- B2190SQpaulinew0 contributionsFabulous day outI persuaded some friends to become tourists in their own city for a change and we are all so glad that we did. We went on the Fremantle Explorer package and had such a great day. The cruise was wonderful, such a lovely boat with very interesting commentary. Never knew there was so much to know about our beautiful river. We got off in Fremantle, had lunch and a walk around and then returned to Perth on the boat. Dolphin sightings on the boat on the way home just topped things off perfectly. A great day had by all!Written March 18, 2025
- T6350HQjackiet0 contributionsOkay but nothing specialPretty crowded boat on the outward journey. Lovely staff, very helpful. Biggest disappointment was that the commentary was almost impossible to understand so missed a lot.Written March 10, 2025
- AshleeLu0 contributionsBeautiful few hours and lunchGreat staff, pre-determined tables which saved fighting for a ‘good’ seat. They are all good, plenty of outdoor space to catch some sun and air. Lunch food was delicious and plentiful. Staff were all so attentive and helpful. Only suggestion is to have a map up on all the screens of where we are, a live google map as it were. I’m young and couldn’t hear a lot of what the staff was saying about where we were or what we were alongside.Written March 8, 2025
- PeterT4100 contributionsMandoon - not impressedThe team on the River Lady were fantastic but the experience at the Mandoon Estate was underwhelming. We tasted 4 wines. There was no commentary, you had to read about the wine from a card on the bar, and generally you just didn't feel very welcome. Shame as it's a stunning locationWritten February 26, 2025
- vivnoaln0 contributionsGreat day on the River. We very much enjoyed the tour . The views of the Swan River from the boat were amazing. We enjoyed the commentary and the crew entertainment on the way back to the jetty. They had good voices. People were dancing and having a good time on the way back. The food was tasty and the wine tasting was good. Mondoon winery was picturesque. This is a great way to spend a day in Perth.Written February 21, 2025
- Flyer8230910 contributionsGreat nightGreat food, attentive staff and good entertainment along with a lovely cruise on the Swan. We enjoyed every minute of it.Written February 8, 2025
- Graham W0 contributionsExcellent food and wine boat tripLovely food tailored perfectly to our dietary preferences eaten in comfortable accommodation on board. The Swan River scenery is beautiful and the wines were well selected. The crew were attentive while serving food and drinks on the outward journey and very entertaining on the return journey.Written February 8, 2025

- 125LarryS1250 contributionsPleasant afternoon on the water!Very pleasant ride on smooth water with a bit of description of features we passed by. Boat not full so viewing was easy. Nice A/C inside. An OK ride on an OK river from Perth Quay to Fremantle & return. The phenomenon is keeping Swan River as part of the community—too shallow for industrial use. Lots of marinas & yacht clubs, wind surfers, small boats. Very pleasant afternoon on the water!Written January 16, 2025
- Road295188637920 contributionsAmazing!!! Highly recommendA huge thank you to All the amazing staff for such a wonderful experience. The views, service and food were outstanding. We had the most enjoyable day and will definitely be booking another one. Thank you so much.Written January 6, 2025
- RichardT5530 contributionsImprovements requiredThis review relates to the New Years Dinner cruise. Firstly the positives…..booking process was efficient and we were advised we would be seated in a semi outdoor area…no problem. Fireworks were excellent and food was acceptable. The negatives…. Boarding was slow, as the person boarding us had a list of boarders and the seating map, but it would have saved a lot of time if an alphabetical list of guests was available with the table numbers cross referenced, or even better…a simple cross reference of customer bar code to table number. The app on each table recommended for ordering drinks simlply did not work, causing frustration amongst the majority of guests, and the need to go to the bar to order. Not a real problem, except we were told we needed to use the App to avoid queues at the bar. The credit card payment system at the bar was unreliable. Fortunately I had cash but other guests were not so fortunate. There was no count down or commentary for midnight, which was very poor for New Years Eve. Fortunately guests improvised themselves. Simple improvements could make this a very memorable evening (for the right reasons)Written January 1, 2025
- jhgolden08070 contributionsSunny day on the SwanNice cruise with the right amount of commentary. There were some parties that were drinking a bit and loud, so it could be hard to hear at times, but overall nice experience.Written December 28, 2024

- susanclogsdon0 contributionsFremantle to Perth round tripWe were looking forward to learning about what we were seeing between Fremantle & Perth. The trip up the river toward Perth was pleasant. However, the commentary was difficult to hear. On the return to Fremantle, 3 Holland America Line excursions joined us & it got very noisy! (We are on the same ship!)Written December 9, 2024

A lovely relaxing way to travel between Freemantle and Perth. Beautiful views along the river with informative commentary from the skipper. Boat was clean, comfortable and excellent viewing facilities. Refreshments available on board too.
It takes you right into the heart of Perth where it is then easy to visit other attractions such as Kings Park.

Excellent way top see the river and the city. We travelled to Fremantle by train which is cheap and easy and then came back by the ferry. It was a lovely trip, and we saw a lot of the city and the environment along the river with a good guide talking about the trip.

The Friendship Force of Perth have just taken 15 visitors from the Friendship Force club of Western Tokyo on a great cruise down the Swan River to Fremantle.
We have taken oversees guests on this cruise many times and it is always a highlight of their journey to Perth.
Captain Cook Cruises always make sure we have a great time, they keep our visitors well informed through their great commentary and make us feel welcome.
We’ll be doing the same trip again in October with a group from New Zealand.
Thank you Captain Cook Cruises ……we’ll done!

If this was simply a ferry transfer from Perth city to Fremantle then I would rate it 5*.
However it is sold as a “tour” and as such it is useless. The boat is mostly enclosed and caters for people purchasing their lunch package. We did not include lunch and wanted to sit outside to enjoy the views. There are clearly insufficient seats nor space to accommodate all passengers making it very uncomfortable. The commentary provided was inaudible and no written version available which was the most disappointing aspect. Therefore it was simply an expensive ferry ride. Poor form from Captain Cook cruises. They should do better.

a big zero for not taking cash at your bar. After waiting 20 minutes (of a 1 hour cruise) in the queue, I finally ordered our drinks and found I couldn’t pay with legal Australian tender. then when I said I’d have to go and get a card I was told I’d better hurry up or I’d lose my place - so sorry to inconvenience you - good grief!

We were packed in like sardines in a can. The top bar was closed but didn’t matter as you could hardly get out of your seat if you tried. We did confirm on our paperwork that complimentary tea & coffee was included. This trip at $30 a head by 300 people would have been a very profitable afternoon for them.
We are left very disappointed and were told directly about poor drink sales on the day.
Their response stated that we were misinformed regarding the refreshments but paperwork tells a different story.

Good afternoon Colin G,
Thank you for your feedback.
We are very sorry to hear of your experience.
It does sound like you have some out of date information as tea and coffee is no longer included on the Perth/Fremantle cruises.
Would you mind please sending me your booking details so that I can speak to you personally?
Thank you Colin G - I can be reached at reservations@captaincookcruises.com.au

Not being a real fan of cruising, I was a bit hesitant to voyage from Barrack Street Jetty to Fremantle when my brother suggested it. However, my experience from start to finish with Captain Cook Cruises changed my mind and the experience worth it.
The one hour and fifteen minute, one-way journey to Fremantle, seemed to fly (sail?) by as we got to enjoy a unique perspective of the Perth Skyline from the water and took in unobstructed views of downtown Perth, elegant homes (mansions), parks and marinas along the Swan River all whilst listening to the Captains' detailed and entertaining commentary.

I think this cruise is excellent value. The Swan River is gorgeous and has a fascinating history; and the commentary gave the history in a succinct, informative and pleasant manner. The boat is comfortable, with fine views on both sides. I went at a quiet time; it might be less attractive at a busy one.

Having visited Freemantle several times before by road we thought a 75min cruise on the river would be a pleasant enough way to travel down & then return by train.
All started off OK with some historical & wildlife commentary but that descended into who has the most obscene amount of money to spend on mostly a ghastly architectural monstrosity, which means $$$ does not = taste. So glad I am poor.
No mention of the container rainbow approaching Freemantle but at least we were spared how many rivets were used in each bridge.
The bar provides a range of drinks, however, we were to find out that a flat white (a stupid description, I would like a short black or is that not PE ??) simply meant a coffee with a splodge of milk from the fridge, oh well it was not overpriced.
Despite this I would still recommend the trip, at some times maybe with ear plugs.

Very relaxing, most enjoyable. Staff were great. My sister has a walking stick, a bit of a stiff leg and slow but it was no problem. I made a mistake with my online booking but the staff were really helpful and no problem to change it.
