About
On this tour you will visit the main highlights of Valletta, while also visiting an often ignored but equally fascinating part of the city. The tour starts at the modernized entrance of Valletta, and while walking along the majestic streets of the city, your guide will point out all the main landmarks, while keeping you entertained with fascinating and little-known true stories. What was it like to be a patient at the Holy Infirmatory? Or a galley slave on the ships of the Order? Were all Knights behaving in accordance to their vows?

What to expect
  • Your tour starts at a central location in Valletta where you'll meet your guide and set off on your private walking exploration of the city, one of Europe's most beautiful, known for its baroque architecture, palaces, and churches.  This UNESCO World Heritage site dates back to the 1500s, when the Knights of St. John founded the fortress city. Over the years, it became home to buildings designed by top European architects of the era and renowned works of art. Learn about all of this from your guide as you walk past landmarks such as Parliament House, the ruins of the Royal Opera House, the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens, Auberge d'Italie, Auberge de Castille, St. John's Co-Cathedral, the Great Siege Monument, Strait Street, St. George Square, Grandmaster's Palace, Piazza Regina, National Library of Malta, the Church of St. Paul's Shipwreck, the Siege Bell War Memorial, and Fort St. Elmo – National War Museum. As you go, hear little-known stories about what it was like to be a patient at the Holy Infirmatory or a galley slave on the ships of the Order, and whether all knights behaved in accordance to their vows. After three hours, you'll have a deeper perspective of Valletta.

Brilliant!!! So glad we did this
Aug 2021
Brilliant. Matthew was our guide and he was fabulous. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Valletta. He was able to answer all our questions and was friendly to us all. He was considerate about the sunny weather and tried his best to keep us in the shade as much as possible. Really lovely tour. Felt like we really got a brilliant feel for the rich history of Valletta. Would definitely reccommend it!

Jul 2021 • Friends
We had Mario as our private guide who was very dedicated in giving us all the info for the tour. He answered all our questions and looked very pleased to offer us a nice experience in Valletta. We recommend him also because he is a history teacher :)

Great tour with expert guide Matthew
Jun 2021
Matthew is an expert, he can talk for hours about Malta, not only about history but politics and economy as well. He showed us around and took the time to explain, to answer questions, we walked at a quiet pace. What I really appreciated, is that we were only 2 persons and that the tour took place. Matthew told me that in normal circumstances, the group would never have been very large : 10-15 persons maximum. And that is exactly why the tours are so interesting. As I said, Matthew really took the time and we walked for more than 3 hours, didn't see the time passing by. The approach was personalized, almost tailor-made and we really enjoyed it. Furthermore, I received a voucher for a free tour which I was unfortunately not able to attend as I was leaving Malta. Thanks a lot to Matthew & Colour My Travel !

History and Walking in a Nutshell
Dec 2019
Our tour guide Matthew was so knowledgeable and easy to listen to.Gave us the whole history of Malta in a easy to understand way. He could answer any questions and fused historical and contemporary facts in with the walk . We were kept so entertained that we didn't notice time going. There was about 12 in the group which was perfect for hearing everything.
