Overview

Let a guide lead you around Auschwitz-Birkenau, a former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp located about an hour from Krakow. Now listed as a World Heritage site, the memorial offers a harrowing reminder of atrocities committed during the Holocaust. Afterward, your coach continues to the UNESCO-listed Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the world’s largest mining heritage museums.

What to Expect

Board the minibus or coach upon pickup from your selected hotel in Krakow. After a roughly 1-hour drive, you'll arrive at the World Heritage site of Auschwitz, the largest of six former Nazi German concentration camps.

On a walking tour, visit the administrative center called Auschwitz I, then get a sobering look at the barracks, gas chambers, and crematoria of Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Learn about the Nazi German occupation of Poland during World War II as your guide highlights conditions of forced labor at the facility that exterminated more than 1.1 million people.

You will then be driven back to Krakow for a short break in the city.

Afterward, board your vehicle for the drive to the Wieliczka Salt Mine. Part of the UNESCO-listed Wieliczka and Bochnia Royal Salt Mines, the site includes a unique collection of mining equipment showing the development of mining techniques from the Middle Ages to present day. Follow your guide on an underground trail that leads you through numerous drifts, galleries, and chambers where traces of mining activity have been preserved. Admire the chandeliers and sculptures carved from salt deposits.

This full-day tour includes a boxed lunch with a non-alcoholic beverage and concludes with drop-off at your hotel.

Having booked the tours in the UK, there was some trepidation as to collection and timings. For the Auschwitz tour there was an early start after an evening arrival in Krakow. We needn't have worried. The efficiency of the tours was incredible. Always on time...More
