What to Expect
Upon hotel pickup in Auckland, relax during the 3-hour bus ride to the Bay of Islands.  Arrive in Paihia and visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, where British officials and 43 Maori chiefs signed documents that led to the founding of New Zealand in 1840. Tour the Museum of Waitangi and admire the ornate carvings in the Maori meetinghouse. Transfer by ferry to the coastal town of Russell, where a 1-hour bus tour reveals highlights including the Pompallier Mission and Printery, and Christ Church—the oldest surviving Anglican church in the nation, built in 1835. Take in sweeping Bay of Islands views from Flagstaff Hill, then have free time to explore Russell’s shops, cafés, and art galleries. Have the option to include lunch when booking or to purchase lunch independently. At the designated time, return to your bus for the scenic drive back to your Auckland hotel.
