Overview
See Neuschwanstein Castle on a relaxed day trip by train from Munich. After traveling with a guide for an easy journey, choose to explore the castle on a tour or take a hike to view the fairy-tale fortress from nearby foothills. It’s a customizable experience, perfect for families or friends who might want different things out of their Neuschwanstein visit.
What to Expect
Head to Munich’s central station to meet your guide and board your train to Hohenschwangau, the pretty Bavarian village near Neuschwanstein Castle.

On the journey, hear stories about the castles of Bavaria, mad King Ludwig, and the swan knight Lohengrin, a legend linked to the region. When you arrive in Hohenschwangau, head to nearby Marienbrücke for impressive views of the fortress that provided inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle.

Opt to visit Neuschwanstein itself and marvel at its ornate interiors on a tour, or hike in the neighboring foothills, soaking up sweeping castle vistas as you go. Note that entrance fees are payable at your own expense.

After the tour or hike, return to Munich by train with your guide.

I did the day trip to Neuschwanstein in late September. It was a big group, no doubt because of Oktoberfest, judging by the many people I overhead chatting about their boozy fun the day/night before! Sarah was an amazing tour leader, educating and entertaining us...More

When we took the bus tour, the tour guide went and got tickets for us so we didn’t worry about it. We arrived around lunch and then our tour was around 2:30. The tour guide talked extensively about the castle compared to the... More

I think that the tour companies companies buy them on the day, so they may not be available. Email them directly. You don't need to go into the castle to enjoy the spectacle, after all the interior is reproduction built on... More
