- ChristopherC8980 contributionsA good insight into northern Thailand history and culture.Nok, our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The experiences on this tour were very interesting and gave us a good insight into the history and cultures of northern Thailand. A really interesting day.Written March 18, 2024
- Von140 contributionsInteresting day viewing temple ruinsWe were picked up from our hotel in an air-conditioned coach and drove about an hour with some commentary along the way. It was an interesting experience, but a very hot, humid day walking amongst the ruins. We visited a few other sights in the area before driving to the river where we boarded a boat which served a delicious buffet lunch and cruised back to Bangkok, viewing many interesting sights along the way.Written March 16, 2024

- DavenDeb2220 contributionsMust seeIt was great to visit and we got to walk over the bridge, also went on a long boat ride which was a bit of fun, there is lots of food stalls and a market near by, when we were there around the 9th of march 2024 it was very hot and humid, so take or buy plenty of waterWritten March 15, 2024

- Explorer457446627450 contributionsAvoid Tour East ThailandDay 1, Our guide was called TOM, on return from tour which TOM slept a large part of to buffet evening meal @ The imperial Phitsanulok food cold no heat under containers, room below standard cracked sink bath area very badly stained , breakfast also cold no heat under food containers. Day 2, tour around National park our guide TOM spent the entire time speaking to a Thai couple so we were unaware of the history of what we were seeing and were never told on completion. TOM slept in between stops. Arrived at Teak Gardens hotel for evening meal to find that the hotel only offers breakfast so we were taken to a local restaurant at 19.50pm to be told we only had a few minutes to order as they were closing @20.00pm. Day 3 guide TOM complained toothache visited pharmacy had tour day . TOM slept for long periods of the journey Day 4 had a pleasant tour day through Chang Rai & Chang Mai, again TOM slept for most of this journey, arrived back to hotel being taken out to traditional kantoke food and tribal dance evening, we left to be followed out by 3 members of staff accusing us of not paying the bill our guide TOM was nowhere to be seen eventually he appeared and explained it was prepaid, we were embarrassed and humiliated in front of other guests in attendance. Day 5 we were dropped off at elephant nature reserve told to go in with a security guard on arrival we were again told to queue and pay and again TOM was no where to be seen so again we had to go outside to try and find him to explain that it was all paid for. We are appalled at the way we have been treated . We have complained to the TOUR EAST COMPANY they have accused us of deliberately trying to leave without paying for drinks, that we were being fussy about the food and that they provided us with free drinks as goodwill this never happened, and that they are not responsible for the tour guide sleeping on the last tour day due to toothache. TOM slept for most of our 1000km trip so we missed out on many sights along the way. On our last tour day 5 he did not even complete the tour he ended it after lunch so we missed the afternoon section of the elephant’s nature reserve As a form of compensation they insulted us by sending a bottle of wine complimentary to our hotel in Phuket. I STRONGLY advise against using this company if you are considering a tour in Thailand, they are both disrespectful and unprofessional .Written February 26, 2024

- reemasd20240 contributionsThailand experienceHave you ever been to a place so green and full of nature, well I sure have. Thailand is the most brightest country I have ever been to, there they care about the greens in body, the plants how green and colorful flowers are. Animals there are friendly and show love by hugs, like the monkeys there. The zoo staff are very kind and generous love to help in any kind of way, there are a bunch of animal shows like the one where I went to, the whale jumps up and back down into deep water. As he was going down deep in water splashed up and soaked up the audience which was very cool. I also recommend the Siamotif Boutique Hotel its one of my favorite hotels that I have visited in Thailand, best food and the pool was just as best, with the free floats that you can borrow to a little boat with your family and row until your hands get tired. The service there is also very thoughtful and helpful, they clean your room as soon as they get the chance to when you’re out of the room enjoying the view. I would rate my experience a solid 10 as it was one of my favorite trips and would love to come on here and tell you guys how astounding this trip was and hopefully for you too, well that’s all from my side. See all of you rowing.Written January 29, 2024

We always like to do a city tour wherever we go to get our bearings straight and this was a great way to immerse ourselves in the culture and city with loads of information by our guide.
Prompt pick up good air conditioned bus took us to loads of nice places with fantastic views and then to a nut factory and to top it all the biggest jewellery work shop and show room in Phuket, well worth it and not expensive and fantastic value. The guide though Gine was the star of the day. We booked with wotif.com

They say you get what you pay for....at AUD $12 for an almost full-day guided tour, you'd expect a catch....and, indeed, there was. The final stop - a gem 'factory' (really, just a large jewellery store for tourists) - was obviously the place from which our guide earned his keep - and, despite sticking with the awful saleswoman for a good 10 minutes before telling her I wasn't interested in buying anything, this was obviously a 'faux pas' (not to let her attempt to sell me crap I didn't want for an hour or two), automatically shifting the guide's amicable attitude to one of rudeness. After a few quite nice hours, left a rather bad taste in my mouth; will definitely go for quality over quantity next time!

Thanks for the review. I am a bit confused as we mention on all our literature, brochures, websites etc that the final stop will be the gems factory. It is your choice whether you stay here for 2 minutes or 2 hours as vehicles are available here to take you back at your request. T
Many guests appreciate to see the largest gem store and factory in the world, plus the opportunity to see how the gems are made, and be given a free drink in the Air-Conditioning.
You are mistaken when you say you get what you paid for. This 4 hour tour visits 2 Viewpoints in Phuket, the largest temple on the island, the architecture of Phuket town , the cashew nut factory amongst other places. I welcome you to pay AUD 12 dollars for another tour for what is included.
Your comment about the "guide earning his keep" is based on assumption and is wrong.
Thanks and regards,
Christopher

This tour is pretty basic - 2 lookouts, 2 shopping stops (cashew nuts and gems), and the biggest temple in Phuket. The tour guide, DJ, was pretty good - his level of knowledge and his English were both acceptable, and the driver was safe.
At the gem factory we swapped to another van and driver to be returned to our hotels and that trip was pretty hairy - the driver was in a big hurry and was happy to drop each of us off across the road for our hotels, rather than going to the extra effort of ensuring we were outside the hotel without having to cross the road (which is a whole experience in itself in Phuket!).
But overall it was fine.

Hi David,
Thanks for the review. However not sure how you mean basic.
You travel around the island with a private guide to the 2 best view points on the island one in Karon and the second at Promthep Cape at the south of the island.
Also included is the famous Wat Chalong Temple before heading to Phuket town centre amongst other stops.
I am sorry the driver dropped you across the road and this could be various reasons ie one way street etc however please do let him know on the tour and I am sure he will accommodate you.
Thanks for the feedback which is valued.
Regards.

Feb 2018 • Couples
The tour wasn't expensive so we got what we paid for!
The tour is only of the south of Phuket with 2 or 3 stops to admire the scenery. Our guide, DJ, was a friendly guy but he was too interested in making each couple pose for photos at each stop, whether we wanted him to take them or not! We would have preferred him to give us more information about what we could see, especially at the temple complex where he left us to do our own thing.
The "shopping opportunities" were a waste of time. Although it was interesting enough to see how cashew nuts are shelled, all the nuts we tasted had been coated with strong flavourings & were very expensive. We reached the conclusion that the cashew nuts we get from our local Aldi are much better!
And then to the "gem factory" where we did see a few artisans making rings but where smartly-dressed assistants tried to give us the hard sell. The show areas were beautiful with room after room of sparkling jewellery, making Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter look pathetic. BUT we made it clear from the outset that we'd no intention of buying, so managed to escape & sat outside for a while till the minibus took us back to the hotel.

Dear Guest,
Thanks for the review today which we welcome.
The tour starts in Patong Beach to the west and makes their way south to the cape which is the southern tip of the island. The guide is there to guide you and will leave you alone if you so wish or stay with you at any time during the tour. You just need to mention this to the guide on the day.
If he took photos for the other guests I am sure this was well received. I am personally not sure Aldi cashew nuts are the same taste as fresh cashew nuts which are shelled in front of you. The cashew nut factory is not massed produced however if you prefer Aldi then this is great!
With the jewelry factory it’s a great way to see how jewels are extracted and set and many guests enjoy this experience. Like any shop in the world we would not force you to buy anything. We certainly do not and never have! Many guests have asked to see the process and this is why you now have a choice to go in and have a look or leave immediately as this is the last stop.
Thanks for your comments,
Nick

Dear Leia,
Phuket Introduction tour is just that, a introduction to the island taking in the 2 best view points as well as driving round Phuket Town and visiting several stops on the way. Thanks for enjoying the cashew nut and factory as this is very interesting you are right.
At Tour East we own our vehicles so we like to keep the prices as competitive and low as possible for all our guests.
Thank you,

The trip started well with punctual pick up and great English speaking guide. Wound our way along the coast to Patong collecting other passengers and then onto the lookout point followed by a stop at the most southerly point of Island. Guide was very informative and helpful, he even offered and took some fantastic photographs of the group.
Onto big Buddha and then as we left it started to rain. By the time we got to Wat Chalong it was torrential. We were asked if we even wanted to stop. We did but we’re asked to be back in 20 mins. Disappointing as this was one of the main reasons we booked the tour.
Then onto a Cashew factory. Good stop and informative. Final stop was a jewellery factory. We were told we and another couple would be taken directly back to our hotels in the North of the Island afterwards. By the time we came out this had changed and we were asked to board the bus to go home via Patong. After querying this we were hurried onto the bus. What resulted was a trip of 1 hour 15 minutes, finally getting back at 4pm for what was a 51/2 hour day tour!.
We were at our pick up point at 7.45am. Our children had no lunch and we took none expecting to be back by 2.30pm at the absolute latest. Other than passing by a shop to buy drinks at 10.00am in the morning there was no opportunity to purchase food.
In all this trip started so well and the guide was fantastic, until it rained when stops were cut short and the trip overran!!

First of all, we apologize for your inconvenience caused. May I ask, was the bus that you were asked to board "Public Bus??" What was the reason the staff told you that they couldn't bring you back to the hotel?? Please help us to investigate quicker by providing us more details such as your real name, booking no., date of travelling to info@toureast.net and we will get back to you personally.

Picked up 45 minutes late although we were told by reception that they had rung & said they would be 20 minutes late.
Friendly lady who took the tour but we couldn't hear a word she was saying in the back. Driver didn't speak one word at all.
Enjoyed driving around & seeing various parts of Phuket whizz past fron the van window. The view point was great, amazing views. The temples were stunning!! Just enough time to rush around them to get back to the van in time.
Next stop was the cashew nut factory where there was heaps of free samples of both nuts & dried fruits. Our family had a sample of everything & were being followed by the sellers & given the evil eye, guessing we were EXPECTED to purchase but they are cheaper back home!!
Old Phuket town was the reason we took this tour but we went down the streets so so fast! Wish we had less time at the two factories & time to get out for photos or preferably a walk in the town. This was on the brochure, the factories were not so we were all really annoyed!!
Last stop was to a gem factory, the biggest one in the world they say. The wee cart ride was cool, the aquarium's with sharks were awesome but we were not at all interested in purchasing jewellery. We escaped as soon as we could without being rude then had to wait over 45 minutes for the others to come out, so so boring!!
Unfortunately we had a stinky smoker in our van & my daughter was nearly barfing on the trip back from the smell. She wasn't smoking in the van, just at each stop. Nothing the tour guide can do but just had being stuck in a van with them!
Got back at 2pm so it was almost five hours.
Would have rated higher if we didn't spend so long at the gem factory. I really don't think that people paying $20 for a city tour are their target market! Also if we could have stopped in Old Phuket town.

Every Tour group accepts singles, you will be made very welcome if you are friendly with the others & you can still do what you want not what they tell you to do. BE ADVENTUREST.

I went on my own couldn’t use the Viator site. I can’t remember which booking agent allowed me to book on my own (but I was the only person there on my own!). It was still heaps of fun.
