Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 214debbic0 contributionsGreat experience! This was a wonderful tour! Steg took great care of us and showed us great scenery and a very fun day! We had some snow, some sunshine and some wind but they just added to the experience!Written March 18, 2024
- jackjoyf0 contributionsGreat tourWhile we were definitely the oldest couple in the group and we had never been on a snowmobile before, my husband found it easier than he anticipated to drive. Sig was very attentive to the group, always making sure everyone was following and had no trouble. We were provided with very warm gear so there was no getting cold. He led us to a frozen lake and eventually to the plateau. The scenery was gorgeous! I highly recommend this tour.Written March 14, 2024
- RizaJ_7310 contributionsFinnmark as its finest…Stig was amazing - very knowledgeable, kind and patient. We quickly learned how to drive a snowmobile under his guidance. Trail was breathtaking. Definitely recommend!.Written March 7, 2024
- julianpW4515RS0 contributionsAmazing tour with a super nice tour guide! It was just amazing! You get nice warm clothes (jacket, pants, shoes + socks, gloves, helmet..) and the tour guide is super friendly and does a great job! He will explain a lot about the area and people. Driving the snowmobile was also a lot of fun. We booked single driver and it was very nice to drive your own snowmobile the whole tour. The tour itself provides you with stunning views about the Finnmarksvidda plateau and Alta area. Would highly recommend!Written February 17, 2024
- Roving341452518460 contributionsPure Arctic joy.A complete and so informative night excursion Northern Lights. Stig is from Alta and knows a lot about his area as well as everything you need to know about the Aurora Boreal and where to find it. A perfect night.Written February 2, 2024
- StheG0 contributionsSnowmobile ExperienceSig is a delightful Alta local, and leads a wonderful personal experience in Alta. We took the 6 hour snowmobile trip and had an amazing time experiencing the beautiful countryside. We travelled 60 kms, with a stop for coffee and waffles at the half way point. The gear he provided is top notch and we were comfortable and warm despite the snow and wind. Highly recommended.Written January 30, 2024
- Christine45800 contributionsFantastic TourThis tour was fantastic and the lights even came out to play Diamela and Stig were really friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that this tour was small and in a mini bus which made it more personal . We visited 3 locations during the 4 hours we were out and Diamela and Stig knew exactly where to go to get the best view. The hot chocolate and danish pastries were much appreciated Would thoroughly recommend booking this tourWritten November 22, 2023
- kwintend20170 contributionsReally nice trip!Stig is an amazing guide! Not only did we do the entire route and got some amazing historical information on the Sami but he even took some time to show us Alta canyon. Definitely a strongly recommended trip.Written April 4, 2023
- kjharpercolorado0 contributionsGetting Away in StyleAlta Adventures gave my friend and I a spectacular day out to the high mountain plateau on snowmobiles. Neither of us had ever been on one and I was a little anxious, but it was a glorious experience. We got so far away from everything and rode across frozen lakes and sparkiling whitle tundra to a Sami camp. There we had coffee with waffles doused in cloudberries, cream and cheese. We were able to share trails with mushers and take in the true beauty of Finnmark. There were a few stops for photos making it a perfect day out. They fitted us in jackets, boots, gloves and helmets--so no need to worry about gear. Stig and Diamela were excellent hosts and completed the experience with photos and a video. I highly recommend this excursion to anyone!Written April 4, 2023
- happyyani20160 contributionsAbsolutely stunningly beautiful trip, excellent organisation, very friendly owner and staffThis is the best trip we’ve ever done. If you do any trip in Alta book this. Stig the owner and Stein his assistant were excellent, gave very good instructions on how to drive the Snowmobiles. They were very easy to use, with heated hand and thumb grips. Provided excellent clothing, gloves, helmets and boots. Gave us a briefing where we were visiting, showing us on maps where we were travelling to and explained the topography. Stopped several times to show us a Sami summer camp and a very beautiful canyon, I believe the deepest in Norway? and a frozen river. I cannot describe the absolute beauty, it is stunning. We were blessed with a beautiful cold, clear sunny day. We drove onto an high mountain plateau, over a frozen lake, watching folks Ice Fishing. We went to a cabin for hot drinks and beautiful waffles, with jam, cream and cheese. The drive was 30km each way, absolutely unbelievable beauty. This trip is stunning, don’t be put off driving the Snow Mobile, it’s easy, you start of very slowly.Written March 24, 2023

- mmtdrw0 contributionsTake the Alta Adventures Snowmobile outing. You will love it!Stig was an amazing guide, leader, and teacher for 3 never-before snowmobilers. We had a perfect day driving through forests, fields, and across frozen lakes to a remote hut for coffee and treats. Our hostess was charming as was everyone we met through this amazing journey. We highly recommend this trip with Stig, who owns Alta Adventures.Written March 16, 2023
- RosaliieB0 contributionsSnowscooter adventureA very cool adventure on the snowscooter. My friend and I were the only ones on the trip, so Stig even went on a little detour to show us Alta river valley. He told us a bit about Norwegian and Sami culture, and we had a great time. Would absolutely recommend.Written March 9, 2023

- MouradC0 contributionsSpectacular and super friendly tour! This is one of the best snowmobile tours I have ever had the pleasure to do. Yes the Finnmarksvidda plateau is spectacular, yes the sceneries are breathtaking but most important élu it is the way the whole is organized and tun. It is a family business and it felt like a private tour even though we were 7. We were first greeted by the lovely Diamela that helped us get into our gear. We felt already like home with her. Stig our guide for the day exceeded our expectations. He run his tour with passion. He stopped along the way to allow us to take photo and explain a lot of things related to the Sami culture and the surrounding sceneries. The coffee break mid tour was great. We have a really nice and informative discussion. Felt like talking to a friend. I won’t make spoilers here but Stig went the extra mile and did what no other snowmobile guide would do to make the moment memorable. I can’t really recommend enough!!!! Got for it! You won’t regret. What we regretted is not booking the aurora tour with them. That must have been spectacular in a secret place only them know. Thanks again Diamela and Stig!!!! You made us want to come back again to Alta… see you soon hopefullyWritten February 24, 2023

Virtually no information shared by travel guide on the bus. Nothing about the science of the lights, the folklore, human history. There was light pollution from nearby houses. Dropped off onto a sheet of ice. No gritted walkways. Extensive cloud cover forecast for that night. Not a hope of seeing the lights yet they continued with the trip regardless. I accept that seeing the lights were not guaranteed and we had seen them elsewhere the night before - we weren’t disappointed by the lights. We were dis appointed that we paid so much for what was just a bus ride on an excruciatingly hot bus.

Hi Paula:
On 5th of November we had no guests named Paula, so are you sure you were in our minibus? However, the conditions were difficult that day. The KP-value was OK. But the weather-forecast said cloudy, with a chance of opening a bit later in the evening, towards the coast. So we went there, but sadly it did not open good enough to see the lights.
We guide about the lights and local history. Based on the interest in the minibus we try to find a balance in how much we speak. If you had too high temperature in the bus and had problems with icy walkways that is not good. Even if we are not sure that you ordered with us, for the future we will have an extra focus on this. Please double check if you gave feedback to the wrong company and we would be happy if you could contact us directly.
Best regards,
Stig and Diamela

My friend and I recently did this tour with Diamela and Stig. I wasn't sure that we'd need to get away from the city lights to see the Northern Lights, but I have to say, it was well worth the drive out of town. We went to three different spots and I got my best photos of Lady Aurora on this tour. Stig is a talented driver on icy roads and Diamela is a fabulous host fitting people expertly with gear. She introduced us to her "retired" husky Loki as we warmed up around the campfire with late night snacks. they followed up with photos the next day! It was great!
We took the snowmobile tour with them the next morning and had even more fun! I thoroughly recommend any tour that Alta Adventure offers!

Nice to hear that you enjoyed also meeting our friendly husky Lucky and the lights were a plus, for sure.

First of all, I highly recommend the tour with Stig and Diamela. They really did their best to make this an unforgettable adventure. For sure we have been lucky to see so many northern lights that night, but there is no way that we would have found so many marvelous hidden places on our own to take awesome pictures. Stig drove around the woods around Alta with us and we stopped at various places to take pictures. He explained us a lot about Alta and the area. Later during the night we made a stop at his house to warm up. There his wife welcomed us with hot chocolate, cake and a campfire. Both were really friendly and I’d always come back for a similar or other tours with them.

Other reviews said their guide went above and beyond to find the lights. While I realize the guide, Stig, can't control the weather, he didn't seem really interested in looking hard. It seemed we were more going through the motions of looking, when he had already decided it wasn't happening. Perhaps driving to a more distant local would have done it, who knows, but that wasn't offered. We went to a couple different places that were obviously used in the past, and when it continued to be cloudy, that was that. Also, while the time at the campfire was nice, it seemed to be a filler. Maybe we just got him on an off night.

Hi Lisa:
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed about the tour. Even if we have more than 80% hit rate to see the lights, we sometimes can not find them, usually because of cloud coverage. These days are the most difficult days also for the guide, however he should do his outmost to find the lights and make it a nice evening anyhow. So, sorry if I did not do that. And yes, the guide will use his favourite places that he has had positive experiences before, and yes you might see the camp as a filler, but while waiting for the lights that is normally a nice experience for the guests. So again, we are sad to hear that we did not full fill your expectations, but hope you anyhow managed to find the lights while visiting Alta.
Best regards
Stig

The weather did not permit lights, it snowed the entire evening but our hosts provided a lovely evening. We toured two beautiful old churches and Steig provided fantastic context and commentary. We also were honored to go back to our hosts home for a bonfire, hot chocolate and pastries. Terrific evening. Thank you to our hosts for such a fantastic experience.

Wow, we did not expect such a positive feedback in a night without the lights. But we are super happy to hear that you had a nice time with us. It was really a pleasure to have you at our place and to enjoy nice conversations around the fire. You will for sure remember our sweet husky dog Lucky too :-)

This was THE BEST Adventure !
From the moment of Booking to the actual evening tour, this was by far a perfect experience.
Communication was easy and Stig & Diamela are the most amazing hosts. Stig is a wealth of knowledge and an expert in finding & chasing the elusive NorthernLights! With incremental weather that evening, it was doubtful we may see lights, I was up for whatever the adventure brought. Well, Stig knew right where to drive us, away from the snowstorm… inland and With Stig’s expertise we found the most magical Aurora Lights and the evening was filled with wondrous green dancing skies. Stig is a wealth of information and stories of old & new and just a wonderful experienced host. Thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the history of Finnmark, conversations were easy, enriching, fun & Happy!!! We had yummy hot chocolate and The Best Reindeer sandwiches (truly) to keep our evening going. Wonderful people joined and everything was delightful. The mini van was cosy and warm too. Did i mention? ?? 😉 The Northern Lights were astonishing, extraordinary, fascinating and Magical dancing with us along the way ! Tusen Takk Stig & Alta Adventure ~ i cant wait to return next year*~*

What a wonderful night we had with Diamela from Alta Adventures! We were picked up at the port with another large group from the ship at 8pm, and driven to Alta Adventures to get warm gear if we wanted it. I got a lovely coat which kept me toasty warm. We then headed in our minivan into the country and enroute Diamela got a call from Stig saying he had found the lights. Much excitement as we headed to the site and as soon as we were out of the van, there were the lights, all around us. Truly amazing sight!
Then we headed to Diamela's home where there is a campfire - we sat around the fire drinking hot choclate and delicious pastries. Amazing inclusion and so appreciated.
Next stop was to try and catch the lights again in a different spot but they were very weak here. I didn't really care - I had seen the Lights! :)
We headed back to Alta and dropped off our gear, and then to the ship where we were dropped off a little after midnight. I have only positive things to say about this tour and about Diamela and Stig - lovely who go beyond expectations and gave us an intimate, wonderful experience. Very highly recommended.

A great experience. Very professional guiding( Stig Erland Hansen).
He knows to predict where you can see the aurora and will take you there even if it means long drive.
We started at 19:00 so he first took us to visit some places in the area , so we also had a guided tour. He knows a lot about many topics.
And not less important, he is very nice and welcoming.
Very recommended..

We had a wonderful time touring with Stig and Diamela. They were friendly, helpful and shared knowledge of the Alta area, as well as personal stories. Stig was very knowledgeable about how to find the best places to see the northern lights, and succeeded in finding them on a snowy night that looked very doubtful to start. We highly recommend touring with Alta Adventure.

After days of poor weather, we were determined to see the Northern Lights before we left Alta early the next morning. Stig drove us to interesting places in Alta while we waited for the weather to clear, and kept scouting for good locations. Thanks to his perservance, we saw the aurora and he took great photos that we could download later.
