Have to say, this is one of the rare times TripAdvisor let me down. Two of three stops lacked authenticity and appeared to be just a setup to get you to buy merchandise. The tour guide provided no additional helpful information or insights about the...More
Combine visits to Marken, Volendam, and Zaanse Schans—three top sites in the Dutch countryside—on this tour from Amsterdam. Choose from a half-day or full-day tour, and opt to join a ferry cruise from Volendam to Marken (summer season only). Listen to an audio guide during the coach ride, and stop to see a shoemaker fashion traditional clogs, a group of Holland’s famous windmills, and a cheese factory.
Make your way to a central Amsterdam meeting point to board the coach bus, which will transport you to three famous Dutch countryside sites. In your comfy seat, listen to an audio guide, narrating the history, culture, and traditions of your destinations: the North Holland villages of Marken, Volendam, and Zaanse Schans.
While the driving is taken care of, enjoy the Dutch countryside, passing areas of land reclaimed from water, called polders, and dikes.
Arrive at Zaanse Schans to see the well-preserved windmills, some from the 17th century. Entry to one windmill is included.
Back on the coach, continue to Marken and Volendam, with 45-minute stops at each. See traditional fishing boats and visit a dairy for a demonstration and samples. You’ll watch traditional clogs being made at a local shoemaker. In summer, a ferry ride between the towns is included.
The full-day tour includes longer stops at each destination. When the tour is complete, relax on the way back to Amsterdam for drop-off.
