows the food scene in this town. In a Bourdain like extravaganza, we toured multiple unique spots around the old quarter. Each stop had an in-depth description of the specialty that we would enjoy, along with stories about the chef or restaurant. Our family of four throughly enjoyed this experience as we gained access to the inside scoop of what locals know.
The tour was really well planned as we meandered between 9+ spots. We will try to return to all discoveries he introduced to us. A very enthusiastic foodie whose passion for Vietnamese cuisine is infectious. A++

Our guide Rose did a wonderful job showing us around! She checked with us on our preferences and customized the tour based on what we prefer and have had before. She is also very knowledgable about Vietnamese ingredients and cuisines. All the food she took us to try was amazing. We had a little too much at the beginning of the tour so recommend sharing dishes among the group

Loved this walking foodie tour of Hanoi. Brian was an incredible host and his passion for food was evident from the moment we met. Hanoi really is a foodie paradise and I highly recommend this experience. Perfect final stop for coffee with view over the lake. If you do the afternoon tour I recommend you skip or have a very light lunch! Brian also did a great job of adapting the food to my gluten free diet.
