My wife and I came here mostly for a fun gimmick but found it to be both a lot of fun and very enriching. I am a huge history nerd and loved this experience. My wife loved the dressup and activity. Our instructor Dragana was extremely knowledgable about legionnary and gladiator techniques and tactics. She let us try on realistic armor and use realistic weapons used in the Roman era. It is the best interactive experience we had in Rome. I highly recommend any fans of Roman history to come here for some hands on experience.

One of the highlights of our trip to Rome. Our kids loved dressing up as gladiators and sparring for two ours. The staff here are absolutely fantastic: super patient with the kids, funny and extremely helpful. They gave us free water and extra masks when we realized we'd forgotten ours for our taxi back into the center of the city; they even let us borrow a phone charger. But it's a great experience, particularly if you have kids. It's about a 20-min taxi ride from central Rome, so allot yourself plenty of time to get there. It also helps to arrange a ride back or use a ride-sharing app for pickup. Other suggestion: bring mosquito spray! It's outdoors and you'll likely get a few bites if it's that time of year.

This was amazing!!
Our family (adults, kids aged 8 and 11) had the best time! We learned so much in such a fun way. The museum is great, with gladiator helmets, armour and weapons and then the gladiator practice and fights were hilarious. This was our first activity in Rome and it didn’t disappoint. Our teacher was perfect, forceful, knowledgeable - exactly what you want when you’re learning to be a gladiator! This is living history at its finest. P

We didn't really know what to expect when we booked this, but it turned out to be a super fun afternoon. There is a small museum on site with replicas of helmets, armour, shields, weapons and various war machines - not just those used by gladiators, but also those used by Roman legionaries. The experience starts with some explanation in the museum and some fun posing for photos with helmets, shields and spears.
Then you move outside for the lesson. You will learn and practice some of the techniques used by the Roman legions, then you will learn a few moves with wooden swords before doing a bit of sparring.
The woman who taught us was knowledgeable and obviously loved all things Roman. Her enthusiasm and passion shone through. She also knew how to make things enjoyable and fun. We would do it again. - had a great time!
It's a bit out of the centre on the Appian Way, but is accessible by bus. There is a sign at the end of the street, but at first it is not clear exactly where the location is. Just continue done the street marked number 18 and in a few minutes you will see the place.

Great family activity - not overly polished or commercialised, but very authentic. We brought our boys (9 and 6) and they both loved it. Our guide, Davida, was excellent - very knowledgeable and engaging. You start with a brief tour of the museum to learn about the history of Rome and gladiators, and putting on a tunic and rope belt. The museum is small (one room) and is more like a prop store from a film, as pretty much everything is a replica. However, this makes it all the better for the kids as they get to handle swords, wear helmets, etc. Following this, Davida took up the role of lanista and put the kids through their paces in an outdoor arena, culminating in one on one gladiatorial combat! When finished, they got a certificate of citizenship for ancient Rome. Highly recommend, especially for kids who are into ancient Rome.

We highly recommend this activity for the kids. Ours, aged 9, 11 and 14, loved it. It was very entertaining. Our kids who are not fluent in English have had no issue in understanding Titus, the lanista. There is a first introduction in the small museum full of artefacts used by Gladiators, then the training camp, and the fight. If you kids are bored with visit and museums, it is a must do.

This is out first time in Italy traveling with our kids kids 15, 12 & 8. This was a fun and original way to learn about the Roman Gladiators before visiting the Colosseum. We all participated and had a lot of fun with the gladiator training. I highly recommend this activity if your kids are not so fond of long guided tours.

First of all the experience was amazing, we enjoyed every moment and did not want it to end. It felt like watching a show and participating in it at the same time. The training was excellent and of course we learned a lot. Highly recommended for families with children - this is the highlight of the trip for them and they will talk about it for a very long time.

I went with my 9yr old son and we really enjoyed it as a morning out from all the amazing sightseeing. A brief historical talk with replicas of gladiator weapons and armour before some fun training exercises, learning sword attacks and blocks and then final (foam) sword fights in the arena. All the kids (and most of the adults) seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone gets a certificate. It's a bit out of the way (about 1.3m) from Navona area. We took a taxi there (€12) and walked back but they will order an uber/taxi for you at the end. The first bit of the walk on Appia Attica only has a small pavement for kids but the rest of the walk is great.

This was a genuinely brilliant experience. We have 4 boys aged between 8 and 18 years and it is so difficult to find an activity that interests them all. This totally nailed it. Our gladiator guide Olympo was fun, informative and excellent. The talk before the training was so interesting, even my oldest who got a 9 at gcse in classics at GCSE found little with which to disagree! The training was instructive and totally interactive and he took the time to talk to everyone and check their technique, then the battles in the arena were truly superb. Olympo told us he does twice weekly genuine gladiator battles; why are these not on at the colosseum in the evening for everyone to watch? What a spectacle that would be! Cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

Even though there are several time options to choose from, It says that the class is only offered at 9am. Is this accurate? Or can I get tickets for a class for some time in the afternoon/evening?

Can we book the tickets when we get there or does it need to be booked in advance. The reason I am asking is I am not sure about the exact time I will be that area as we are visiting few other places so want to keeo the time flexible.

It does not. We paid for a taxi. They did have someone willing to drive us back to our hotel for 15E at the end of our activity but I’m not sure that is always available. They can call a cab for you if you need it

Do the spectators have to purchase a ticket if they are only going to watch their family member going through the school?

No. We only purchased a ticket for my son and I was asked to volunteer to help out the instructor along with a few other parents. At one point, my wife was in the arena participating as well. We had a great time and highly recommend it!
