Overview
Explore the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef on a full-day tour to Fitzroy Island. After arriving from Cairns on a fast ferry, have free time to do what you choose: snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, lounge on the white-sand beach or see the coral from a glass-bottom boat. Upgrade to add the Activity Pass, which provides a picnic lunch, snorkeling gear, stinger suit, a glass-bottom boat tour, the use of stand-up paddle boards, paddle skis and a floating trampoline.
What to Expect
Make your own way to check-in at the Reef Fleet Terminal for the morning departure of the Fitzroy Island high-speed ferry crossing, which takes 45 minutes.

Located only 18.5 miles (30 km) from Cairns, Fitzroy Island lies within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Its protected coral reef offers excellent snorkeling from the beach and is home to colorful hard and soft corals, tropical fish, sea turtles and other marine life.

Spend the day as you wish, with options that include snorkeling, swimming and kicking back on the beach. The underwater world offers the rainbow colors of the parrotfish, clown fish darting in and out of anemones, and many other marine critters. On land, you can follow hiking trails through the rainforest and along the coast.

Upgrade to the Activity Pass, a cost-effective option that includes the use of snorkel gear, stand-up paddle boards, paddle skis and a floating ocean trampoline, plus a glass-bottom boat tour and a delicious picnic lunch. Depending on availability, you can use water floats and other gear for children, making this a family-friendly way option on the island.

At the end of the day, return on the ferry to Cairns where your tour ends.

Best island day trip from Cairns

OMG - beautiful, stunning, the snorkelling and view across the sea at Nudey beach are phenomenal. Relaxed vibe, although we didn't stay, the accommodation looked comfortable and the pool was great. Will return again!

We had a great day today going to Fitzroy island. PROS: The snorkel trip is $35 and worth every penny. Phil is a biologist and was an outstanding guide. The snorkeling is by far better where the trip takes you than around the public access...More
