          Wonderful trip to Akaroa
The trip was great. We had a wonderful time on the way to Akaroa with a few brief stops, one overlooking Christchurch. We stopped in for lunch at the Billy Hayes restaurant before the harbor cruise. It was a good lunch with only a few choices for entree but drinks were not included. The boat trip into the harbor and on to the ocean was the a highlight. We saw Hector's dolphins several times and even some small blue penguins. The boat captain was very informative. We had a great tour guide in Stephanie. She had so much great information to share on the tour. This was a great trip and highly recommended

          Wonderful tour
Great tour with numerous stops. Guide/ driver was extremely knowledgeable. Bus/van seats extremely uncomfortable and cramped. Loved the wildlife tour. Back in time for ship departure.

Excellent shore excursion with a fabulous guide
Packed a lot into our day, and even though the weather was overcast we enjoyed a lot of sights. Scotty the guide was brilliant. So knowledgeable with lots of information about the city. The information about the earthquake and city centre rebuild and the red zone areas was particularly insightful. The antarctic centre after lunch was a highlight and it was great to have 2 hours there as less would have felt too rushed. You could always have more time at a lot of places but as a shore trip from a cruise time is limited and I feel we got a good taste of the city. We took in a vewpoint, a lovely garden area, drove through a lot of areas with good sightseeing from the bus, and had almost 2 hours of free time in the city for lunch and exploring. Tour was very punctual and we were back with plenty (but not too much) time to get back on the boat. It was an excellent way to spend our day. If you get a chance to take a tour with Scotty do it!

Excellent full day tour to Arthur’s Pass!
I can’t say enough positive things about our tour! Carmen our guide and driver was excellent! The views from the train ride were amazing! Our short hikes were exactly the right length and difficulty for the group. The stop at Castle Hill was extraordinary! The sheep farm was a delightful experience! I highly recommend this tour! Thank you Leisure Tours and Carmen for an excellent day!

          Lots of fun all around
The whole experience was so much fun. The scenery was so beautiful and the wines were really good, even wines I don’t typically like. It helped that we had a really fun group as well. Highly recommend if you like wine and good views!

You just have to do this
Wow just wow. Stephanie our driver was wonderful and full of knowledge. Small group of 12 which was just right. The day was 830 to 530 but time just flew by. The lunch was lovely and the boat trip to see the dolphins, penguins and seals was magical. We had the best time. Everything was perfect. Even had a little nap on the way back as we were all so relaxed

          Amazing day
Stephanie was a lovely host, we had such a great day. As the weather was a bit cloudy she decided we would do the tour in reverse order so thankful she did. So we started our day by going out to Akaroa via the cheese factory, she was knowledgeable providing commentary along the way. We then had an explore through Akaroa and had lunch. We elected to not included lunch and just got some fish and chips from the takeaway. Then we did the two hour nature cruise. Finally we got lovely views from the lookout back over Christchurch.

Solid option to see much NZ beauty in a single day.
Tour was amazing! This was our first activity in NZ vacation, and it did not disappoint. If you're looking to see the majesty of NZ South Island landscape then this is a solid choice. I did drop one star because of the narrow seating in the mini-bus that was used to transport us home. If you're a small person then it's not likely to be a problem, but for larger folk you will quickly discover that the seat belt receptacles jam into your hip when sitting, and they can't be moved (at all). Kind of uncomfortable for a 3.5 hour ride.

Great 1/2 Day Experience in Christchurch
Visited 3 great wineries, plenty of tasting’s at each and an enjoyable lunch at the first winery. Would highly recommend this tour while visiting Christchurch.

          Great! But couldn’t hear…
I enjoyed the cruise and the lunch but I have to say on our journey there, I could barely hear our tour guide/driver. I could hear him at first, when he asked if we could hear him but then a couple of minutes later, I could no longer hear him properly. I don’t know if it was his mic or if he just got quieter as he talked but it was a shame. That’s the reason I didn’t give it a five.

Nice excursion; you'll appreciate a driver navigating the winding roads!
The day started with an on-time pick up from my hotel in Christchurch. Our driver/guide ("steerologist/interrupter") Tania immediately made me feel welcome and like I was in good hands. The scenic drive to Akaroa was absolutely beautiful but I appreciated that someone who was familiar with the long and winding roads was driving and not me. Of course Akaroa and surrounding areas are the highlight of this tour, but I think Tania was instrumental in making the day enjoyable, relaxed and safe. We got a glimpse of Kiwi life and culture with her anecdotes, jokes, and stories. She really was warm and welcoming and obviously proud of her country (and rightly so). I got the package that included a lunch at Bully Hayes. There was a preset menu for those on the tour, but the selections all sounded delicious (I enjoyed my grilled salmon). Tania walked us to and from the restaurant and the nature harbor cruise. She even gave us a tip of the best place to sit on the boat (great advice, which I've followed on other boat cruises since!) and gave us enough time to enjoy ice cream after the cruise. We stopped at scenic points to take pictures that weren't crowded with other tourists but were also safe places to stop. The nature cruise was amazing! We saw fur seals and the elusive Hector dolphins, the smallest dolphin breed in the world. The boat had a lot of people on it but it didn't feel crowded to the point that you couldn't move around to see different parts of the bay. The only slightly disappointing bit was the Barrys Bay Cheese Factory. Perhaps I read too much into the description from Leisure Tours that "a stop will be made at the Barry’s Bay Cheese factory, where you will get to sample some fine New Zealand cheese" because that was literally all it was -- we stopped by the store where they had cheese slice samples on the counter and we got toothpicks to try them. The cheeses were delicious, the shop was cute and quaint (I did buy a few things to snack on), the shop clerk was friendly, but it really wasn't more than that. Looking back, I don't think Leisure Tours was necessarily misleading in their description, but I think I had different expectations. (I was hoping/expecting that the cheese samples would at least include a short intro or description of the cheeses that were being sampled that day.) Overall, I still give this full day excursion into Akaroa 5 stars! And if Tania happens to be your guide, then that's a real winner. Thanks Leisure Tours and Tania (with an "I")!

This tour was a mixed bag. Yes we saw ONE whale and some dolphins, but I would describe it as an hour of whale watching crammed into a 10 hour day.

This was our driver's (Tania) from Leisure Tours first time driving the van and it showed. She was unfamiliar with the vehicle, drove at an excessive speed for road conditions and talked incessantly about things no one had any interest in hearing. Ane then repeated herself several times.

Once we finally boarded the boat, the captain, intent on getting us to the one whale before he submerged ran the boat at an unsafe speed for the ocean conditions. I estimate roughly 30% of the passengers were vomiting within the first 5 minutes at sea. The young children on board looked terrified as did their parents.

Following the actual tour, we had lunch (planned) and then waited around another 2 hours until the dolphin tour people returned to dock. This got up back to our lodging in Christchurch 2+ hours late.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Both our driver Tania and the ships Captain are both very experienced professional operators who have both been doing this job for many years. Tania has driven the tour vehicle you travelled in on numerous occasions and as a professional driver drives the tours at speeds suitable to the road conditions. On the day of travel all passengers were advised that there was a high likelihood of sea sickness and were given the option not to travel on the boat. You will see from other reviews on the same day from other experienced travelers that there are five star reviews for the same experience as yours.

It was a lovely drive up from Christchurch, unfortunately when we arrived the weather did not cooperate with us. Our guide was great, he kept us all updated and informed. Everyone in our group appreciated how he took such good care of his passengers. Guests were offered a flight seeing trip rather than the boat. We had a nice lunch in Kaikoura and time to walk around and enjoy a little of the beautiful town. We also stopped at a Vinyard on the way back for wine tasting. Even with the disappointment of a canceled boat ride, it was a lovely experience. I would definitely book with them again.

Brilliant experience, we saw two whales from a safe distance, which was cool and witnessed a pod of dolphins, which was amazing. My sea mad 8 year old was ecstatic. The captain was kind. She let my daughter listen to the sounds of the whales, such a unique experience.

I find it hard to hear the commentary and find them boring, but Mack did a great job. She was incredibly knowledgeable, naturally funny, and made the experience very enjoyable. This activity is a must do, and it's well worth the money.

I have rated this trip for the sheer professionalism and high integrity of this company. We were warned that the sea had a big swell and people could take a refund .most decided to go .There was big swell and this triggered one of the passengers to have what was probably a fit .The crew dealt with matter with calm professionalism. We returned to harbour to off load the passenger .who was fine along with a few others who had been seasick .We then headed out again .once in deep water the sea was fine the sun shining .But sadly only a distant whale sighting .I had enjoyed the trip anyway .But then there was an announcement of an 80% refund for the disruption we had had .Not many tour companies are that decent .so well done Whale Watch

My tour got cancelled due to bad weather. Despite the agency having no fault in regards to that, how things were handled was just wrong.
We were informed that the boat was not going to leave 1h after the departure from Christchurch to Kaikoura. We should have turned immediately around, back to Christchurch, resume the trip, save a lot of money in gas, and spare peoples' time, considering we knew what I paid for was not going to happen.

However, there were people on the bus who were going to do other activities! This was not just a whale watching tour. As a result, we were forced to continue in the bus all the way to Kaikoura, where we knew there was nothing to do. We lost the full day delivering other people to their tours.

Finally, upon requesting a refund, less than half of it was reimbursed, under the pretext that we had to pay for the shuttle! When during 7h of it we knew we it was not happening. So I ended up paying for a trip to deliver people to their tours.

This is a duplicate review! Rita Batalha travelled with us to Kaikoura on our Whale Watching Tour on Wednesday 22nd February. The tour departed Christchurch at 07.30 and during the course of the morning the the weather changed and the sailings from 10 am were cancelled. The cancellation came through at 09.40 when the group were virtually in Kaikoura. When the boats cancelled we offered everyone travelling an up upgrade to do the Whale Watching by light aircraft which many of the customers did. We also offered others the opportunity to travel again with us at no additional cost, again some on the tour took up this offer. The contents of this review is on the whole disingenuous. There were 15 people on the tour and only 1, Rita, expected us to turn around immediately and return to Christchurch. As per our terms and conditions which are clearly outlined at the time of booking the whale watch portion of the tour NZ$165.00 is refunded in full. Rita has been refunded this amount. Some consideration for the requirements of others would go a long way.

Honestly this tour was so overpriced and all we did was waiting around. If the boat tour was gonna be at 1245 checkin and 1315 depart time on the bus , we could have at least done the winery tour around the waipara region before going over instead having a close 2h lunch. Poor planning and disappointed cause we booked thinking the boat tour will be approx 1030-1045 and have time for the winery experience. The whale watching company also had a mix up and was seated in the heat for a good 15 mins. Thou not the tour operator’s fault, the additional waiting time just didn’t help the situation

The contents of the review is disappointing especially when everyone else had a great day, the weather was nice and the whale sightings on the boat were great. See the other 5 star reviews for the same day and decide for yourself.

I don’t know how this trip went as I wasn’t picked up for it.

I wanted to go on the 2nd feb but company changed date to 1st feb (fine) and in a later message changed the pick-up time to slightly earlier (also fine). Both messages confirmed they would pick me up from hotel.

5 minutes before pickup time I went to wait for them. I thought right outside hotel doors would be an obvious place. It was 7am so the street was virtually empty. They didn’t come at the given time. I continued to wait, messaged them via trip advisor many times and rang their office number. No one answered. I waited some more and then gave up after still not hearing back from company. Overall I waited right outside my hotel doors for around 50 minutes.

I didn’t hear from them again. They didn’t even apologise. I requested a refund through trip advisor and received it.

For sake of transparency, this is my second posting of my review as I felt I could have been clearer in my first one.

Kirsty booked this tour via a third party online travel agent, Viator / Tripadvisor for travel on the 2nd February. At the time of booking the tour for the 2nd February had not achieved minimum numbers so some alternative dates were suggested to ascertain whether Kirsty was available, should minimum numbers not be achieved and the 1st February was selected as an alternative date. This was all done sometime prior to the travel date. Subsequently minimum numbers were achieved for the 2nd February and the booking defaulted to the original travel date. Kristy could have travelled on the 2nd, however, a refund request had been made and the cost of the tour was refunded. There appears to have been some genuine confusion and if this originated at our end by suggesting alternative dates we do apologise.

Even though we were unable to go whale watching, because of bad weather our guide, Sally took very good care of us. Sally was genuine and shared interesting information. She is a good driver and made the trip enjoyable. We had coffee, shopped, ate lunch, went to a winery, and even stopped along the road to view a seal colony. Even though we couldn’t see the whales, it still was an interesting adventure. Sally made the trip worthwhile.

Very well looked after by our tour driver, Jude. She went out of her way to make the day even more special by stopping at a different seal spot! Just fabulous. Even met us after the whale watch trip armed with umbrellas as it had started to rain! The whale watch tour was magnificent and the crew were fun and informative - we were lucky enough to see 2 sperm whales!! A long but great day out!! Would definitely recommend. However, note to Trip Advisor to remove wording for possibility of wine tasting - there simply isn’t enough time and they know this.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review! Jude will be thrilled to hear you enjoyed the day. Wine tasting is a possibility if all passengers are whale watching. However if anyone has elected to do the dolphin swimming then we do not have time as this activity finishes later than whale watching.

We were told 1/2 hr before due to depart in catamaran that it had been cancelled. We were offered a flight to Wales instead. As it had been a 2 1/2 hour drive from Christchurch, and we asked if you got a clear view of the Wales which was sad as yes. We decided to go for the flight. Sadly it was a very underwhelming trip.
Although sightings of a couple of sperm whales and a blue whale, we could not see that you really could only see the shape of the whales and we even missed a couple by the time the plane had circled around.
Although it was a nice flight on a small aircraft, if you have done this before, there was really nothing special about it. I would go for a full refund which was offered, and go another day if you are able.
On the positive side, our driver here was a wonderful Spanish lady called Carmen , was absolutely brilliant. Her knowledge was amazing, she was very personable and made every effort
To make a trip as enjoyable as possible. There were four people that went on the flight and we were extremely disappointed.
I appreciate that there is no guarantee of the Wales, however, flying in a small aircraft which obviously has limitations to help closely, I thought was a wasted trip

It is disappointing to learn that you were unsatisfied with your day, especially after you were upgraded to do the flight after the boats had cancelled due to weather, at no additional cost and got to see three whales, especially the rear Blue Whale which you would not have seen had you been on the boat. I appreciate that you were disappointed that the boats did not travel, however, by your own admission you had a great day so to provide us with a 2 star review is somewhat underwhelming.
