Marlon was friendly and kind. He picked my friend and I up at Jungle Lodge, and he was punctual. Further, we forgot to purchase special sunset tickets, and we contacted him the night prior, and he bought them for us! As soon as he arrived, we walked to lunch. After eating (there were vegetarian options), we entered the park. Straight away, Marlon was sharing interesting facts about Tikal, including the history of both the park and the Mayan city. He also has a passion for wildlife, and would point out birds and monkeys. He’s well educated, and has extensive knowledge of the Mayan culture. We walked all over the park, and climbed multiple temples. He brought us water and snacks, not to mention took loads of photos and videos of us, which he shared prior to departing. Overall, it was a very informative and interesting tour, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Flores/Tikal!

I love when you say “we forgot to purchase special sunset tickets, and we contacted him the night prior, and he bought them for us!” We gladly buy the tickets for our guests, those are not included because the price is different for guatemalans and for other nationalities, for children younger than 10 years old it’s free of charge, so in order to have a standard price for everyone, the entry fees are not included, but we are happy to buy those tickets for you and then you can reimburse us the cost of the tickets only if we use them, which means that if you also buy the tickets on your side, we’ll use the tickets we have but with other guests on the following days, since those are valid for 30 days.
Now We also offer tours in customized itineraries around Guatemala and Belize.

The sunset tour in Tikal was no doubt one of my best time in Guatemala and it was made so unforgettable thanks to Marlon and his wife, Evelin. On my day of tour, I took the 9am flight from Guatemala City to Flores and by the time I walked out of the arrival hall, Evelin was already waiting for me. The one hour or so ride up to Tikal was smooth. Conversation with Evelin was pleasant and along the way, she gave me information about the towns (El Remate, Ixlu, El Caoba etc) we passed by, which was interesting to listen.
At Tikal, Marlon took over as the guide inside the National Park. He was super accommodating, patient and knowledgeable. The 7 hours inside the jungles and ruins was made easy and super enjoyable. Marlon always knows his way through the complex ancient city, which seemed like a labyrinth to me. I learned so much about the history and archaeological findings about Tikal along the way thanks to him. He's also an expert in the local flora and fauna and showed me many animals and plants, which was mind-blowing. I came in a relatively low season, so I was the only one in the tour and by the time we finished the main sites, we still had around an hour until sunset so he showed me some relatively remote sites, such as the plaza of the masks etc, which can only be reached from the 'Jaguar Trail'. It was a very impressive (and more wild) trail leading to several recent archaeological excavation sites. We finished the day on top of the pyramid in 'mundo perdido', which faces the west and is the perfect spot for sunset.
It was a truly wonderful tour that I can recommend to anyone who wants to visit Tikal. Thank you Marlon and Evelin for making my visit to Tikal such an amazing experience!

a. On one hand, it’s great to get this kind of feedback from a solo traveler, because this is the effort we are doing, to keep all of our activities solo traveler friendly on the booking process guaranteeing no last minute cancellations or changing itineraries.
b. On the other hand, we will have total flexibility, if in case we visit all the monumental structures, we’ll take you to some of the remote areas if your level of energy is still up, Tikal is 222 square miles, so this place will always have something else to see.

I truly can't recommend Marlon and GEM Trips enough. He is incredibly friendly, smart, and it's obvious that he has a deep love, passion, and care for Mayan culture, Mayan history, and the site of Tikal. I'm a curious person and there wasn't a single question I had about the place that he couldn't answer in great detail. Before the trip, Marlon was very helpful with responding to a booking issue I had on my end and the day prior he reached out to me asking if I'd like to switch my sunrise tour to a sunset tour because that morning was going to be cloudy. It felt like he wanted us to have the best experience possible.
The pickup at our Airbnb was on time and very smooth and he gave us history lessons on the way. Lunch was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I was having some stomach pain (not from there, from days prior), Marlon told the staff, and they picked special leaves from a tree out front and made a tea that calms the stomach! They all went above and beyond what the tour required and it was cool to learn some Mayan medicine!
We went from temple to temple getting detailed history from Marlon. The sights were unbelievable. His route is really cool because he doesn't just take you straight to the great pyramid and leave. He takes you on a walk through the jungle while showing you many other ruins, paths, reservoirs, farm areas, and other sites that made Tikal what it was. He also has the eye of an eagle and spots tons of wildlife out for you from monkeys, birds, fox and others. He records what animals you saw and sends them to you! He has incredible knowledge of each animal down to their scientific names and how many teeth they have!
He also takes tons of pictures along the way to help make memories of you interacting with the site and not just posing for pictures. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this was one of the best tours I've ever been on in my life (and I have traveled all over the world, even have seen pyramids in Egypt and in Teotihuacan.) Bring sunscreen and some bug repellant, its hotttt. But its the jungle, what would you expect? Don't hesitate, go with GEM Trips and support local, small business while you are at it. We felt very safe the whole time and in good hands. We loved it! Thank you Marlon!

a. This is exactly what differentiates us, we what our guests to learn what was the city like centuries ago, when it was inhabited, our tours are like two tours in one, always respecting the guests limits and energy levels adding a touch of flexibility tailoring each experience to the desires of the guests.
b. That’s why we prefer to do only small groups and private tours, because in a big group, these kinds of things are not possible.

We did a private tour of 2 with Marlon to Tikal that was excellent. He worked us around the park to ensure that we had minimal or no other persons at the specific site at the same time we were there. That meant we were the only ones on the temple platforms and had the Gran Plaza to ourselves. Just as important as viewing the archeological sites is the wildlife in the park, and Marlon had the knowledge and instinct to know where to look and when, pointing out things that we would have easily missed. I know others have had disappointing tours at Tikal, so I recommend Gem Trips to ensure a wonderful once in a lifetime experience.

This tour was AMAZING! We mostly chose this tour bc of the late start, and I’m glad we did because it was worth so much more !! Roel was punctual for the pick up and extremely passionate & knowledgeable throughout the tour. He took us through a lot of short cuts and places I’ve never seen in the past ( I’ve been here twice before). The animals were unbothered by tourists, they had no problem with us being up close for photos. We climbed up the “Lost city” to view a beautiful sunset. We ended our trip with a fantastic view of all the stars! This is SO WORTH every penny ! I definitely recommend this tour and Roel as a tour guide !!

We don’t usually do tours but we were really glad we chose to on this occasion. Our guide Arturo was fantastic and had so many great stories and interesting facts to share. Tikal itself is amazing, but we felt we got a lot more out of it with this tour. We did the sunset tour, and it started with lunch before heading into Tikal, with good vegetarian option if required. I would 100% recommend this. Only thing to remember is you have still to buy your ticket on top so make sure you have enough cash on you. Many thanks!

I highly recommend this tour company! Due to multiple travel delays and issues getting to Tikal on 1/1/22, Marlon and his team were responsive, helpful and flexible throughout our journey. In spite of COVID/omicron, Guatemala in general and Marlon and his company specifically are taking all precautions to remain as safe as you would be at home. Actually, I found Guatemala taking more steps to remain safe than here in the US ( California). I was impressed. Having a tour guide in Tikal was the key to a successful visit. Excellent value for the quality of service. Book with complete confidence. Combine this tour with the Jungle Lodge Tikal, and you have an unbeatable adventure. I HIGHLY recommend spending extra to get the sunset tour...It was amazing.

Absolutely amazing. Marlon was the absolute best! He made the entire experience incredible, found so much wildlife for us, he took so many photos of us that were SO good. He was extremely knowledgeable about the animals, the temples, and the Mayans - I learned so much from this trip. He also made sure we were not in the full sun whenever possible and took us through the secret jungle paths to make sure we had shade (it is HOT out there).

Marlon runs one the very best tour companies I’ve experienced in all of my travels.
Total professional and very polite, intelligent and personable.
First he arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and dropped off at the Hotel and made sure that we were all set up and happy before he left.
The tour van was right on time in the morning to take us to Tikal. The driver was also excellent.
Eric was our tour guide in Tikal and we had a great day with him. It was as though he was part of the group. He was very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor.
I enjoy when people know their stuff and articles was able to answer all of our questions from an inquisitive group.
They then took us to a nice restaurant by a lake where we could relax, swim, shower and eat some very good food.
I highly recommended this company for a Tikal
your or any other tour in the area.

Watching the sunrise over the Canopy of Tikal was a magical and unique moment. Just before I had the chance to see a super starry sky in the dark night of the jungle and the Milky Way.
Walking in the obscurity, hearing the monkeys, birds waking up is a real privileged moment. We feel almost alone. After this majestic sunrise, time to discover the pyramids of Tikal. Until 10 am, there are few people, which allows you to fully enjoy the site.
Marlon is a super friendly and professional guide who made this experience even more special. In addition to his very good level of English, he has a lot of historical and cultural knowledge as well as knowledge about the fauna and flora.
The organisation is top-notch - no false notes! I highly recommend Gem and especially his Sunrise Tour. Muchíssima gracias Marlon por la experiencia!
