  • Hassle-free and great value: hotel pickup, lunch, and two teas included
What to expect
Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Port Douglas and a short transfer to the marina. Set sail for the Outer Reefs aboard a custom-built, snorkel-only vessel that allows you access to the remote outer reefs, including Agincourt, Opal, and Tongue Reefs. As you arrive at the first site, the crew goes through basic snorkeling techniques and helps you get suited up for your first snorkel or dive. Depending on your experience level and the tour option chosen, either enjoy swimming and snorkeling around the reef; join an introductory dive in a small group of up to four, accompanied by a PADI-certified dive instructor; or take part in a certified dive in a small group of up to seven, accompanied by a PADI-certified divemaster. Back onboard, have a tasty morning tea as you cruise to the second destination. Here, enjoy a second dive, take part in a guided snorkeling excursion, or enjoy swimming and snorkeling at your leisure. After working up an appetite in the water, refuel with a buffet lunch onboard before setting out for the third and final site of the day. After a full day at sea, enjoy afternoon tea as you take in your last views of the Great Barrier Reef en route back to Port Douglas. On arrival at the cruise port, a driver takes you back to your hotel.

The on line booking process was quick easy for a day trip to the outer reef for a 3 dive excursion as a solo certified diver with a companion snorkelling.
The boat trip to Opal reef was fast and comforatable even though it was quite rough (thanks for the Traval Calm!!) and the boat crew were friendly and efficient with well maintained equipment (looked very new!) The dive brief and solid attention to safety procedures was appreciated. Food was nice and a salad lunch and morning/afternoon tea provided (fruit and cake)
A big thank you to Pamela my expert dive guide - she was very informative and I felt perfectly safe in her hands so that I could just relax and enjoy the reef experience at my own pace.
A big bonus is the pick up and drop off to the hotel afterwards. (thank you Geoff!!)
I had a very poor experience with another large tour boat, but I would not hesitate to recommend Calypso reef cruise to divers and snorkellers looking to explore our beautiful Great Barrier Reef. Thanks to all again!!

Boarded this boat with my grandfather who I do a bit of shallow crayfish diving with in NZ knowing this would be his last big dive overseas.
Kelsey was our instructor and she was absolutely fantastic. After the first dive she recognised a bit of awkwardness for my grandfather with a few unfamiliar (updated) gears than what he was used to. She took him by the hand and lead him all around the reef whilst still taking excellent care of myself and the other divers.
She was called his guardian angel.
The rest of the crew on the boat were awesome and very informative.
Food was great!
If I could give more than 5 stars I would and recommend this boat to anyone!
Thanks for a wicked day Calypso Crew!!!

Excellent experience and very highly recommended. Calypso is much better value than Quicksilver, as you get to visit 3 places on the reef. Seb and his crew were amazing. They made everyone feel very welcome and took the time to share their marine knowledge. My husband and teenage daughter also did an introductory dive with Aggie. She was highly experienced, professional and kind. The food provided on the cruise was delicious, with a good quality choice of meats and salads. The boat was great, with lots of available seating. Excellent quality equipment was also provided on the day, in terms of wetsuits and snorkelling gear. Overall a perfect experience, with lots of time provided to explore the beautiful reef. Well done to all the Calypso crew!! We will certainly be back.

We had a great day with Calypso. We were lucky to go in quiet season with only 50 people on the boat instead of the usual 90 (the guide told me). The snorkelling sites were great with lots of Dorys and Nemos! Even saw some reef sharks. The guides instructions were clear and easy to follow. The food was also pretty good. Only thing is for the price paid I would have liked photos to be included, $20 for one photo on a USB is pretty steep.

We visited once before in 2014, and we’re really pleased to say Calypso is still a fun, chill, informative experience and well worth the money. It’d been a couple of years since our last dive, but Pam did a great job reminding us of the important bits and pointing out some fascinating sealife on our 2 dives including 2 lionfish! We also saw a small reef shark on our snorkel which was awesome. Thanks guys!

We booked Calypso for some diving whilst visiting Port Douglas, despite the bookings being quite, they still ran the boats to cater for customers that they had. Now the service and expertise is the staff is nothing short of exceptional, Skipper Cam knows his way around, boat host Seb is from Quebec and is hilarious, and makes the safety briefing fun.
Now the diving, we dove with Pamela, Brontë, Kevin and Rob, all I can say is wow. Thorough knowledge of the six sites we dived over two days, and made us feel noting but comfortable from myself as an experienced diver to my partner who did 6 introduction dives, she loved it and is getting certified as soon as we get home! Thanks so much to the whole team at Calypso, even the booking staff were nothing but warm and helpful.

Fabulous company and excursion.

We did the Dive and Snorkel experience over three stops. The crew had a deep appreciation & respect for the Great Barrier Reef and it was great to see no smoking, no drinking until you had finished your dives, recycling prioritised, great humour, diligence on cleaning and safety in a COVID world, a relaxed atmosphere, a great lunch, good equipment, and ... I think you get the idea that we loved it and felt we got true value for money and memories for a lifetime.

A big shout out to Kevin my son's dive instructor who was that perfect combination of professional and relaxed surfer dude!

My last review about this cruise company would be from years back. If you have time to scroll down, you will eventually find my old reviews. It’s been years since I last visited Port Douglas. And Calypso is my must go if I want to go out to the reefs.
Actually had rain in the morning before departure but weather turned better when we got to the outer reef.
Boats are still the same. We got placed on the snorkeling-only boat which doesn’t have top deck. There are still plenty sun spots on this boat.
44 people on board today. Plenty space on board. Good for social spacing. This is a smaller group tour than some other operators in this area.
Snorkel gear and wet suits all provided. So had no issue with jellyfish. Boat is clean.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea now were served prepared on a plate instead of buffet like before. I guess they changed because of COVID?
Crew were still friendly and easy like what I remembered. Gave plenty time for each snorkeling site. They never pressured guests to do or not to do anything.

We had a fabulous day with Calypso. They are so well organised. Everyone got fitted quickly and easily with flippers, snorkels and dive gear. We had a great introductory session to diving and they take you down in groups of 4. All were very cheerful and knew we were all a bit nervous but they made us feel comfortable. They kept the boat clean and tidy and we enjoyed a nice lunch. The photos were so clear so it’s well worth paying a little extra so you can bring that memory home. Thanks Calypso - it was a great day.
