    Worth doing
The “free” part of this attraction is really just jewellery shops, the guided tour is the only way to see so much more. We saw the world’s largest solid gold coin, and some very large gold nuggets. You could pick up a 5kg gold bar, find out your weight in gold and strike your own coin. The finale is seeing a real gold bar being poured into a mould.

It was quite underwhelming, I didn't go on any tours , maybe that would have made a difference, it's rooms with coins and diamonds.

    Science Week Prizes
The Perth Mint generously donated a wonderful 1oz silver Quokka coin from its store to support our local school during Science Week. The winning students loved it and it was very much appreciated. Thankyou.

Nightmare, run around, not received my refund.
Purchased a coin set, absolute nightmare. Slow to process quick to take my money. Returned item for refund, was given the run around, made it difficult. Eventually requested refund, told I would be refunded in 5-7 days. That was 16 days ago. I have sent an email to ask where my refund is and have not even got a response. The admin sales girl is rude, she drags her feet and makes the process difficult and because I discussed my poor experience with her colleague she's not bothered to refunded me. How is this ok?

Ironic that they don't accept cash payments
I had never visited a mint before, so didn't know what to expect. I was underwhelmed by the Perth mint. All I was able to see was the shop, which had over-priced products, unless I was prepared to pay to do a tour. As a government institution, I would expect this to be open to all Australian citizens at no cost. As they refused cash payments (how ironic!), I refused to pay for a tour or make a purchase.

This was a nice find. We are visiting from the US and had recently arrived by train from Sydney. One of the other guests on the train suggested we visit the mint and we are glad we did. The staff was amazing...I'm sorry I didn't get the lady's name, but when we stopped by 3 hours early to ask about a local tourist map she offered to move our tour up to the one departing in 15 minutes! We had also asked for some lunch recommendations, specifically brewpubs. She had to think about it a bit (and had other customers) but as we entered later for the tour she handed us two. notes with details on two places she recommended. The tour itself was very interesting. Oscar was our guide and was very knowledgeable, funny at times and seemed to enjoy his work. He definitely kept everyone's interest all the way through. The displays and gold pour were also very interesting; I came away feeling a little bit smarter about the gold rush and historical events in Australia's gold industry. Well done!

The gold pour is worth seeing!
This was fun. Paul was an excellent and entertaining guide. The loss of one star is due to the lack of available toilets - just one, in the gate house as you enter. But the gold pour was really interesting. Definitely worth a visit!

    A golden experience
We recently visited the Perth Mint and what an enlightening experience it was! Although there is a fee for the tour, it's absolutely worth every penny and a must to see past the gift shop. The tour itself was brilliantly structured, offering a comprehensive insight into the world of gold, from historical nuggets to the modern minting process. One of the highlights was undoubtedly the massive gold coin – it's not every day you get to see such a spectacle! Equally captivating was the live gold pouring demonstration, where we witnessed the transformation of molten gold into a solid bar. This was both educational and mesmerizing, especially for the kids. Speaking of the kids, mine, aged 11 and 12, were thoroughly engaged throughout the visit. The array of old coins and various gold nuggets piqued their curiosity and offered a hands-on history lesson. It’s always a pleasure to see them enjoying and learning at the same time. Additionally, the staff at the Mint were not just knowledgeable, but also very hospitable. One of them recommended a pub just down the road for lunch, and it turned out to be a fantastic suggestion – great food in an air condition setting

    Essential tour of Perth Mint
Our guide gave us so much information in an interesting and humorous manner. The tour really gave us a much better appreciation than if we had just wandered around by ourselves. The highlight was the gold pour. Highly recommend the tour.

    Disappointing
Just a giant gift shop: extremely disappointing and not worth the walk from the CBD. Unless you join a tour you really can’t see anything.

Unique look at the Gold industry
A tour a must as so much to see and understand about the gold and other ground minerals. This is a look at the past present and future of the industry. Great display cabinets and opportunity to purchase gold nuggets !

    Waste of time
How ironic. A government ran mint that doesn't accept legal tender to pay for a tour. We walked out never to return. I recommended everyone else do the same, as if cash goes so will our freedom

    Many Mint treasures on display.
The Mint is another go to venue when we are in Perth. Abundant treasures on display but we had to be satisfying with viewing. Great to see so many tour groups and hear the enthusiasm of the guides. Probably time to partake in another tour next visit.

I was recommended to visit Perth Mint and take the tour by the taxi driver when I arrived transiting between Brisbane and London. I wasn’t sure I’d find it interesting but I was wrong. This is my first visit to Perth and my first ever tour of a Mint and it was fabulous. Madeline and Veronica made excellent guides. It was very informative but not overwhelming.

I enjoyed how it started outside in the courtyard, making our way through the displays, with the gold bar pour in between, and then finishing with the souvenir coin strike. The pour was of course the highlight of the tour but everything else flowed and fitted perfectly.
I appreciated that the tour guide spoke through a portable speaker as often you can struggle to hear everything they say.

Everyone was incredibly friendly and professional and their passion was clear and for $24, it’s excellent value too.

Interesting tour, staff all very friendly. Amazing to see a $1,000,000 actual minted coin made purely from gold!
The history of the WA gold rush era could have been a little longer with more stories but overall they covered it well.
The ‘gold pour’ was worth seeing, generating a gold bar worth around $700,000 in todays prices.
It’s less than an hour, priced reasonably and 20 minutes from the city centre.

The tour started outside in the courtyard where the guide provided an history of gold exploration in WA and history of Perth Mint. After that, we made our way into the building where you can see the biggest gold coin in the world (it will be lowered into a secured vault at the end of the day!!), more history via pictures, tools involved in gold mining activities and logbooks etc. After some time there, we then proceeded to the next room where you will have the opportunity to witness gold bar being melted, pour and turn into a gold bar! Towards the end you can use the blank coin received when you purchased the entrance ticket to print a souvenir coin. For kids, they'll provide a set of questions for them to circle the right answers as they go through the tour and submit them at the end of the tour to receive a 99.9% gold medal!! Highly recommended.

The woman at the reception called a Japanese staff member. However, the audio guide in Japanese was not available. You can only see inside the museum if you join the tour that starts at 30 minutes past the hour. The first exhibit was the world's largest coin, but the other exhibits were not very substantial. The highlight was the demonstration of melting gold and making bars. It was pretty interesting. The gift shop is recommended for those who want to buy gold or pink diamonds.

Hi there jeky007, Thank you for taking your time to review your experience. We do apologise that Japanese audio guides are not currently available for use. We will take your review on board and provide the feedback to our team. Yes, to have access to see the words largest gold coin along with the rest of the exhibits including the live gold pour, it will require you to join the gold tour. However if you just want to have a browse around the jewellery shop inside our heritage building, you are very welcome to. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the live gold pour and once again thank you for your review, much appreciated. Kind regards, The Perth Mint

This is a great half day out, especially on a rainy day. See the biggest gold coin in the world. See how much in weight you are worth gold, press your own coin. The best bit is the gold pouring display where a gold bar is created right in front of you. Our cute guy, Dakota was very knowledge and helpful, even if the weather worked against us.

This tour was very informative & interesting. The demonstration of the gold pour and the souvenir coin press was great. I would recommend this tour however there were a lot (too many) of people on the tour so it took a long time to get through the coin press and there were multiple layers of people trying to see all the displays.

While it is possible to stroll around some parts of the mint complex and just browse, the best thing to do is to pay to go on the escorted tour. Paul, our guide, was a real showman and gave a clear and detailed history of the mint building and the history of gold refining and minting in Perth.
I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone contemplating a visit to the mint.
No free samples, but you can stamp out your own copper visitation coin.

Clay was a fabulous guide - humorous and informative. She made this tour. The tour enables you to see gold being poured - not something you see every day - and the jewellery is amazing. The hugs gold coin is something else with the current gold price indicating the days' value - see to believe. The current commerative token is a nice tough. Interesting way to spend an hour

As a paraplegic and full time wheelchair user I phoned first to check accessibility. “Kelly” on reception assured me that the mint was fully accessible and booked me on an afternoon Gold Tour. I’m a small time numismatist and love history so this was a delight. Our tour guide Paul was a really good orator, had a good sense of humor and was clearly enthusiastic about his job. We learned about the history of the W.A. gold rush, the construction of the mint (completed in 1899) and many more interesting facts before going in to meet Fred who extracted from the furnace a crucible of molten liquid gold and poured it into a mould, making a 6kg gold bar. We were then free to wander around the museum, attempt to lift a real gold bar, see the largest gold bullion coin (literally weighing a ton!) and finally to press our own blank, making a wonderful souvenir coin to remind us of our visit; this year is the 125th anniversary of the mint and this was depicted on the coin.
The accessible toilets were excellent and the gift shop extremely tempting.
I saw Kelly on reception on the way out and told her how much I’d enjoyed my visit - such a warm and personable lady and like the other staff I met, an excellent ambassador for this superb bit of Western Australia’s history. So well worth a visit.

We arrived in enough time to be able to time our tour with the gold pour. As I was trying to purchase our tickets the lady at the kiosk was on a personal phone call that she just could seem to finish. It was awkward. We got our tickets finally and then waited a bit for our tour to begin. Our tour guide was Cal and he was the best! He had such a great presence and imparted all of the information regarding the history, the interesting tidbits, with humour and eloquence (well done to him!). We were the only two in this particular tour time so it was very personalised and informative. We were able to see the largest gold coin in the world as well as the largest existing nuggets of gold. You get to try and pick up an authentic gold bar yourself behind glass (which we couldn’t funny enough).

The best part was after the info tour, we entered into the forge area. Cal was great (and in his own words, “very courageous) and did his absolute best to prep us for each step that was to happen from the time he took the crucible out of the furnace and then to the mould for the gold bar. He dimmed the lights and then started. What a fabulously educational experience.

Afterwards you leave to explore a bit life on your own and can hop on a scale that tells you what you would be worth if you were made of gold. You can get on the scale and it spits out your value. Very cool. There is a souvenir coin bench that you can choose a coin and have it engraved to your specifications. Great little memento.

Highly recommend for families, children, and anyone who has ever wondered about the world of “gold” in Western Australia.
