Big Island in a Day: Waterfalls, Rainforest, Coffee Farm, History

Overview

Exploring Hawaii’s Big Island can be a big undertaking, but it doesn’t have to be. Avoid the stress of planning out all the details with this guided tour that includes round-trip transport, lunch, snacks, and bottled water for your convenience. Because there’s minimal walking distance during this tour, it’s perfect for people of all ages and fitness levels. Plus, if the weather gets dreary, rain gear is provided to keep you dry.

What to Expect

Start your day's adventure with pickup from your Kohala or Kona hotel in a comfortable tour vehicle, and then head out for the farther reaches of the Big Island. Be sure to bring good walking shoes and dress in layers, as the temperature can vary widely at different elevations. Enjoy traveling with a small group of fellow travelers, limited to just 13 people.

Pass Parker Ranch and into Waimea, where the landscape changes, and take in views of the scenery instead of fussing about directions and logistics. Stop at Waipo Valley lookout for some photo ops and listen to your guide's narrative about King Kamehameha.

Wind down the Hamakua Coast toward Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls, two of the area's most beautiful. Then visit the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden before continuing on to Punalu'u Beach for a stroll along the black-sand beach. On the way back to Kona, pass Kealakekua Bay and learn about the area's bloody battle history.

If time permits, you may stop at a Kona coffee farm or the famous Punalu’u Bakery before you're dropped off at your hotel.

Amazing guided experience!

We did the full island tour. Long Day but totally worth it and cheaper than a much shorter helicopter tour. Our driver/guide, Chris, was incredible for his depth of knowledge and stories. Sign up for this!! You absolutely won’t regret it!!

Great tour, saw a lot, cool guide

The tour was really great, we had a lot of stops and saw a lot, my highlight was the hawaiian botianical garden. Our guide, Ryan, was great, very experienced and funny. It is a long trip with 12 hours, but its definately worth it.

I agree with the above review. This would be a very long day for two small children. Actually I doubt that even older kids would enjoy sitting in the van for most of the day, unless they enjoy history and scenery. Better... More
