Overview

Italian driving can be nerve-racking for newbies, and Sicily’s winding mountain roads are seriously tough. Let the shuttle bus take the strain on this door-to-door guided tour that packs a whole bunch of Sicily into just one day: the Mount Etna active volcano, the historic resort town of Taormina, the wildlife refuge island of Isola Bella, and an organic farm, complete with tastings.

What to Expect

Your guide collects you from Catania and drives you up to Rifugio Sapienza, 6,300 feet (1,920 meters) high on the slopes of Mount Etna. Here you can choose to trek in the nature park or pay extra to ride the cable car. If you opt for the cable car and a 4WD minibus, you’ll reach the crater: your mountain guides can show you the spots where Etna is at her most active.

After exploring a lava cave, you’ll stop at an organic farm to sample honey, olive oil, wine, and other typical Sicilian products. Then savor a swimming stop in the crystal-clear waters of Isola Bella (Beautiful Island), a wildlife reserve. Finally, discover beautiful Taormina, with its ancient Greek theater, wealth of medieval monuments, and exclusive shops. At the end of the day, the bus drops you back at your hotel, port, or train or bus station.

Wonderful day

Our guide was Simone, we spend a lovely day on Etna and around Taormina with him. Very knowledgable, patient and kind, it was a real pleasure to enjoy Sicily this way. Will definitely come back for the South part of the island as well.

Wonderful way to spend the day

I typically don't like tours. Rather discover on my own plus the quality of the guide, especially in a country where you don't speak the language, can be hit or miss. This tour was the exception to the rule. Simone, our guide, was excellent. Very...More

I guess depends on the arrangements you make. Our tour was just six people and they picked me up at the AirBNB I was staying which was part of the fee. We had lots of time and ultimately dependent on how everybody else in... More
