Overview
Visit the ruins of Pompeii and the top of Mt. Vesuvius on a 7-hour tour from Naples. Learn about the history of the ancient Roman city and its destruction more than 2,000 years ago, and gain insight into the geology of the region from an archaeological guide and a volcanologist guide. Includes round-trip transportation from central Naples.
What to Expect
After morning pickup from locations in central Naples, relax during the scenic 30-minute drive to Pompeii.

Begin with a walking tour of the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, stopping to see the thermal baths, racy paintings in the Lupanare, the Basilica, Macellum (market square), and the formerly opulent residence known as the House of Faun. Your guide shares informative commentary about life in old Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

After your time at the ruins, take about one hour to purchase lunch (own expense). Next up, rejoin your driver and travel up Mt. Vesuvius to 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). Disembark there and follow your guide up a winding path that leads to the top of the volcano. The moderately challenging walk takes about 25 minutes one-way (comfortable shoes recommended). Peer into the volcano crater and learn about the geology of the volcano from a volcanologist guide. Expect to spend 30 minutes at the top of the mountain.

Your tour ends with return to your starting point in Naples in the late afternoon.

Buyer Beware......of World Tours

Purchased the "Small Group" version of this tour just 3 days prior to leaving for Italy. At Pompeii, our SMALL GROUP was approximately 40 people. This made it difficult to be in the same space/area as the guide when descriptions were being given. Also difficult...More

It was very fast

An organized tour that takes two hours at Pompei (and unfortunately I don't remember the guide name in site; excellent professional, has a goatee and it's a blue fedora), then you go to the volcano site and climb it. At the top, you have a...More

Great way to experience Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius

Our World Tours employee seemed a bit disorganized but she got everything done that she needed to. Great tour guide at Pompeii. Mt. Vesuvius hike was amazing as well. Would recommend renting (for a donation) a walking stick at the stand where you start the...More

Very enjoyable tour

We went on the small group (16 people) tour and it was definitely worth the price. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable and the journey was well planned but also relaxed. The climb up to the top of Mt. Vesuvius is quite tough though, you...More

The driver knew a great restaurant halfway between Pompei and Vesuvius. It was super nice. So ask him. I think you can also meet at Pompei where you meet your guide and then later go by coach to Vesuvius. Discuss this with... More
