What could have been a disaster was sorted by Miguel, he initially left a voice note early morning saying the minibus had a warning light on and was going to try and replace it, but with it being Easter wasn't sure it would be possible, fortunately he got it sorted and with just a 30 minute delay to our departure time, he saved the day.

The three sets of two people were collected and we were on our way to Cascais and a nice stop to take in this town 45 minutes or so from Lisbon.

From there we went to Cabo Da Roca, the western most point of Europe for a short stop and a nice photo opportunity of the beautiful coastline.

Then it was all aboard the minibus to the town of Sintra and a stop in this lovely little town and tourist hot spot for a little walk around (some pastries) and a look in the city palace at our own discretion.

A short trip up to the Quinta da Regaleira and its many sites which were insanely busy, meaning we had to miss the Poco Iniciatico as the queue stretched for hours that we didn't have. Miguel to the rescue and we got to see the Poco Imperfeito with a little of his 'insider knowledge'. The Quinta da Regaleira is a good morning visit on its own.

Then to top it all off we go the spectacular Pena Palace, again queues, queues, queues but worth it for some amazing views from an amazing building.

All this for £125 for the two of us is ridiculous value for money, the tour took us many great places and Miguel the guide was informative and attentive and when faced with an obstacle overcame it by going above and beyond.

If you have a spare day, or just want to explore outside of Lisbon this is a great way to do it.

Our tour guide Miguel did an excellent job and worked very hard to conduct the tour safely, on schedule and while sharing tons of knowledge in both English and Spanish. I think this is a great tour if you have a short amount of time in Lisbon like we did, with only a 3 day stay. If you have more time in the area, you may want to consider a trip with a more leisurely itinerary but for us it was perfect.

Miguel did an excellent job of telling us the history of the sites, keeping us on schedule and making the best use of our time. His patient advice and information really helped me enjoy the day. His personal tour of Quinta da Regaleira was excellent, and he was also willing to take photos. Although lunch was on our own, Miguel showed us options and provided recommendations. I note this trip is perfect if you want to see a lot in one day - if you have the time, you could easily spend much more time in each location.

Sintra was beautiful but this tour was a total mess, and I would not recommend it to anyone. First of all, we purposefully booked a small group tour (max 8 people) and paid a premium price for it but ended up being combined with a few other groups and put on one large bus. The microphone wasn’t working so it was impossible to hear the tour guide unless you were sitting right next to her. When we got to the attractions, it became clear that the guide, Mary (Mariana?), didn’t care much for the history and culture and only told us basic superficial facts. I tried asked asking her more about the St. Peter Church and Quinta da Regaleira but she just looked annoyed. At some point the microphone started working (but then broke again) and she used it as an opportunity to tell us about how much she hates tuk-tuks instead of anything about Sintra. Mary was also very impolite, was constantly yelling at the attendees and the bus drivers, and even managed to lose two people at one of the attractions. They were very distressed and were trying to call her on WhatsApp for an hour, and when they finally connected, Mary just yelled at them. Another time we were at the bottom of a hill with several paths leading up, and I asked her which path to take, and she just kept yelling “UP! UP!!!” When we finally got to Pena Palace, the highlight of the trip, we didn’t have the time to actually go inside and explore it. I let Mary know that we are going to rush to the palace and be back at the agreed time, and she was very passive-aggressive in WhatsApp messages. All in all, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would advise to stay away from Cooltours and Mary specifically. Because we got combined with other groups, the mic was not working, and the tour guide was unprofessional, I would like a refund. Sintra was beautiful and I would highly recommend going there but you would be better off doing it on your own.

Although i think that iffall the tours with us were like you describe here our rating for this tour was not 4.7 stars. Rating that is given from travelers like you. Hope in the next trip coming to Portugal we can talk and show you why this company it have a 4.7stars in guiding. Thank you

I was disappointed with this tour. The guide was very nice and provided interesting information. The locations were beautiful. However like others I was expecting a small group tour of about 8 and there were 16 of us (and some people cancelled last minute which means there would have been even more). As a result we were in a larger bus, and it was not a great experience - the bus was not great, creaky, the fan was very loud at the back so it was difficult to hear the microphone (which was also working intermittently), and in the heat of the sun in the afternoon the minibus got very hot unless you were in a seat that got a good breeze from the fan or small windows. Also with a larger group there is less interaction. The content of the tour was good, and we found the balance good between time at each location with the exception of Pena palace. The guide explained there was very little chance of getting into the palace due to the large queues that are always there, and even if we had got in it would have been very rushed to get through in time. I did not mind just walking through the gardens, however I would have liked to have known this in advance as if I had been very interested in seeing the inside of Pena Palace I would have made other arrangements and ensured I had long enough to queue and experience it properly.

Once again Susana was our travel guide. She had done such a bang up job on our tour of Porto that we hired her for this tour as well. We got to the Pena Palace early to avoid the crowds. This palace is a must see. The exterior is a mix of several architectural style, ie Christian Monastary, Moorish and the inside is incredibly beautiful. This was a monastary that was remodeled to be a home and each of the monk's cells were made into a room for the family. Each room is unique and from floor to ceiling, the architectural detail is incredible. We stayed over an hour and a half then headed to Sintra's city center with Susana decribing all sights. The drive to Cascais was so beautiful as it bordered the Atlantic and the waves were quite large which made for a lovely drive. We ate at a retaurant overlooking the ocean---incredible seafood with a breathtaking view. We had fish stew with delicious bread to sop up every bit. Susana knows the best restaurants and this one was wonderful. We continued our drive along the ocean stopping as various sites to take photos and just marvel at the beauty of the Portugal coastline. As we traveled on to Cascais, Susana filled us in on the history of this sleepy rural town that is now one of the wealthiest towns in Portugal. I highly recommend Van Go tours and especially Susana. P.S.I needed a Covid Negative test within 24 hours of my travel back to the USA. Susana arranged that for me as well. I don't know what I would have done without her.

Places visited were beautiful despite foggy weather. Wish we had more time in Pena palace and Sintra to look around but I think it was enough to get an idea.

The guide Migel acted as if he was in a hurry, had no sense of the group in terms of walking tempo and how much time we needed to get around. He acted as if he was with a group of children on a school trip instead of paying adults.
His communication was not the best and he lacks a pleasant tone. Because of that, it is difficult for a person to focus on what he’s saying.

Also, we spent most of the day in the van and he prohibited us eating or drinking during the drive. That was the first time I ever heard a driver/guide ask that.

The whole experience was quite ruined by his approach.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your view of our Sintra tour. We are sad to read you had a lesser experience, that is not what we strive for with our tours. Having said that, we feel the need to mention that we don't 'rush' people, even for a second, but we need to maintain the schedule to some extent without compromising the customer's experience. The guides are also instructed to tell how the day will unfold and make everyone comfortable to ask questions. While some customers can perceive it has 'in a hurry', it is the inherent need of the tour to make it fluid. Also, we give plenty of free time to explore the several locations we visit throughout the day. That constant pace allows you to reach all points in good time. In some cases, especially with elderly or small children, we need to adapt and adjust our pace, of course. Regarding the communication, we always try to deliver a positive and light tone, but we admit it may be confused with a lukewarm and sober speech, for example. Also, every people (guide) is different, so their personality can be distinct as well. What we know is that Miguel has a proven record, and is an outstanding guide. We understand but according to our guidelines, it is strictly forbidden to eat and drink (unless it is water) inside the vehicle. That is also indicated in the page tour description. Several stops are made along the day for that purpose. We hope to see you again soon for more Cool Tours. Regards, The Cooltours

Even though this advertises a “small group” tour of max 8 people, there ended up being twice that many on the tour, all of whom had booked a “small tour”. There were issues with the microphone on the bus so we could barely hear the guide from the back, and the guide forgot some people behind at one point and had to go look for them. What a disaster. My refund request was declined without any explanation despite the clear misrepresentation.

Mr. Luc Thank you for your review. The feedback that i have from the guide that was with you is complety the oposit. the guide only spoke without microfone for the two clients that were next to him they were brasilians, all the rest of the tour was with micro. sometimes the micro can have some small bad conneccions . The tour 90% its made in minivan but unfortunelly with these global covid problem a lot of unexpected issues like minivan not in market we had to adapt. As you can see in your inclusions on the voucher this information is writen . Hope in the future we can show you why we have 4.7stars its not the type of image we normaly give. Thank you

Cooltours provided information day before the trip re meeting place and time. Joana was our driver/guide for the day, and was very professional whilst being informal and informative. Our meeting point was a 3 min walk from our hotel on Praca de Comercio. A family of four with 2 teenagers were also waiting at pickup point and a young couple from Germany were also in the minibus. We had a half hour stop in Cascais, a 30 minute stop at Cabo de Roca, 30 minute browse in Sintra before walking to Regaleira. Fun grounds (won't spoil fun by explaining), and then a quick look in the Quinta. Joana gave us choice of eating together (she'd book a Portuguese restaurant if we wished to do that, which we did) or going off alone. The restaurant she took us to provided menu sheets with tick list for each group and from that we were able to have have separate bills at the end. We were then driven up to Pena Palace, where we had the choice of paying for the grounds only, or for entrance to the Palace as well. We only had 1 hour 30 mins there, so we choice to explore the grounds. I have seen previous reviews which gave fewer stars due to lack of time at venues, but if you want to fit everything into the day, as we did, this trip ticks the box. we had a choice of drop off: Marques Pombal square or Restaudores. We all chose the latter. Great time, and we would definitely use cooltours again. Obligada.

Our guide Daniel was excellent. He had a great personality and was very informational! Definitely would recommend these this trip. It includes alot of attractions and I would recommend doing some planning of each stop so that you know what exact things you want to see/do, as time is limited with each stop.
