Overview
Explore the waters of Hervey Bay in search of whales on a whale-watching expedition with the Pacific Whale Foundation. Board a vessel with seating options in both sun and shade, then head out to the watery paths where humpback whales do their migration and birth their calves. Listen to commentary and interpretations from certified Marine Naturalists and listen to whale communications on an underwater hydrophone.
What to Expect
Sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as you depart on your approximately 3 hour adventure from Great Sandy Straits Marina out into the waters of Hervey Bay in search of the humpback whales that migrate here every year.  You'll have a water-level "whale's eye" view of all the action, from mothers interacting with calves to competition pods of males competing for females.  You can witness a multitude of behaviors throughout your excursion (breaches, tail and pectoral slaps, etc.). Each excursion is a new adventure as you never what you'll see.  But there are certified Marine Naturalist onboard to provide expert commentary and interpretation of the various behaviors being exhibited, as well as a whale Researchewr gathering important sightings data for use in ongoing research.

Must do in Hervey Bay

There are so many whale watching tours on offer in Hervey Bay but this is the one to choose. We opted for this tour as all the profits are for the research conducted by the foundation and the focus was on conservation. We are very...More

Close up and personal with whales and fabulous commentary

We loved travelling it’s Pacific WhaleFoundation, a non-for-profit organisation that researches whales and also assists the whale population. Boat is small and comfortable and one has a vantage point from either side of the boat. A researcher and a naturalist were present to answer all...More
