Grand Tour of Christchurch Including Botanic Gardens Gondola Punting and Hop-On Hop-Off Tram
From US$90.46
Overview
Spend your time in Christchurch with tickets and transport to four top attractions. Enjoy a punt ride down the Avon River, a shuttle tour of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, a Christchurch Gondola ride to the Port Hills, and an independent hop-on hop-off tour of the city center aboard the Christchurch Tram. Visit the affluent coastal suburbs of Sumner and Redcliffs, or hop off at any of the 17 stops that showcase the highlights of New Zealand’s second-largest city. Hotel pickup is included.
What to Expect
See Christchurch in one day on a multi-attraction tour of ‘The Garden City,’ starting with pickup from your hotel by coach. Listen to informative commentary from your knowledgeable guide during the drive to your first activity: a 30-minute boat ride on the tranquil Avon River.
Begin your Christchurch sightseeing adventure aboard a punt — a classic flat-bottomed boat — which you can share with your companions while a punter in period costume narrates the sights along the shallow waterway.
Disembark on shore at the 52-acre (21-hectare) Christchurch Botanic Gardens, which you’ll tour by caterpillar, an electric-powered open-air shuttle bus. Snap photos of beautiful glass conservatories that house tropical plants, and hop off for a closer look at the extensive collection of native and exotic plants, including 250 varieties of roses, a medicinal and culinary herb garden, and more.
Next, your guide takes you to the coastal enclaves of Sumner and Redcliffs, passing the volcanic Cave Rock on Sumner Beach along the way. Then hop inside the Christchurch Gondola for a ride up to the Port Hills. Disembark at the Crater Rim for sweeping views over Christchurch, Lyttelton Harbour (Whakaraupo) and the Southern Alps.
Enjoy free time here for lunch (own expense), and see an audiovisual display that details the region’s natural and human history.
Your 5-hour guided tour ends when you board the elegant Christchurch Tram. Say farewell to your guide and embark on a narrated hop-on hop-off tour of the city center via heritage tram. You have the rest of the day to independently explore any of the 17 stops, including the Re:START shopping district — an innovative outdoor mall housed in designer shipping containers.
