Highlights
Spot dolphins and admire the Jurassic cliffs on a 3-hour wilderness cruise
Self-guided tour of Port Arthur: visit the sites that interest you most
Hassle-free, round-trip scenic transportation by bus from Hobart
Great-value: morning tea, lunch, and entrance fees are included
What to expect
Make your way to Franklin Wharf to meet your guide for a 7:30am departure. Board your air-conditioned bus and set out on the scenic drive to the Tasman Peninsula, stopping along the way to enjoy morning tea (included) at a local café. Arrive at Eaglehawk Neck in Tasman National Park, where you will transfer to an open-air cruise ship and set sail around the peninsula’s rugged coast. During the 3-hour wilderness cruise, look out for dolphins, seals, and whales along the coast, and enjoy spectacular views as you glide beneath the towering dolerite sea cliffs, peer inside sea caves, and perhaps spot peregrine falcons and other sea birds swooping over the sea or nesting in the cliffs. Back on the mainland, stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s UNESCO-listed convict sites. After an introduction from your guide, you are free to discover the former penal settlement at your own pace. With around three hours to explore the open-air museum, see the guard tower, penitentiary, and tower cottage, and uncover the harrowing history of the site, which forms a key part of Australia’s convict history. After your Port Arthur visit, meet up with your guide for the return journey to Hobart, where your tour ends at the departure point.

It is the best trip I ever have! Great adventure.
Apr 2021 • Couples
I loved the cruise so much. It is the best highlight of the day. We've seen the beautiful national park from the Tasman sea level. Sea caves and the Rocks are amazing.

Pt Arthur Day Trip
Feb 2021
Late booking trip to Pt Arthur due to lack of hire cars on the Island. Booked on line with no hassles. Marni, our bus driver was excellent, well presented and very knowledgeable. Information was delivered in a fun manner where appropriate. Stop off at the lookout over looking Pirates Bay as spectacular. Great day. Would highly recommend.

A great day out
Feb 2021
We had a great day on this tour. You have the option of driving to Port Arthur to catch the boat or a bus will take you and bring you home.
We had the bonus of seeing a large pod of dolphins feeding. So good.
The staff were fantastic.
Highly recommend.

Book now!!!!
We went out on this full day tour today. Phil was our bus driver and Chris was our captain on the boat. Firstly, let me tell you about the service from this company - Phil and Chris both have wonderful personalities which cater to all age groups and both very good tour guides very informative and have you laughing as well. They are both a credit to this company. Now the tour, absolutely fantastic if you are wanting to see the best of Hobart in one day you get it all the peninsula cruise and port Arthur were sensational, Bucket list stuff!! On the peninsula cruise we saw so many dolphins and seals and the sights of the cliffs were out of this world my mother and son both gave the tour a 10 out of 10!! For the cruise I recommend taking a beanie for your ears and definitely a couple of layers because it can get cold. Port Arthur is just incredible as you only have a few hours there you’ve got to pick the parts of the settlement that you really want to check out. Morning tea was provided at the lavender farm, and we were served fresh scones, delicious. Lunch was also provided at Port Arthur and can I tell you, you get so much and it was so tasty and also bear in mind that you will be very hungry after the cruise. The next time we come back to Tasmania we will probably book this tour again as it was a wonderful day out for the whole family.

A perfect combination of nature & history on land & sea!!
Jan 2021 • Solo
Even though the weather was not the best, Phil, our driver went out of his way to make the day fun and exciting. We went to the Port Arthur Lavender farm, then the Eco tour, which was a bit rough but the ginger tablets you’re given at the beginning are genius!! We saw everything, sea lions, Albatros, Dolphins, and nature at its best!! Port Arthur was a very pleasant day trip with tour guides and golf buggies to ferry you around. Great gift shop, and CD a fun day out considering the history.........

The absolute highlight of an otherwise fabulous holiday.
Jan 2021
We met three amazing people on this trip; Phil, Angie and Andrew. They shared information about Tasmania’s history and geography that I was unaware of and excited to learn about - in fact when Andrew made a joke about seeing Antarctica if we stood up (at latitude 42) I suddenly thought of a new way of exploring angles with my primary school students.

Furthermore, I have never encountered more stoic, positive and professional crew. A wheel on our bus was punctured just as we entered Eaglehawk Neck, our driver Phil quickly sorted out a replacement bus and suggested a wander to see a statue of the dogs that famously guarded the narrow isthmus against escaped convicts. In the meantime our coffee stop was alerted to the delay and we made up time when the Lavender farm presented us with a takeaway package of hot beverages and warm sweet and savoury scones. It was impressive to witness how well this tour and its guides recovered from a challenge that was no fault of their own.

The cruise! We talked about it afterwards and agreed that it was the absolute highlight of our otherwise fabulous holiday.

My photos don’t do justice to the extraordinary views, but do try and imagine what it might feel like to zoom to within meters of Jurassic dolerite columns formed during the breakup of Gondwana, and muddy sedimentary cliff faces and caves. Or smell the colony of lazy male fur seals sleeping in the sun until the next mating season who have overrun Tasman island, where you can still see the loneliest lighthouse in the world.

These experiences alone inspired awe, however, our cruise guides, Andrew and Angie endeavoured to give us more! Their knowledge of the waters, and communication with other boats, meant they could seek out the marine wildlife. We watched albatrosses fish from a distance and were thrilled by three separate pods of dolphins, the last, a super pod of thousands of bottlenose.

And after all that, they dropped us off at Port Arthur for a delicious lunch and another far less glorious journey - although no less extraordinary.

It is no surprise that Pennicott Wilderness Journeys are so awarded and acclaimed. This day tour took its job of pampering, protecting and inspiring its guests seriously.

Awesome
Lily (or was it sophia) was amazing. She was bubbly at the morning 7am greet and knowledgeable about the island. Drew was a safe boat driver who took you to view the locals (dolphins and seals).

PACK WARM CLOTHES FOR BOAT TRIP!!!! We had a calm day, no wind, low 20⁰C, yet was freezing on boat with a hoodie + supplied waterproof. Extra layer needed!

Had plenty of time to explore Port Arthur site.

Food was decent (rolls, soup, choccies, apple).

Worth it.
