Departing Cairns, sit back and gaze out the window at the remarkable scenery on the Captain Cook Highway, approaching Daintree National Park. Cross the Daintree River via cable ferry and connect to the Bloomfield Track. This scenic journey won't be marred by your need to focus on maps, navigation, or directions, since your guide takes care of the driving.
Stop for lunch en route, then continue before visiting the Lion's Den Hotel, one of the Queensland's oldest bush pubs, and then move on to Black Mountain to learn about local aboriginal beliefs and legends. In Cooktown, opt to visit the James Cook Museum and spend some free time exploring before heading back via the Mulligan Highway, the outback of North Queensland making a stop for an evening meal (own expense) at the Palmer Riverside Roadhouse.
Optional: Return to Cairns via a 45-minute flight with aerial views of the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree coast.
