What to expect
  • Make your way to the Steamer Wharf at Queenstown’s waterfront, and present your voucher for a cruise on the TSS Earnslaw. You have time to explore the ship during the cruise, and don’t miss the chance to head below decks to the engine room, where stokers feed a roaring coal fire. Explore the small onboard museum that's located in the forecastle, or head to the TSS Earnslaw’s café, where snacks and drinks are available for purchase. There are also dramatic views of the mountains that surround the lake, which has a maximum depth of 1,250 feet (380 meters) before making the return trip across Lake Wakatipu to Queensland’s Steamer Wharf, where this tour concludes.

A step back in time..
You can see why she's called the Lady of the Lake. She has a dignified feel about her that comes with over 110 years service. She is beautiful, inside and out. Hubby was very impressed with the 3 cylinder steam engine, which can be seen working from a viewing platform above the engine room. They serve drinks and lovely biccies and loaf from the on board cafe.

The trip across Lake Wakatipu was gorgeous. The lake was a little choppy but the boat handled it beautifully. The sights of the lake, the mountains and Walter Peak station were awe inspiring. Thank you for a wonderful trip!

Relaxing lake cruise
Nov 2021
We took the mid day cruise and had a snack on board. It was raining but not enough to deter you from the cruise. It was interesting watching how the steamship worked.
Staff were great.

Fabulous
We went for the evening cruise including dinner. It was a fabulous cruise and a fabulous meal. Beautiful scenery to watch on the way. The full workings of the boat are on display as the guys tend the engines. Polite and friendly service from the waiting staff. Sensible prices for drinks. The meal at the lodge was seriously impressive. 3 courses with fresh seafood cheeses cold cuts and olives etc followed by a range of freshly cut beef lamb pork and venison. Plus vegetables. The desert course was superb. And all can be requested as many times as your appetite can handle. Fantastic service too from Angelica. Peter the shepherd was very informative and gave a great display with Skye and Kim. We loved this cruisey evening and thoroughly recommend it to all young old families singles in fact everyone.

Good trip
Oct 2021 • Family
Great cruise on a nice day. We only did the boat ride. The food on the boat was nice, but $14 for a pie? Really? Glad we had some food before the trip, so didn't need to buy much. Otherwise a good experience.

Relax aboard and taste Christmas in July
Such a relaxing trip with spectacular scenery. This was the second trip we’ve done and enjoyed it as much the second time. It smelled like Christmas when we boarded, the smell of mulled wine enticed me to partake! Sipping mulled wine and gazing out of the window at the scenery made me bounce up and down like a hack rabbit to take photo after photo of the snow capped mountains interlaced with low cloud.
This is a really lovely trip which everyone should do at least once.

Lake Wakatipu best cruise
An iconic steam ship was a must do on our list of things to do and it didn’t disappoint. The views on Lake Wakatipu are majestic. The boat is loving well preserved and its really interesting to be able to see the mechanics of it all working from viewing platforms.

The Earnslaw Cruise & BBQ - definitely worth it!
Feb 2021
Really enjoyed the whole experience, being able to watch the crew and the engine was surprisingly interesting and the scenery as we headed to Walter Peak is stunning.

The BBQ dinner at the Station is truly gourmet and we couldn't fault the quantity or quality of the meal. We also enjoyed walking around the farm and the 'dog show' was also entertaining.

This was much better than I was expecting and I would definitely recommend it for everyone to enjoy.

An iconic Queenstown experience
Jan 2021
Just do it. I did the dinner cruise a while ago so went with the 90 minute cruise to Walter Peak station and back. It was a stunning day and very hot so the lake breeze and a couple of glasses of wine really helped. The Earnslaw and it's size and the ability to see how a steamship works is just as fascinating as it ever was.

Great experience
Nov 2020 • Couples
This was a grear experience. Would highly recommend jumping on board and going for the cruise. We didn't get off for the gourmet bbq, which meant we had the boat almost to ourselves on the way back - bliss! Great, friendly staff.
