Capture the alpine spirit of Montserrat on a 4-hour tour from Barcelona. Aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled coach, drive along the Llobregat River through picturesque villages to reach the 4,051-foot (1,234-meter) mountain. Visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat and listen to your guide's commentary on the history and legends of the mountain. Take some free time to explore the paths, stairs, caves, chapels and hermitages scattered all over the mountain on your own. Round-trip transportation (approximately 1 hour each way) from a central Barcelona meeting point is included.
What to Expect

Meet your guide, who will be holding an orange umbrella, outside of the tourist office in Placa Catalunya. Here, you'll board an air-conditioned coach for the 1-hour drive to Montserrat.

Travel through villages traversed by the Llobregat River (Catalonia’s second longest) before arriving at Montserrat, a mountain famed for jutting peaks that soar to heights of 4,051 feet (1,234 meters).

On arrival in Montserrat, you’ll embark on a guided tour of its monastery, basilica and museum. Then, you'll have two hours of free time to explore Montserrat independently.

Opt to visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat — known for its 12th century carving of  the Lady of Montserrat (the Black Virgin). Explore the mountain’s pathways, stairs, caves and hermitages and see Montserrat’s 1000-year-old monastery. Montserrat's museum is also home to a library of nearly 300,000 volumes and a museum with paintings by El Greco, Picasso and Dalí, among others.

Afterward, meet back up with your guide and group for the journey back to Barcelona. Your driver will take an alternative route so that you can enjoy additional scenery and entertain you with recordings of traditional Catalan music.

First part will be about Montserrat, which was AMAZING! Stunning views, it is hard to comprehend that this could have been built high up in straight up mountains a century ago. Montserrat is well preserved and well worth the trip. Second part is about the...More

Excellent tour

The tour was excellent and informative. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable but the ear pieces used to listen to her were not clear. The tour could do with an extra hour. The time up at the monastery was to quick.

How do you encompass the beauty of the surroundings when you only have 1 hour? Our convoy of 2 buses was 20 minutes late in leaving Barcelona as one guide didn't show. When we arrived at the Montserret our guide immediately took us to the...More

The journey up to Montserrat was fine to begin with but the guide would not stop talking. After a while our group of 4 just stopped listening. Very nice views from the bus up into the hills and Montserrat itself has amazing views too. The...More

We left from just across from the Tourist Office on the main square. It was about a one hour bus trip to & from Montserrat. We arrived back in the city...same place...just after 7pm.
