Discover a side of Athens beyond the ancient monuments and crowded tourist spots with a private guide well-versed in the Greek capital’s counterculture. Learn about the social and political movements that inspired vibrant street art, enjoy the views from a secret lookout point, and taste a treat from a favorite local bakery.
What to Expect
Discover the alternative side of the ancient city of Athens. Stroll through the city’s unique neighbourhoods and learn about their history. Your local private guide will show you all the authentic spots and uncover the city’s secrets for you.

Begin your tour in the heart of the historic city, Monastiraki area. Admire one of the oldest church and pass different places which are hosting cultural events and exhibitions. Take a look at the unique souvenirs displayed at the flea market before wandering the streets of Psiri. Listen to your local guide stories and gain insights into the city’s modern culture.

Know for its hip bars, galleries, and theaters, the area is one of the coolest in the city. Make a stop at an old bakery and enjoy a tasty freshly baked ‘koulouri’, which is a circled bread stick. Tip: take care, it might be hot! Continue your walk through this hip area and pass by cool street art, interesting architectural buildings, and stylish venues.

Go off the beaten path and head off into the Exarcheia, a historical area where present and past mingle. The area’s full of young people, amazing street art and it’s a symbol of anarchist movements. Discover different political messages, hear the stories behind them and how the economical crisis influenced the social movement.

Great walking tour

We really enjoyed our tour. It was great to go off the beaten track and not need a gps or stress about directions. Good information about the history and politics of the city too.
