    Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau
Stop: 3 hours - Admission included
Be collected from your accommodation and transported in an air-conditioned minivan. Visit KL Auschwitz 1. Walk through the iron gate bearing the notorious slogan Arbeit Macht Frei, which means Work Sets You Free. See 22 brick barracks, which were prison for hundreds of thousands of victims of the Holocaust. The most chilling is block number 11, the so-called prison within the prison. Block 11 contained special torture chambers including dark chambers or standing cells where various punishments were inflicted on prisoners. The first attempts to kill people with Zyklon B took place in this block. The only preserved crematorium and gas chamber is located at the end of the camp.  After the visit to KL Auschwitz 1, travel in the minivan to KL Auschwitz 2 Birkenau. This part of the camp is 25 times larger than Auschwitz 1 and it was the largest of the death camps. Over 1,100,000 people were murdered here. Between 62 mostly wooden barracks first designed as stables are the ruins of 4 crematoriums and gas chambers, which were destroyed by the Nazis in an effort to hide the evidence of their crimes. End your visit at the Memorial and pay respect to all of the victims of Nazi's genocide.

Whistle Stop Tour
Dec 2019
The pick up with Royal Cracow Tours from Krakow town worked well, there was a film shown on the mini bus about Auschwitz which was excellent. However, we were a group of 40, far too many. In areas where we had to view in single file in narrow corridors, the Guide was leaving the building as those at the back entered and we lost contact with her. Our Guide gave short explanations and whisked us from one area to another. Frankly, she seemed quite bored. It is very busy in December, but compared with other Guides, we seemed to be getting less explanation and time to view. Auschwitz is unlike any other place you might visit in Europe, and to understand the enormity and horror, you need time to just stand and absorb what you are seeing. We did not get this, and I felt those who had not been before were not given enough information to absorb the history and atmosphere. I had visited some 15 years ago in September/October when it was far less crowded and got a lot more from the experience.
I would definitely recommend people to visit Auschwitz, it is a place that should never be lost to history, but definitely check the size of your group before booking.

it was terrible. inexperienced guide with too big of a group. ruined. she didn't even take us to the crematoria in Birkenau. if anyone is thinking about a tour use the official tour guys from Auschwitz museum only to avoid being ripped off as we were.

rushed tour with inexperienced guide / didn't take us to crematoriums in Birkenau
Jun 2019 • Friends
1. young inexperience guide who rushed us - group of 30! through Auschwitz I. at one point losing about 10 of us. no stories, just basic information that is provided in brochures and signed in each hut / exhibit. Polish guide who I guess was the approved guide didnt' speak english and any question we asked was answered by her in Polish and translated into English which wouldn't be an issue if the girl did actually translated properly. I am Czech so understand polish and when asked about soldiers accommodation she translated only part of what the polish lady told us (I told her). BUT the biggest "sin" that happend was that she didn't even take us to the remains of the crematorium in Birkenau - saying that it's hot and not safe. it was hot, VERY hot, but crematoria II and III were not even 100m from where we stopped the tour. I would 100% recomend to book Auschwitz and Birkenau via the official web (gets sold out well in advance) and I will never use Royal Tours again. might have been that tour guide was inexperienced - as when listening to other tours they were told stories and stopped at certain places for more info (hoss villa - she showed us, told us he lived there and that they hanged him in 47. and off we went. other tour guide sat their group down and spent time talking about who he was, what he did, etc etc. I felt we were just robbed of our money and rushed through like on a conveyor belt without being respectful to our quest for learning and to the suffering that went on there. shame on them. boo.
