Overview
Experience the natural wonders of Queensland’s Atherton Tablelands to visit different parts of the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest on this outdoorsy day trip from Cairns. With a guide, you’ll take easy walks to three waterfalls—Josephine Falls, Millaa Millaa Falls and Dinner Falls—and take a refreshing swim in Lake Eacham. See the Cathedral Fig Tree, take in views of the volcanic crater in Mt Hypipamee National Park, and enjoy lots of time for swimming and photo ops. Morning and afternoon snacks are picnic lunch provided
What to Expect
Your day trip to the Atherton Tablelands, part of the World Heritage–listed Wet Tropics of Queensland, starts with hotel pickups in Cairns by coach for the drive to the Tablelands, located about 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Cairns. After about an hour of driving, make a stop at the Cathedral Fig Tree, a large 500-year-old strangler fig tree with long aerial roots.
Drive onward into a pristine rainforest, where you’ll stop at Lake Eacham. Go for a swim in the volcanic lake, created more than 12,000 years ago, and watch for turtles in the clear water while your guide prepares a hearty morning tea.
After your snack break, head to Mt Hypipamee National Park to check out Dinner Falls, where you can go swimming again, and then take a 0.5-mile (800-meter) walk to a viewpoint to admire the crater. You’ll spot a jewel-toned lake as you look down at the crater rim, a dizzying 450 feet (138 meters) below you.
When you're ready for lunch, we serve a picnic style meal with fresh bread, salad items for sandwiches and a meat and fruit platter. We do cater for food allergies so let us know in advance.
Then head to Millaa Millaa Falls to take a swim in its natural tropical pool.
Your last destination, and the highlight of your tour, is Josephine Falls, which you’ll reach by taking a short walk with your guide. If you’re feeling adventurous, go down the ‘waterslide’ that drops you into a deep pool, or just relax and enjoy the scenery. You’ll also refuel here with afternoon snacks provided by your guide.
Your day trip ends with the drive back to Cairns for hotel drop-off.
Please note: This is a sample itinerary; yours may vary based on the road and/or weather conditions on the day of your tour.

Uncle Brucey appreciation post

We had the best day ever on this tour! Brucey the bus driver was hilarious the whole day ( and extremely informative about everything)! This tour is completely worth the money, we would’ve paid more for it for sure! Absolutely beautiful spots and amazing swimming!...More

variety of scenery, lots of waterfalls

We saw a variety and scenery and lots of waterfalls, all were easy to get to. The tour is heavily geared towards "backpackers" and not as good for families or older adults. Food was excellent. Convenient as they picked up at hotels and hostels.
