Make your way to the departure point in central Barcelona, and then head to the Catalonian village of Monistrol de Montserrat. Board a cogwheel train for a ride to Montserrat Monastery, taking in views of the countryside as you ascend to the towering summit.  Upon arrival, sample local food and drink such as coca de Montserrat (a sweet pastry) washed down with homemade liquors. Learn about the site’s religious history dating back to the 11th century and explore the grounds both with a guide and on your own. Head back to the bus for a quick drive to a wine cellar located in a 10th-century castle. Opt for multi-course meal followed by a wine tasting and cheese platter, or choose to enjoy your wines paired with tapas (select upon booking). Both options include a tour of the cellar and three organic wines.  This Montserrat tour concludes in Barcelona.

Amazing day in Montserrat with Lorena!

Montserrat is a beautiful and unique location; our guide Lorena was just amazing! She was funny, engaging, took great care of the fairly large group and really knew her stuff. She was an expert on the area and included many fun and different facts about our various stops.
The luncheon provided at the winery was incredible and the staff was attentive and pleasant. Finally, the wine tasting and the wine room were excellent. Overall, we had plenty of quality time at each stop, the tour flowed really well and it was definitely a great value for the price.
Thanks Lorena for making this such a great and memorable day!

Beautiful day trip, delicious wines!
We really enjoyed our trip to the hillside historic and religious site of Montserrat. The cathedral was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, and there ate several modern pieces of art inside that are stunning Our guide, Pul, did an excellent job of explaining the history of the area and the monastery. He was very interesting to listen to. For the lunch and winery portion of the trip, we took a bus for about half hour and switched to a different guide. She was also very knowledgeable. The winery was located in a castle dating back over 1,000 years, owned by the same family for all that time. The wines were very good. We tasted two whites and two reds. The reds were particularly delicious, in my opinion. I would have bought a half case to take back to the States if the shipping hadn’t been $120! The lunch was not as good but that’s usually the case with a large group lunch. It was certainly decent. Overall, I definitely recommend this excursion as very enjoyable for anyone with an interest in nature, history and wine.

Montserrat day with amazing guide Nerea

My husband and I had an exceptional experience with Nerea on the Wine Tour. From the check-in to the end, she was very caring and personable to everyone on the tour, inclusive and made sure everyone felt taken care of and included in the experiences on-site, asking if she could take pictures for people, explaining the wine in detail, the history of Barcelona and the winery, and just the perfect personality for a guide. The most important piece was she was so genuine, we felt she enjoyed her job and showing tourists the experience which showed in how she treated us. I very much would recommend the tour but especially Nerea as she is the one who made the whole experience special, fun, and unique.

A Tour with Something for Everyone
Definitely add this visit to your itinerary. Overall trip was about 1 hour from Barcelona. I wish I could remember her name but the tour guide gave interesting facts on the way there along with punny jokes. Montserrat was beautiful. As soon as you arrive you can feel that you are in a truly holy/spiritual place. I liked that throughout the tour we got to do a little bit of everything including hike, view architecture, food tastings, and of course drink wine. JAVI was our tour guide and I can’t say enough nice things about him. He made the tour interesting and fun. His English was great and was very knowledgeable. Javi was personable and made our trip extra special. He even recommended an amazing empanada place in the city, which we loved. The winery was beautiful. Small and quaint with a romantic personality. Almost all the wine to take home was affordable and loved that it was organic and extremely low in sulfites. The only reason why I gave the tour a 4/5 was because of the meal that was served. The gazpacho was actually one of the better ones I tried while in Spain. The chicken with asparagus was underwhelming as well as the cake that was served. Although we enjoyed our time I think I would have opted just for the tapas. The group we went with was a fun bunch and everyone got along well. I think there’s something for everyone on this tour and I would highly recommend this to a friend if they were visiting Spain.

A breathtaking experience
I would rate my experience a 10. Our tour guide Javi was polite, energetic, very knowledgable and willing to answer any questions. He did a fantastic job providing clear instructions to keep us on time, and provided us with many options for our free time and exploring at the monestarry. We chose the meal option and the food at the winery was delicious. Javi's knowledge of the family and legacy of the Oller de Mas winery truly showed his expertise. I have to commend Javi for his professionaliam while dealing with two truly RUDE and unreasonable members of our tour group. Despite their constant demands Javi still managed to make the rest of us in the 20 person group feel taken care of and happy. If I could rate him a 20 out of 10, I would. Truly enjoyed the experience and the other guides with castle experience were friendly and helpful even to those of us not assigned to their group.

The wonders of Montserrat and a delightful family run winery winetasting.
I chose the full day Montserrat and winetasting experience as it gives you a lot more time at the monastery to explore all the amazing features. Our tour guide was Violetta. She was very knowledgeable, very sweet and charming and also had playful sense of humor. Her warmth and kindness won us all over and we were all very comfortable and enjoyed ourselves during the entire experience. The tour starts with an extended period of time in Montserrat and the monastery that is there. Violeta took us into the monastery courtyard and explained the history of the monastery including information about the monks and the boys who come there to be in the choir. Unfortunately the day we were there was the one day that the choir did not sing. But hearing the church bells ringing throughout the complex was amazing! And the tour inside the church was wonderful. after that Violetta let us continue exploring the monastery complex on our own for 2 1/2 hours and they were many wonderful things to see. At 1:30 we all met and got on the bus and headed for the thousand year old family run winery outside of Manresa. We were served a delicious three course lunch and got to try some of the wines. Then Violeta let us into the tasting room and we got to try a white wine and two red wines. They were all quite good. Violeta also explained that the winery and castle, which was built 1000 years ago by the original famly patriarch, Have been continuously run by the same family for over 26 generations. Pretty cool! At the end of the wine tasting there was time to purchase wines and also to enjoy another glass of wine in the courtyard before we departed back to Barcelona . Highly recommend!

Great tour with the best GUIDE

We visited Barcelona for 10 days taking part in 1 or 2 guided tours per day. Hands down Nerea Romero Devesa was the best tour guide we had the pleasure to meet.
Montserrat & Wine tour was great! Nerea's knowledge of the region's history and understanding of wines from the winery visited was a delight. Her presentation with infusion of her own brand of humour moved the rating of this activity from 8 to 10 out of 10.

Day trip to Montserrat and local vineyard
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the day trip to Montserrat. We booked the tour with the cogwheel train option, full lunch, and wine tasting.

Anays and Pol led our tour in the morning. Pol provided a great introduction on the bus ride to the Montserrat cogwheel train station. The cogwheel train was a scenic way to go up the mountain. We spent most of the day with Anays. She was very knowledgeable about Montserrat, and did a great job leading us through the Montserrat complex. She was very helpful to answer questions, too. Our tour had one hour of free time to explore the area on our own afterwards. If you want to do more hiking around the mountain, you might prefer the option that has 2 hours of free time to explore.

Anays also did a great tour of the Oller del Mas vineyard. The lunch and wine were good. She was especially knowledgeable about the interesting wines we tasted after the tour. The tasting was very fun, and her insight about wines enhanced the experience. The vineyard was very scenic as well, with views of Montserrat in the background.

A great way to see Monserrat and learn about the region’s wines.
This is a great way to get to Monserrat if you have one day to do it. The company offers a variety of different tours; we ended up on this one purely because of availability. Gus, our tour guide, was both knowledgeable and entertaining, and we have nothing but positive feedback for him. His breadth of knowledge, both of Monserrat and of the region and the region’s wines, is impressive. We typically do things on our own, but when you’re in a city, without a car (or a desire to drive in that city), tours like this are often the best way to see and learn about a place. We highly recommend this option when in Barcelona.

Anays and Ursula were our favorites! They were both well versed and very knowledgeable, not only when it came to the montserrat or winery, but they were able to confidently share tidbits of history as we traveled through different regions on the air conditioned tour bus as well. Anays even opted to throw in some much needed humor after a long day, not Ellen Degeneres funny, but nevertheless it kept a light mood throughout the tour. Ursula has a clear passion for wine and it’s development over the years; She was quite the sommelier when it came to visiting the vineyard and made the tapas & wine tasting worth every penny :)
