Awesome short experience!
Dec 2021 • Friends
I really enjoyed the cave and the tour guide was really nice and funny! I wish I knew about the other tour that was longer and more extensive in the cave (this tour is only about an hour, but felt like it could’ve taken less depending on the people in the group). If you’re fit, I suggest the longer tour because this one was quite short and it will leave you wanting to see more (a good thing). There are lots of sky lights (holes in the ground) and very cool colors! You’ll be able to take some nice photos here- but you will get wet so make sure you wear a waterproof jacket and boots (NOT SNEAKERS).

Young woman guide was super friendly and very knowledgeable, beautiful cave, and just the right distance & time to easily enjoy. Saw other people of every age in our group so I highly recommend this to everyone. It's just a short drive South East from Reykjavik.

We've enjoyed every moment in this tour, it took us some time to review it (sorry)
The price was worth it, actually our tour was quick, we wished we could spend more time, it's been an mazing experience especially with our tour guide who was so funny too.

It was good until it was very quickly over
We were really excited to have booked this and had expected this to last 2 hours, instead we arrived off the coach, waited for a member of staff who was really good but the tour was less than an hour not even sure it was 45 mins and you didn’t go that far in. I felt a bit missold and we paid £112 approx. I think I would have preferred to have put that towards a different tour - I can’t say I would recommend to my family or friends for the price we paid. But if you are looking for a quick tour in the morning before an evening flight then this might be for you.

Fantastic Experience
Nov 2021
Great experience, wearing crampons and helmets, all necessary too. Excellent guide with good sense of humour. Very interesting details about the tunnel itself and its formation. Very colourful rocks and a good experience when in complete darkness. Not a difficult tunnel and you can do a more adventurous route which takes you further into the tunnel, but this takes a lot longer.

Beautiful place, must experience!
Nov 2021 • Friends
The tunnel was so beautiful and colourful, definitely a must to go see. Soleil was our guide, she was so sweet and funny, I'm so happy we had her to take us through the tunnel. Loved learning all the little information about how the tunnel was formed, and how the company was able to open it back up for people to visit again. There was plenty of time for photo opportunities with no one in the background, and our guide stayed behind until everyone was satisfied with photos and questions. The option we chose was not something strenuous, so it was a nice start to our trip. Definitely go do it, and if you get Soleil, you'll have a wonderful experience!

Loving A Large Lava Tunnel
Oct 2021
Located about an hour from Reykjavik, the Raufarholshellir Lava Tunnel offers a unique view of what's underneath the Icelandic volcanic basalt. It's worth the time and money.

In 2016, we (the family) were driving all over Iceland in the winter and stumbled across the sign for Raufarholshellir. At the time, it was undeveloped as a tourish site. We "dropped in" through a large opening in the ground and explored what we could, limited by the massive piles of snow (we were there in January.) Since then, the tunnel has been developed with the placement of a walkway and lighting allowing easy access to 100m of the tunnel.

We booked our tour online (standard tour) and arrived at the designated time. After meeting our guide (who was outstanding) and being provided with helmets, we took off. We walked the 100m down the tunnel and back, guided by our guided who provided an informative narrative. The pace was comforable and allowed time to stop for pictures.

Compared to the Thurston Lava Tube on the Big Island of Hawaii, this was far more interesting.
