About
The Vatican Museums are among the most crowded in the world, sometimes having as many 20,000 visitors in a day. On this tour, see the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica (note: the Basilica is closed to the public on Wednesdays) in the relative peace of early morning, entering the museums well before they are open to the public—when you enter the Sistine Chapel, it is mostly empty. A small-group size means plenty of personal attention.

What to expect
Your early morning tour begins at the main entrance to the Vatican Museums. Meet your guide and small group and enter the museums. Walk through the main galleries, including the Room of the Candelabra, Hall of Tapestries, and Gallery of the Maps. Before reaching the Sistine Chapel, receive a reference map you can use once inside, a useful resource since visitors to the chapel are expected to be silent as they observe Michelangelo’s masterpieces. After exiting the chapel from a side door head straight to St. Peter’s Basilica, skipping the lines. Your guide takes you to see the baroque Baldacchino, La Pieta, and other masterworks. The last stop is underneath the main floor of the basilica, where hundreds of Popes are buried. Finish the tour in front of the Basilica.

Our tour guide was a very lovely lady who was very informative and knowledgeable. I appreciated how much she knew and how willing she was to listen to questions and provide answers. My only problem was the connecting door in the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica, requires your tour guide to lead the tour. Otherwise the security require you to the main exit and you have to walk twenty plus minutes outside to reach the Basilica. It is advertised you also see the Basilica and learn about it. Our tour guide left and our tour group was unable to go out the hallway door which was the easier way to get there.

Absolutely amazing tour of a beautiful place. Our guide was very informative and friendly which made the experience much greater. Very much worth the early morning to have a far less crowded view of the Sistine Chapel. You also have the option to stick around and explore more if you would like which is good

We really enjoyed our tour until the very end. Our guide Camilla kept telling all of us about how there was a good chance we would get to enter the Basilica through the door from the Sistine chapel that has been closed for 2 years. It ended up being open. We were all so excited. Literally three minutes after we entered the Sistine Chapel, she said goodbye to a few group members and disappeared. Our entire group was waiting by the door on the right to enter St. Peter’s Basilica and the rude employees would not let us through without her. Even though our $90 tour advertises the St Peter’s Basilica entrance (if it is open - which is was) and she kept telling us to make sure we see it, she was the reason we could not. Do not recommend this tour, it was overpriced for what it was and we all left disappointed.

Absolutely the worst tour we have ever been on, and I love tours.
The guide was over 15 min late and we were all relieved when she finally took us across from the meeting site to the Vatican entrance.
There the troubles only intensified. She could not get our tickets and we spent about half an hour milling around the crowds while she struggled on the phone and with the Vatican ticket agents before finally procuring tickets for all but three of our group. She sent 3 family members away to return another time!
By the time we entered the Vatican and got our headphones for the tour, it was over an hour after the scheduled starting time. The guide rushed
through the tour and we all had trouble keeping up with her. Everything was rushed: everything! We learned very little and saw even less. Thank heaven for the group members' support and laughter as we tried to make the best of the fiasco...
The worst part was the end when the guide couldn't access the tour entrance to St Peter's Basilica because we were so late. She told us to go to the exit, find St Peters, and stand in line for the Basilica. We were on our own because she was late for her next scheduled tour. We never did get to see St Peters Basilica which was one of the main reasons we booked this particular tour.
This was disorganized and frustrating. I emailed the company soon after and was told not to put in a review until customer service for The Roman Guy contacted us. No one ever did, so this is my review.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I do not recommend.

Hi Dave and David! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are truly sorry this was your experience. Based on what you've said this is not our standard for tours. While sometimes things happen beyond our or anyone control, we'd like to make this up to you. As you can Imagine, restarting during Covid has caused quite the strain on the Vatican and operations there which are being resolved as more time goes on. We've addressed many of these issues and are constantly working on ways to improve for future tours. I understand this tour has already passed and we'd like to get in touch with you to make it up to you! We've reached out and will look forward to hearing from you. We've added more agents to our team in Europe and the US and will be adding more to better assist you and other customers in the future. We hope you had a great time during your trip to Rome and we'd love to make this up to you on a future tour!

Our tour guide was absolutely amazing! She was attentive to her audience, she was extremely knowledable than most of the guides I've had during my stay in Rome. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because this was sold as a Vatican museum, Sistine chapel and st. Peter's Basilica tour. Sadly, the st Peter's tour didn't happen and nothing replaced it so a 3 hour express tour was only 2 hours long and we were not allowed back into the museum after the tour ended so I don't feel like we got our full money's worth.

On this tour, there was a fraction of the tourists than what you would encounter normally. For example, we were able to see the complete tapestries in that long hallway without anyone standing in front of us.

Our guide, Lucina, had an expert knowledge of art history. Her explaination of different styles and concepts made more sense than in any art history class I have taken. I learned a lot on this tour. She also had a great sense of humor. If you are lucky, you will get her as a guide.

One thing to consider is, you might want to bring your own earpiece or headset for the tour as the ones provided by the Vatican can be uncomfortable and not work very well.

There is so much to see in the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's, it makes sense to have a tour guide take you around so that you can make sense of what you at looking at. Raf our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She was happy to answer our questions and took us around at a good pace. It's worth getting the early tour as it's not as crowded and you have the rest of the day to eat drink and be merry.

We toured the breathtaking Vatican City. With Tour Guy, we were able to enter the City an hour earlier than general admission. Our guide, Raff, wasted no time as she gave us a crash course in Vatican history while we waited to be let inside. Throughout the two-hour tour, Raff provided engaging and in-depth exposition and answers to the endless questions about the city. The tour was well-paced, with invitations to stay longer in places like the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter’s Basilica. An unforgettable experience, brought to life thanks to Raff and Roman Tour Guy.

Faby, our guide, was excellent. The tour did not originally include the Rafael apartments in the Vatican, but she made time to show us them. (They are unmissable and you should make sure that your tour includes them if you are interested in Rafael) it was easy to hear her at all times with the ear bud provided and she was very knowledgeable, telling us the personal stories of the artists and their rivalries, as well as the significance of their art.
