      ABSOLUTE MUST for families!
We HIGHLY recommend the Shaka guide audio tours! This is the second time we’ve used them for the road to Hana. The first time was 7 years ago when my husband and I were here as a couple. This visit we brought our 3 kids and they got SO much out of the audio tour! We are likely going to do another while we are on this trip it was such a hit! They are homeschooled so it felt like we were checking off a lot in the education department for the day and it kept them quietly listening in the backseat and not teasing their siblings! Haha! Win win!

      Wonderful audio tour
With this audio tour via car, we were able to see and learn way more than with a tour guide and bus! Fantastic!!! Maybe a little off in how long the trails are but truly great experience for us to move at our own pace.

      Great guided driving tour!
Kauai was beautiful -no wonder they call it the garden island. With only 1 day we hit ALOT of the suggested stops and loved the interesting history stories! When we skipped some stops the GPS caught up to where we were. Great directions and ideas for shopping and food too!

Worth every dollar! Would do again!!
So much fun!! These took us to beaches and sites that we would’ve never found in our own. Plus with other tours you have to go on their time, with this you can do it at your pace. Highly recommend.

      Fabulous Kauai guides!
I thought the maps and information were fantastic. There is no way of knowing about these facts, folklore and history without the guides. We were very impressed with the information and variety. We bought the full 4 pack for Kauai and even though we have been to the island several times, we learned more avout the history and found many hidden gems. Our favorite part of the guides was that the GPS tracking was right on point keeping up with exactly where we were to make the information available exactly when needed. We were all (4) very impressed. In fact, we plan on using g the Sedona guide in November when we go there! Thanks for doing such a great job and making our travels much more informed!

Great Audio Tour Experience on the North Shore
We love Shaka Guide! This was our second tour on Kauai with this app. The tours are entertaining and informative. You see places that are off the beaten path. We were in & out of rain the day we did the North Shore tour, but the views were beautiful. I wouldn't pass on the lighthouse, as we felt it was a must see. Just make sure to book your pass BEFORE you go, same with the state park. We had such luck with the Kauai tours, we are going to be using the app for some tours of national parks this summer too.

      Inconsistent and wasted time.
Inconsistent. Trouble getting started on one tour. Had to re-download one of the tours, entire process to determine what was wrong and reset took 30 min. The Kapaa tour failed. Tried downloading again and it failed. Again, wasted time, this time an hour. In my humble opinion, better software development would fix the issues we experienced. Advise against spending your time with these.

Frustrating. We so wanted to love these apps, but...
First up, the concept is great and when it worked it was fantastic. Loads of useful information, interesting stories - just what you'd hope for from a first rate guide on a private tour. The Shaka Tours narrator is a little hokey (which took a little getting used to) and it was a relief when we figured out how to turn off the background music. There's only so much ukulele music you can take. I have nothing but praise for the information and tales provided. BUT using the apps was a fingers in the eyes, frustrating experience. 1 - Mostly the tours run only one way, So, if you are staying in Lihue with a first slot of the day visit to Limahuli you can't run the tours clockwise. So annoying. I feel that this is the makers cheaping out. The content would be the same, it just needs running as a pair of apps. (Manually running the buttons was awful because many steps are a leading on to the next stop so it gets confusing really quickly.) 2 - Where you have crossing or looping tours the app gets confused and will flip you between legs. Wildly confusing as right becomes left and as you are 'trusting' the app you can quickly be baffled. On day one we learned to run Google maps on our other phone so we knew when we'd been sent wrong. The method of previewing the route is awful. Hard to get into, and zooms in and out depending on your activity state. 3 - The turn instructions are really dicey. They rely purely on GPS location (it would seem) so you get something like 'Turn right here" - which if you are on a 50 mph road in busy traffic may not be safe or practical. And keep in mind it will at times flip left with right as it seems to lose track of your direction. And joining the tours (we used 8 in our two week vacation) never worked once. Both these issues would be easily solved by just adding a little more information - it knows where you are - so, saying "Turn right just ahead by the mailbox (or whatever)" or join the tour at a fixed place - "Start the tour outside Safeway (or whatever)" would be so much easier. So, it it worth it. Yes. Would we buy it again. Yes - we bought one as a trial, then the rest of the bundle, then bought the Big Island bundle. Could it be better - oh, boy, it sure could. Bring your patience.

Great tours at a good price.
This (Kauai 4 tour Audio Driving Bundle) was the best $30 I have ever spent on vacation. Instead of driving aimlessly relying on word of mouth or travel books, a charismatic “Shaka Guide” showed us great views and obscure interesting sights efficiently & entertaining. Even the music was great. We recommend it highly.

      Fun and educational video tour!
The North shore driving tour was so much fun. We were able to see sites that we would never have known existed. The video tour guide explained so many wonderful things about the Island and the stories were fun and educational! I highly recommend doing the North shore video tour!!

      Driving tour of beautiful Kauai
This was a fabulous, inexpensive way to tour the beautiful island of Kauai! Narrator was informative and entertaining! Driving directions clear and easy to follow. Even included places for food and restrooms along the way. Highly recommend!

      Great, affordable, interesting tour!
We rented a camper and downloaded the driving tours to explore Kauai. We were highly impressed at the quality and depth of the narrative, the bridge music, and suggestions offered. We had a few issues getting started with the download but found live, courteous help easily though the app. It was overall easy to use and enhanced our short driving trip greatly. We learned so much about the history, geography and sites to see from this driving tour. Highly recommended.

Couldn't listen to this tour. Narrator was terrible.
I've used another guide app for past trips (Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Utah's Mighty 5, Canadian Rockies) and have always enjoyed it. I read the positive reviews of Shaka Guide, and I decided to give it a try for something a little different. Neither my husband nor I liked this tour at all. The narrator used a cheesy Hawaiian accent, similar to a 'surfer dude.' The stories were goofy, and the worst part was it was unclear when to turn off for a sight. After one day, I purchased the guide app I used for past trips. It's so much better.

      Enjoyed the tours!
We found the audio tour very easy to use…no problems with “turn here” suggestions coming too late to make designated turns. Maybe others were driving too fast? Anyway, lots of good history info we would never have had just driving around and the cost can’t be beat vs an organized tour group. I recommend👍🏻

Started the app in KaPaa area, based on prompts after downloading. It played music until we arrived closer to Lawai, the starting point. 1st stop it took us to a residential home address - very frustrating, since we didn't know where it was trying to take us. We finally found the Kauai Coffee Plantation, and went to that. No where near the residential address.

We then proceeded from there towards Koloa and some other places along Hwy 50 and 56. Some of the historical background information about Kamehameha was interesting. We stopped at Hanapepe and a few other towns that interested that weren't on the route.

It took us several times to turn at the correct road that would take us to Waimea Canyon. The app didn't direct us to the correct road until we were passed the turn...

Once on the correct road we did get some more directions to stop at turn outs to take pictures, but only a few of the turn outs were marked clearly. So needless to say we didn't see the waterfalls, we did find the smaller loop trail, and we never found the actual park entrance area that we were supposed to pay for admission to.

We did enjoy the scenery at the stops we did exolore, but this $20 spent really wasn't worth it for us. Sorry Shaka, not a good experience for us.

We absolutely loved the guide! We learned a lot of history and the tour guide was funny even though it was virtual. This was definitely the best route to go because you could spend as much time or as little time are you wanted at each stop! Bring your snacks for your little ones and they’ll enjoy it as well!!

We loved this app! We downloaded it & went through the audio tour. It was like having a guide! We saw several things that we probably would have missed without the tour. The stories and history as you drove were also very interesting. We liked it so much that we downloaded the tour for when we drove the north side of Kauai as well.

We rented a car which was very easy to do. Picked it up 2 miles from port. Took a taxi there but the rental car (NU Rental) took us back to port. We drove to Waimea Canyon and then worked our way down the mountain. Most ports of interest were on Hiway 50W . Nice easy drive. Whole thing took about 2 1/2 hours.

Excellent tour & guide! Very easy to set up & worked perfectly. Lots of information & driving directions were very clear. Terrific views though the day we went much of Waimea had heavy cloud cover so we missed some views. Obvs the weather is a factor so consider that but otherwise it was amazing! I recommend it for an overview of the island.

I must admit, I had my doubts about the whole concept of this tour… wrong again! We enjoyed the stories, the sighting recommendations and the technology involved in creating an accurate GPS guided tour. This was fantastic! I wouldn’t drive through the beautiful Waimea canyon without it! Am I right Brah?

    Great app!

You'll quickly figured out how to maximize the app, and I think you'll find it very enjoyable. You can go here or there and use it as you like.

Stories are fun, and interesting, and show you things that you'd otherwise miss. Well worth the cost! This was the second tour we did (and also did North Kauai). Don't hesitate to spend the money.

We only did the Waimea Canyon tour (as we did a boat for the Na Pali coast!), but I'd tell you that even if you are only going to use part of the tour, it still will be worth it to you.

Even if you are vaccinated (as we were), I’d recommend waiting on a trip to Hawaii until the Covid-related mandates are lifted, as they clearly diminished Hawaii’s “Aloha” spirit. Also, be aware that various amenities are missing and mask mandates are extensive, and extend even to the outdoors (truly, and in practice). You absolutely should not go if you are not vaccinated as most businesses will deny you entry.
