The sights were cool but it was mostly just a quick stop for a photo, a couple of minutes of info and then back on the bus.
The summer Palace is nice but again you don't have much time. The guide will recommend hiring the golf cart things to get around in time but unless your mobility is extremely impaired you will at least have enough time to walk around once.
The riverboat cruise was really nice and the food was great, much better quality than you'd expect from a buffet. The boat departs at something like 2pm which is why there's such a rush at the temples to get you there in time.
If you're interested in taking your time at the temples and leisurely strolling around then book another tour and do the boat cruise separately on a different day.

This was a great way to see a lot of sights in one day. You don’t get much time at each stop so you must move quickly to see what you want. While not the tour operators fault, time is wasted at the first stop while fellow travelers who are incapable of following the dress code are give time to shop for appropriate clothing. I fully admit that I was annoyed that my time was being wasted by people that can’t read or follow instructions. Rather than making the entire group wait around I would suggest that the guides point them in the correct direction and let those who are prepared carry on. All in all I will recommend this trip to see Ayutthaya, it was convenient, however, be prepared for a lot of time on the bus.

It was almost at 10am I reached Ayuttaya. Started seeing the ancient city remains which is at the Bank of a river, stunning view, it takes us back to the ancient era with Buddhist culture and values. The temples at Ayuttaya city has got its own charm and pristine view. Even though the weather was bit humid, it did not make my trip troublesome as there were enough trees and fresh air to cool the body and mind. The one activity you should not miss during your trip to Ayuttaya could be the Elephant ride, it could be pricey as in 400 Thai Baht, but its worth a one time experience. Do not forget to try the locally made sweet which resembles a crepe and sugar candy which you may find in all small shops in a plastic bag in rainbow colors. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip.. and truly recommend..

Started very early (6:30am) as they collected all tourists in a central location for onward journey to Ayutthaya. This journey actually began at around 8:30am. Other than that the trip per se was interesting and worth seeing.

Thank you for your valuable review. Understand your inconvenience due to time wasted by collecting all guests, we have to provide enough buffer time to avoid bad traffic during rush hour in the morning. We appreciated your kind feedback and thank you for trusting Tour East Thailand.

We had just three days in Bangkok and wanted to visit Ayutthaya, so this seemed like a good option to squeeze a lot in. Donna was our tour guide. Her English was pretty good and she was very informative on the bus about the sites we were visiting. However, we really would have liked to have spent more time at most of the sites. It is a very rushed tour. You get to see quite a bit, but there isn't enough time to do more than just a quick walk around at the stops.
Half of the tour is the return trip down the river by boat. There is a lunch buffet with the typical "meh" buffet food. The staff also seemed to be a huge rush to shut down the buffet ASAP--they were already starting to remove things as I went for a second round of food. It was nice to see the Bangkok area by riverboat, but 3 hours of it is quite a bit. I would have preferred that time to be put towards extra time at the sites we visited, with a more speedy return to Bangkok by bus.
It is an inexpensive tour and you do get to see quite a quite a few sites, but don't expect more than just a quick overview.

We could not have been more pleased with this day trip from Bangkok. We were picked up and retuned to our hotel in Bangkok. We made three stops at palace and temple complexes in Ayutthara. All were interesting with ample time of about an hour each. The boat ride back was great. The boat is modern, air conditioned inside, and very comfortable. The lunch buffet was really superb. Everyone was polite, kind and informative. The cost pp was about $65 or so which was very reasonable. I heartily recommend,

A friend helped us arranged Ayutthaya trip. It's our 2nd last day in Bangkok but my teenage girl wasn't ready to wake up early, so finally we left Bangkok at 12.30pm. Yes, one day trip is enough to cover the main ruins of the temples if you have a tight schedule. Both my hubby n I were rather excited with this tour n we looked around along our journey to Ayutthaya, we found that the ruined temples are scattered over a big area of Ayutthaya. The 4 wheel drive driver was v skillful n careful too but too bad he was unable to speak much English. The travelling from Mahanak to Bangkok was smooth n comfortable, we were glad that we did pack our lunch to eat while otw there so that we didn't have to waste time at the restaurant. Journey took abt 1 n half hours only. Visited a big temple n 2 sites of temple ruins. V amazing sights, kept imagining life during those times must be care free n pollution free. Took abt 500 pictures here. V satisfied w this short trip. Managed to rush back to Bangkok by 7.00pm. The trip plus our packed lunch only cost us 4000bht. Very reasonable price for the 3 of us. Glad that we were here n I'll definitely come back for a longer period if have the chance. Thank you to Thai Government for preserving this wonderful n amazing sites of the ruined temples!

This time my wife and I hired a professional tour guide from our hotel. We went by Minivan and it was a totally different experience worth the little extra money that we paid. We had convenience but we also had the benefit of listening to a professional tour guide who explained everything in detail and who answered all of our questions. He even acted as our photographer to take some great photos of us among the ancient ruins. It was a very enjoyable day.

Great day out. We were picked up by our guide from our hotel and taken to the railway station for a train that would take us to Ayutthaya. Unfortunately our guide got us to the station an hour early so we had a bit of a wait. The more interesting thing was that we all had to stand up at 0800 as they played the national anthem over the tannoy system.
The train’s air conditioning system was over efficient and we all had to put on extra clothing , hats etc.
When we arrived at Ayutthaya we were picked up by a tuk tuk and taken round the temples which were fabulous. After the temples we had lunch in a local restaurant which had a good selection of local food.
I had originally thought that this trip would involve seeing an old ruined city and not just the old temples surrounded by modern housing.
After lunch we were taken by long tailed boat to the summer palace which was well worth a visit. For less able people there are golf buggies to save the long walk.
From the summer palace we were taken back by taxi to our hotel.

Ayutthaya is a very cool interesting place, full of ancient and ruin temples. The place is a magnet for Thai tourists rather than foreign tourist. It is still very much old school Thailand, not spoiled yet.A couple of night food markets which are worth visiting Tuk Tuk driver would charge you £5 an hour to drive you around visiting the famous places. There are different entry charges for foreign and Thai tourists for instance 10 baht for the Thais and 50baht for foreigners. Only 70 KM from Bangkok and if you take the train from Hualumpong it would cost you about 15 baht (40 Pence)

we had a van pick us up at the hotel with 5 other people from another hotel. we were taken to a central location, where there was a tour bus. there was about 45 people on the tour, a driver, a tour guide. the same group went by bus out of the city and the return is on a river cruise which had a very nice buffet, and calm and nice scenery on the return trip.
Can i know how long is the tour?

Plan for at least a full day ( 6am to 9pm) which could easily be extended to two days depending on your interest in visiting some of the lesser known (but quite as interesting ) wats/sites. Its a good idea to read up about the features of the different wats and sites and plan with your concierge/driver about your priorities so that he can plan the route accordingly and avoid criss-crossing the town in a waste of time. The concierge at my Hotel Sukosol was excellent at drawing up a route plan. My driver just took me to the entry of the wats but after that either I was on my own or hitched up a local guide. Unless one reads up beforehand or has access to a good guide, the wealth of history will lie unappreciated.
