This was a wonderful day, and the highlight of my Morocco trip! Our guide Mohammad, affectionately known as Potatoes, really brought things to life with his passion and enthusiasm. The berber village we visited was his home, and the other travellers and I agreed that this gave it an extra special touch. We were not a solo group: there were about 12 of us in total, but I wouldn't let this put you off as the other travellers were really friendly and I actually really loved interacting with them.
The only complaint I can think of was that the "optional" lunch wasn't really optional, and it was kind of forced on us without our even realising it. If you would like to opt out of lunch like we did, make sure to voice this early and clearly, otherwise lunch will just be given to you and you'll have to fork over €6.
The little hike to the waterfall is lots of fun and full of beautiful views, and I wouldn't say it's tricky but would definitely recommend good shoes and maybe a companion whose arm to cling to. There are a few slippery spots (I ALMOST fell a couple of times) and two slightly ramshackle wooden bridges over streams to cross, although they're very short, just a few steps and you're safely on the other side. If you have legitimate mobility issues you'll want to think carefully about this part of the trip, but if you're just a bit lazy or clumsy like me you'll be fine. The stunning views and winding paths deep into the berber village make it worthwhile. It would be nice if the guide could allow a little bit of time to just have a look around the village at our own pace, and go to the shops/buy souvenirs, as I wanted to do this a few times but had to hurry along so that I wouldn't get left behind.
There are plenty of photo stops and you really don't spend that much time sitting in the car. Considering all the things we did and different environments we saw, this is above and beyond what you pay. The whole day just flew by.

Ismael did a spectacular job of showing us his village and the community he is from. This was by far the highlight of our trip. We had four little kids with us ages 7, 5, 3 and a 1-year-old. This trip is definitely not for the faint of heart, one thing that could be relayed a little more clear was appropriate shoes. You are going on an actual hike through Rocky terrain with uneven surfaces. We had no problems at all because we are quite active but there were a couple people in our group who came in sandals and it is not the best shoes for this trip. We had a wonderful ride with camels, saw the agafay, atlas mountains and the waterfalls. Ismael is deeply passionate about his community and sharing that knowledge with visitors. The berber community is greatly appreciative of all travelers and travelers should respect and be appreciative of them as well. A truly unique experience that is unique to Morocco. We had a wonderful lunch and even had tea at ismaels aunt's house. We again would like to highlight that you need appropriate hiking or sport shoes for this tour. Bring water. Would highly recommend for anyone interested in more of an adventure type excursion. Our kids absolutely loved it but we did feel a little bit unprepared for the degree of risk involved crossing the waterfalls on rickety handmade bridges, but again it was a truly wonderful experience that we would do again 10 times out of 10. But that is just our family. We could definitely see how other families might not be willing to attempt such a moderate to high difficulty trip. Be prepared to take a lot of pictures and be blown away at the landscape of the mountainous terrain and villages spread throughout the mountains. For those that are reading this over the next few months and years we highly recommend you take this tour before it becomes completely commercialized. The path to the waterfalls is quite narrow and allows for only a certain amount of traffic at once. We imagine in the future as development continues in this region and more investment is made this tour will be extremely difficult to maintain once it gets more commercialized. The pathways are simply too small and the bridges are too unsafe for high volume traffic until more investment is made to accommodate more foot traffic. But we are truly glad to have experienced this tour and would highly recommend to anyone. It was again our highlight of the trip, and that is saying a lot and given that we went many places in Marrakech area. Ismael give us the impression that he is one of the locals promoting his berber community and he does a wonderful job of doing that. He moves quickly through the hiking tour but definitely provides time to give explanation and background of the areas that you are traveling to and how important development is in his community. It is approximately a 1 to 2 hour zigzag van ride to and from the mountains so be prepared for that type of travel. But in the end the tour is absolutely worth every minute of the travel if you are traveling to this area. For us, this was on par with any souk or Palace you could see, if not more unique. Ismael, absolutely spectacular job.

Our tour guide, Abdelhadi, was very friendly and engaging.

The destinations themselves were a mixed bag.

The Atlas Mountains was a nice destination with a really nice (but small) waterfall at the end. However, be warned that you really do need moderate fitness to climb the last destination as it says in the description. There were a couple of older people in the tour group who really struggled to climb the steep mountain and were lagging behind. Silver lining is that Abdelhadi never abandoned them and gave the group multiple breaks so that the people lagging behind could catch up.

Lunch was a disappointment. It was not served at the desert like the picture makes it seem. Instead, lunch was served at a restaurant (which felt like a house) within the mountains. The food itself was Moroccan salad, Berba bread, Chicken tagine and fresh fruits. For 6EUR (additional cost to the ticket) this didn’t seem like bad value for money but the tagine was bland and a tiny portion (1 small chicken thigh per person).

The desert was as expected from the research. First off, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a Sandy desert like the edited pics on google or you will be severely disappointed. The sandy parts of the desert are 6 hours drive away from Marrakesh, so a day trip there is impossible. This area of desert is very grey with loads of stones/pebbles and dirt and no sand. The camel ride lasted for 30 mins and we were taken round a circle on a flat part of the desert (behind someone’s property). It was fun as a first time camel riding experience, but if you’ve done it before or you’re expecting a Sahara-esque environment, then this isn’t for you.

Overall, we definitely enjoyed our time on this trip. Plus given the price we paid (26EUR excl. food), we felt it was worth the money.

The trip was worth every penny
Well organised
Our tour guide was excellent, very warm, friendly and welcoming, Abdul Hadi.
He also gave us the history not the Berber village
First stop was breakfast in the Berber Village, which was homemade Moroccan bread with Moroccan tea (wasn’t expecting this so was a good extra)
It’s also an Argon oil factory, authentic Argon oil, made by the locals.
We invited to join in the making of the oil and even sang and danced with the Berber women.
Of course we bought some argon oil.
Next stop was the Atlas Mountains, breathtaking views as you drive to the Mountains.
The trek through the mountains as with other reviews, the first 10mins are the hardest, but it’s not an impossible 10mins, just that the state of the climb is steep, once you’re past that it’s a lot easier, the views amazing and the guide Abdul Hadi was always on hand to help if needed.
Definitely wear appropriate shoes (trainers or equivalent) don’t wear sandals it’ll make the climb a bit more uncomfortable.
Waterfalls is amazing.
Plenty of opportunity to take pictures.
Our guide was always on hand to take pictures for us too,.
Lunch in the mountains (an additional 6 euros)
Scrumptious and breathtaking views.
Concluded with a camel ride in the Agafay dessert,
It’s about. 30min ride, after a full day it was the right amount of time.
They dress you up in the head wrap and traditional clothing, it goes over your own clothes.
Moroccan tea is also served.
All in all a must do trip
Thanks to our tour guide Abdul Hadi

What a wonderful day, our trip from start to finish far exceeded our expectations. Before booking we were impressed by the excellent reviews. Our experience did not disappoint. We were met by our wonderful private driver Abdul. Our tour started with the camel ride, the lovely team of local Berber guys dressed us in traditional dress and took us all on a short trek, our guide chatted to us about the Berber people, gave us a couple of translations and took the most incredible photos. A short drive into the valleys we stopped a few times for photos, some locally shopping before arriving for a small snack of bread and oils at an Argan oil farm, where two local ladies talked to us about their tradition, history and production of Argan oil, (a nice stop to purchase a few items!). Abdul then took us into the valley, providing lots of information along the drive, we arrive at Imlil we’re we met our local guide Hamid, we trekked for about 20 minutes up hill into the mountains, we travelled with our two children (9&11) this was a manageable distance for them, Hamid was excellent and kindly arranged a trek suitable to their ability, for more able walkers then I believe you can go higher into the mountains/valley. We stopped at the waterfalls for delicious freshly squeezed orange juice (remember some small change for this). Before trekking a short distance through the valley for lunch. The local tagine was exceptional, our children (who don’t eat tagine or ‘yellow rice’!) ate every last bite, it was simply beautiful. Finally we visited Hamids’ house for mint tea with his mother, such a lovely experience to share with our family. Everyone involved in this tour are local Berbers and cannot do enough to ensure you have the most enjoyable day. If you are considering a tour in Marrakesh BOOK THIS ONE. We cannot recommend it enough.

Ishmael was a competent local tour guide who was fluent and knows the rich history of his hometown. Great guide! Wished we could have spent more time at the mountains. Lunch was amazing! Though the camel ride was slightly underwhelming, going with a bunch of friends made it really fun! We also stopped by the local shop where we met local Ber Ber women producing Aragon oil. My friends bought loads of stuff from the shop and left as satisfied customers.

This was an amazing tour and a must do in Marrakech! When you come away from the city to see the berbere folk in Atlas Mountains it’s remarkable. You hike , see waterfalls, each lunch in the mountains, and see native ladies make argan oil!!! The bonus is the camel ride in traditional garb. Your tour guide will give you history during your trek and you will feel enriched and enlightened by a part of Moroccan history !
Issmail and Ibrahim were excellent guides!

We were picked up at our hotel promptly at just after 9.00 by Ibrahim, who contacted us the day before to confirm the time.
We transferred to a comfortable minibus to join the other 8 members of our group and drove out to a camel farm for our first activity. We were dressed in traditional clothes and went for a relaxed ride in convoy. There was a stop halfway for photos.
On our return,we were treated to mint tea and biscuits and Ibrahim told us about the Berber culture and some of the history of Morocco and its peoples.
We went on to visit a typical Berber town which held its market on the day we were visiting We walked through the market, observing the fruit and vegetable sellers, people cooking in tagines, household goods for sale, butchers etc but no high pressure sales like the souks in the city.
We then drove on to a cooperative which produced Argan oil. They prepared some edible samples for us to try and we could try pressing it ourselves. There was no pressure to buy anything again.
We drove on up into the mountains, stopping at some scenic places to take photos.
When we arrived in Ibrahim's town for lunch, the minibus dropped us off for a short walk to his house, where the meal was served on a terrace. The path was steep but manageable. There was more than enough food, tajine and cous cous being served with salad and fresh bread, followed by fruit.
We had a long scenic drive to the desert after that, climbing very high and again stopping for photos.
We got to see a spectacular sunset before returning to the city at nearly 8pm
The schedule says 9 hours but we were out for nearly 11 and the time flew by.
A big thank you to Ibrahim and his trusty driver for a memorable day.

We are a family with three teenagers and for all of us this trip was a brilliant experience: From driving through the Atlas mountains to walking to the waterfall. The place where we had lunch had panoramic views and the food was really good. We stopped at one of the Berber villages and visited a traditional house to have tea. The best part of the day was of course the camel ride for which we got to dress as Berbers! Our guide Hamza was excellent, always very helpful and giving us lots of information. He even offered us the option to try the quad bikes (at an extra cost) which the teenagers also loved. Both Hamza and our driver Ibarhim were very friendly and made the whole experience really enjoyable. We highly recommend this day out.
